1.169.1
महश्चित तवमिन्द्र यत एतान महश्चिदसि तयजसो वरूता |
mahaścit tvamindra yata etān mahaścidasi tyajaso varūtā |
1. As, Indra, from great treason thou protectest, yea, from great treachery these who approach us,
1.169.2
स नो वेधो मरुतां चिकित्वान सुम्ना वनुष्व तव हि परेष्ठा ||
sa no vedho marutāṃ cikitvān sumnā vanuṣva tava hi preṣṭhā ||
So, marking well, Controller of the Maruts grant us their blessings, for they are thy dearest.
1.169.3
अयुज्रन त इन्द्र विश्वक्र्ष्टीर्विदानासो निष्षिधो मर्त्यत्रा |
ayujran ta indra viśvakṛṣṭīrvidānāso niṣṣidho martyatrā |
2 The various doings of all mortal people by thee are ordered, in thy wisdom, Indra.
1.169.4
मरुतां पर्त्सुतिर्हासमाना सवर्मीळ्हस्य परधनस्य सातौ ||
marutāṃ pṛtsutirhāsamānā svarmīḷhasya pradhanasya sātau ||
The host of Maruts goeth forth exulting to win the light-bestowing spoil of battle.
1.169.5
अम्यक सा त इन्द्र रष्टिरस्मे सनेम्यभ्वं मरुतो जुनन्ति |
amyak sā ta indra ṛṣṭirasme sanemyabhvaṃ maruto junanti |
3 That spear of thine sat firm for us, O Indra: the Maruts set their whole dread power in motion.
1.169.6
अग्निश्चिद धि षमातसे शुशुक्वानापो न दवीपं दधतिप्रयांसि ||
aghniścid dhi ṣmātase śuśukvānāpo na dvīpaṃ dadhatiprayāṃsi ||
E’en Agni shines resplendent in the brush-wood: the viands hold him as floods hold an island.
1.169.7
तवं तू न इन्द्र तं रयिं दा ओजिष्ठया दक्षिणयेव रातिम |
tvaṃ tū na indra taṃ rayiṃ dā ojiṣṭhayā dakṣiṇayeva rātim |
4 Vouchsafe us now that opulence, O Indra, as guerdon won by mightiest donation.
1.169.8
सतुतश्च यास्ते चकनन्त वायो सतनं न मध्वःपीपयन्त वाजैः ||
stutaśca yāste cakananta vāyo stanaṃ na madhvaḥpīpayanta vājaiḥ ||
May hymns that please thee cause the breast of Vāyu to swell as with the mead's refreshing sweetness.
1.169.9
तवे राय इन्द्र तोशतमाः परणेतारः कस्य चिद रतायोः |
tve rāya indra tośatamāḥ praṇetāraḥ kasya cid ṛtāyoḥ |
5 With thee, O Indra, are most bounteous riches that further every one who lives uprightly.
1.169.10
ते षु णो मरुतो मर्ळयन्तु ये समा पुरा गातूयन्तीव देवाः ||
te ṣu ṇo maruto mṛḷayantu ye smā purā ghātūyantīva devāḥ ||
Now may these Maruts show us loving-kindness, Gods who of old were ever prompt to help us.
1.169.11
परति पर याहीन्द्र मीळ्हुषो नॄन महः पार्थिवे सदने यतस्व |
prati pra yāhīndra mīḷhuṣo nṝn mahaḥ pārthive sadane yatasva |
6 Bring forth the Men who rain down boons, O Indra: exert thee in the great terrestrial region;
1.169.12
अध यदेषां पर्थुबुध्नास एतास्तीर्थे नार्यः पौंस्यानि तस्थुः ||
adha yadeṣāṃ pṛthubudhnāsa etāstīrthe nāryaḥ pauṃsyāni tasthuḥ ||
For their broad-chested speckled deer are standing like a King's armies on the field of battle.
1.169.13
परति घोराणामेतानामयासां मरुतां शर्ण्व आयतामुपब्दिः |
prati ghorāṇāmetānāmayāsāṃ marutāṃ śṛṇva āyatāmupabdiḥ |
7 Heard is the roar of the advancing Maruts, terrific, glittering, and swiftly moving,
1.169.14
ये मर्त्यं पर्तनायन्तमूमैर्र्णावानं न पतयन्त सर्गैः ||
ye martyaṃ pṛtanāyantamūmairṛṇāvānaṃ na patayanta sarghaiḥ ||
Who with their rush o’erthrow as ’twere a sinner the mortal who would fight with those who love him
1.169.15
तवं मानेभ्य इन्द्र विश्वजन्या रदा मरुद्भिः शुरुधो गोग्राः |
tvaṃ mānebhya indra viśvajanyā radā marudbhiḥ śurudho ghoaghrāḥ |
8 Give to the Mānas, Indra with Maruts, gifts universal, gifts of cattle foremost.
1.169.16
सतवानेभि सतवसे देव देवैर्विद्यामेषं वर्जनं जीरदानुम ||
stavānebhi stavase deva devairvidyāmeṣaṃ vṛjanaṃ jīradānum ||
Thou, God, art praised with Gods who must be lauded. May we find strengthening food in full abundance.
