1.115.1
चित्रं देवानामुदगादनीकं चक्षुर्मित्रस्य वरुणस्याग्नेः |
citraṃ devānāmudaghādanīkaṃ cakṣurmitrasya varuṇasyāghneḥ |
1. THE brilliant presence of the Gods hath risen, the eye of Mitra, Varuṇa and Agni.
1.115.2
आप्रा दयावाप्र्थिवी अन्तरिक्षं सूर्य आत्मा जगतस्तस्थुषश्च ||
āprā dyāvāpṛthivī antarikṣaṃ sūrya ātmā jaghatastasthuṣaśca ||
The soul of all that moveth not or moveth, the Sun hath filled the air and earth and heaven.
1.115.3
सूर्यो देवीमुषसं रोचमानां मर्यो न योषामभ्येति पश्चात |
sūryo devīmuṣasaṃ rocamānāṃ maryo na yoṣāmabhyeti paścāt |
2 Like as a young man followeth a maiden, so doth the Sun the Dawn, refulgent Goddess:
1.115.4
यत्रा नरो देवयन्तो युगानि वितन्वते परति भद्राय भद्रम ||
yatrā naro devayanto yughāni vitanvate prati bhadrāya bhadram ||
Where pious men extend their generations, before the Auspicious One for happy fortune.
1.115.5
भद्रा अश्वा हरितः सूर्यस्य चित्रा एतग्वा अनुमाद्यासः |
bhadrā aśvā haritaḥ sūryasya citrā etaghvā anumādyāsaḥ |
3 Auspicious are the Sun's Bay-coloured Horses, bright, changing hues, meet for our shouts of triumph.
1.115.6
नमस्यन्तो दिव आ पर्ष्ठमस्थुः परि दयावाप्र्थिवी यन्ति सद्यः ||
namasyanto diva ā pṛṣṭhamasthuḥ pari dyāvāpṛthivī yanti sadyaḥ ||
Bearing our prayers, the sky's ridge have they mounted, and in a moment speed round earth and heaven.
1.115.7
तत सूर्यस्य देवत्वं तन महित्वं मध्या कर्तोर्विततं सं जभार |
tat sūryasya devatvaṃ tan mahitvaṃ madhyā kartorvitataṃ saṃ jabhāra |
4 This is the Godhead, this might of Sūrya: he hath withdrawn what spread o’er work unfinished.
1.115.8
यदेदयुक्त हरितः सधस्थादाद रात्री वासस्तनुते सिमस्मै ||
yadedayukta haritaḥ sadhasthādād rātrī vāsastanute simasmai ||
When he hath loosed his Horses from their station, straight over all Night spreadeth out her garment.
1.115.9
तन मित्रस्य वरुणस्याभिचक्षे सूर्यो रूपं कर्णुते दयोरुपस्थे |
tan mitrasya varuṇasyābhicakṣe sūryo rūpaṃ kṛṇute dyorupasthe |
5 In the sky's lap the Sun this form assumeth that Varuṇa and Mitra may behold it.
1.115.10
अनन्तमन्यद रुशदस्य पाजः कर्ष्णमन्यद धरितः सं भरन्ति ||
anantamanyad ruśadasya pājaḥ kṛṣṇamanyad dharitaḥ saṃ bharanti ||
His Bay Steeds well maintain his power eternal, at one time bright and darksome at another.
1.115.11
अद्या देवा उदिता सूर्यस्य निरंहसः पिप्र्ता नरवद्यात |
adyā devā uditā sūryasya niraṃhasaḥ pipṛtā naravadyāt |
6 This day, O Gods, while Sūrya is ascending, deliver us from trouble and dishonour.
1.115.12

This prayer of ours may Varuṇa grant, and Mitra, and Aditi and Sindhu, Earth and Heaven.
