1.101.1
पर मन्दिने पितुमदर्चता वचो यः कर्ष्णगर्भा निरहन्न्र्जिश्वना |
pra mandine pitumadarcatā vaco yaḥ kṛṣṇagharbhā nirahannṛjiśvanā |
1. SING, with oblation, praise to him who maketh glad, who with Ṛjiśvan drove the dusky brood away.
1.101.2
अवस्यवो वर्षणं वज्रदक्षिणं मरुत्वन्तं सख्याय हवामहे ||
avasyavo vṛṣaṇaṃ vajradakṣiṇaṃ marutvantaṃ sakhyāya havāmahe ||
Fain for help, him the strong whose right hand wields the bolt, him girt by Maruts we invoke to be our Friend.
1.101.3
यो वयंसं जाह्र्षाणेन मन्युना यः शम्बरं यो अहन पिप्रुमव्रतम |
yo vyaṃsaṃ jāhṛṣāṇena manyunā yaḥ śambaraṃ yo ahan piprumavratam |
2 Indra, who with triumphant wrath smote Vyaṁsa down, and Śambara, and Pipru the unrighteous one;
1.101.4
इन्द्रो यः शुष्णमशुषं नयाव्र्णं म. .. ||
indro yaḥ śuṣṇamaśuṣaṃ nyāvṛṇaṃ ma. .. ||
Who extirpated Śuṣṇa the insatiate,—him girt by Maruts we invoke to be our Friend.
1.101.5
यस्य दयावाप्र्थिवी पौंस्यं महद यस्य वरते वरुणो यस्य सूर्यः |
yasya dyāvāpṛthivī pauṃsyaṃ mahad yasya vrate varuṇo yasya sūryaḥ |
3 He whose great work of manly might is heaven and earth, and Varuṇa and Sūrya keep his holy law;
1.101.6
यस्येन्द्रस्य सिन्धवः सश्चति वरतं म... ||
yasyendrasya sindhavaḥ saścati vrataṃ ma... ||
Indra, whose law the rivers follow as they flow,—him girt by Maruts we invoke to be our Friend.
1.101.7
यो अश्वानां यो गवां गोपतिर्वशी य आरितः कर्मणि कर्मणि सथिरः |
yo aśvānāṃ yo ghavāṃ ghopatirvaśī ya āritaḥ karmaṇi karmaṇi sthiraḥ |
4 He who is Lord and Master of the steeds and kine, honoured—the firm and sure—at every holy act;
1.101.8
वीळोश्चिदिन्द्रो यो असुन्वतो वधो म... ||
vīḷościdindro yo asunvato vadho ma... ||
Stayer even of the strong who pours no offering out,—him girt by Maruts we invoke to be our Friend.
1.101.9
यो विश्वस्य जगतः पराणतस पतिर्यो बरह्मणे परथमो गा अविन्दत |
yo viśvasya jaghataḥ prāṇatas patiryo brahmaṇe prathamo ghā avindat |
5 He who is Lord of all the world that moves and breathes, who for the Brahman first before all found the Cows;
1.101.10
इन्द्रो यो दस्यून्रधरानवातिरन म... ||
indro yo dasyūnradharānavātiran ma... ||
Indra who cast the Dasyus down beneath his feet,—him girt by Maruts we invoke to be our Friend.
1.101.11
यः शूरेभिर्हव्यो यश्च भीरुभिर्यो धावद्भिर्हूयते यश्च जिग्युभिः |
yaḥ śūrebhirhavyo yaśca bhīrubhiryo dhāvadbhirhūyate yaśca jighyubhiḥ |
6 Whom cowards must invoke and valiant men of war, invoked by those who conquer and by those who flee;
1.101.12
इन्द्रं यं विश्वा भुवनाभि सन्दधुर्म... ||
indraṃ yaṃ viśvā bhuvanābhi sandadhurma... ||
Indra, to whom all beings turn their constant thought,—him girt by Maruts we invoke to be our Friend.
1.101.13
रुद्राणामेति परदिशा विचक्षणो रुद्रेभिर्योषा तनुते पर्थु जरयः |
rudrāṇāmeti pradiśā vicakṣaṇo rudrebhiryoṣā tanute pṛthu jrayaḥ |
7 Refulgent in the Rudras’ region he proceeds, and with the Rudras through the wide space speeds the Dame.
1.101.14
इन्द्रं मनीषा अभ्यर्चति शरुतं म... ||
indraṃ manīṣā abhyarcati śrutaṃ ma... ||
The hymn of praise extols Indra the far-renowned: him girt by Maruts we invoke to be our Friend.
1.101.15
यद वा मरुत्वः परमे सधस्थे यद वावमे वर्जने मादयासे |
yad vā marutvaḥ parame sadhasthe yad vāvame vṛjane mādayāse |
8 O girt by Maruts, whether thou delight thee in loftiest gathering-place or lowly dwelling,
1.101.16
अत आ याह्यध्वरं नो अछा तवाया हविश्चक्र्मा सत्यराधः ||
ata ā yāhyadhvaraṃ no achā tvāyā haviścakṛmā satyarādhaḥ ||
Come thence unto our rite, true boon-bestower: through love of thee have we prepared oblations.
1.101.17
तवायेन्द्र सोमं सुषुमा सुदक्ष तवाया हविश्चक्र्मा बरह्मवाहः |
tvāyendra somaṃ suṣumā sudakṣa tvāyā haviścakṛmā brahmavāhaḥ |
9 We, fain for thee, strong Indra, have pressed Soma, and, O thou sought with prayer, have made oblations.
1.101.18
अधा नियुत्वः सगणो मरुद्भिरस्मिन यज्ञे बर्हिषिमादयस्व ||
adhā niyutvaḥ saghaṇo marudbhirasmin yajñe barhiṣimādayasva ||
Now at this sacrifice, with all thy Maruts, on sacred grass, O team-borne God, rejoice thee.
1.101.19
मादयस्व हरिभिर्ये त इन्द्र वि षयस्व शिप्रे वि सर्जस्व धेने |
mādayasva haribhirye ta indra vi ṣyasva śipre vi sṛjasva dhene |
10 Rejoice thee with thine own Bay Steeds, O Indra, unclose thy jaws and let thy lips be open.
1.101.20
आ तवा सुशिप्र हरयो वहन्तूशन हव्यानि परति नो जुषस्व ||
ā tvā suśipra harayo vahantūśan havyāni prati no juṣasva ||
Thou with the fair cheek, let thy Bay Steeds bring thee: gracious to us, he pleased with our oblation.
1.101.21
मरुत्स्तोत्रस्य वर्जनस्य गोपा वयमिन्द्रेण सनुयाम वाजम |
marutstotrasya vṛjanasya ghopā vayamindreṇa sanuyāma vājam |
11 Guards of the camp whose praisers are the Maruts, may we through Indra, get ourselves the booty.
1.101.22
तन नो ... ||
tan no ... ||
This prayer of ours may Varuṇa grant, and Mitra, and Aditi and Sindhu, Earth and Heaven.
