1.174.1
तवं राजेन्द्र ये च देवा रक्षा नॄन पाह्यसुर तवमस्मान |
tvaṃ rājendra ye ca devā rakṣā nṝn pāhyasura tvamasmān |
1. THOU art the King of all the Gods, O Indra: protect the men, O Asura, preserve us.
1.174.2
तवं सत्पतिर्मघवा नस्तरुत्रस्त्वं सत्यो वसवानः सहोदाः ||
tvaṃ satpatirmaghavā nastarutrastvaṃ satyo vasavānaḥ sahodāḥ ||
Thou Lord of Heroes, Maghavan, our saver, art faithful, very rich, the victory-giver.
1.174.3
दनो विश इन्द्र मर्ध्रवाचः सप्त यत पुरः शर्म शारदीर्दर्त |
dano viśa indra mṛdhravācaḥ sapta yat puraḥ śarma śāradīrdart |
2 Indra, thou humbledst tribes that spake with insult by breaking down seven autumn forts, their refuge.
1.174.4
रणोरपो अनवद्यार्णा यूने वर्त्रं पुरुकुत्साय रन्धीः ||
ṛṇorapo anavadyārṇā yūne vṛtraṃ purukutsāya randhīḥ ||
Thou stirredst, Blameless! billowy floods, and gavest his foe a prey to youthful Purukutsa.
1.174.5
अजा वर्त इन्द्र शूरपत्नीर्द्यां च येभिः पुरुहूत नूनम |
ajā vṛta indra śūrapatnīrdyāṃ ca yebhiḥ puruhūta nūnam |
3 With whom thou drivest troops whose lords are heroes, and bringest daylight now, much worshipped Indra,
1.174.6
रक्षो अग्निमशुषं तूर्वयाणं सिंहो न दमे अपांसि वस्तोः ||
rakṣo aghnimaśuṣaṃ tūrvayāṇaṃ siṃho na dame apāṃsi vastoḥ ||
With them guard lion-like wasting active Agni to dwell in our tilled fields and in our homestead.
1.174.7
शेषन नु त इन्द्र सस्मिन योनौ परशस्तये पवीरवस्य मह्ना |
śeṣan nu ta indra sasmin yonau praśastaye pavīravasya mahnā |
4 They through the greatness of thy spear, O Indra, shall, to thy praise, rest in this earthly station.
1.174.8
सर्जदर्णांस्यव यद युधा गास्तिष्ठद धरी धर्षता मर्ष्ट वाजान ||
sṛjadarṇāṃsyava yad yudhā ghāstiṣṭhad dharī dhṛṣatā mṛṣṭa vājān ||
To loose the floods, to seek, for kine, the battle, his Bays he mounted boldly seized the booty.
1.174.9
वह कुत्समिन्द्र यस्मिञ्चाकन सयूमन्यू रज्रा वातस्याश्वा |
vaha kutsamindra yasmiñcākan syūmanyū ṛjrā vātasyāśvā |
5 Indra, bear Kutsa, him in whom thou joyest: the dark-red horses of the Wind are docile.
1.174.10
पर सूरश्चक्रं वर्हतादभीके.अभि सप्र्धो यासिषद्वज्रबाहुः ||
pra sūraścakraṃ vṛhatādabhīke.abhi spṛdho yāsiṣadvajrabāhuḥ ||
Let the Sun roll his chariot wheel anear us, and let the Thunderer go to meet the foemen.
1.174.11
जघन्वानिन्द्र मित्रेरूञ्चोदप्रव्र्द्धो हरिवो अदाशून |
jaghanvānindra mitrerūñcodapravṛddho harivo adāśūn |
6 Thou Indra, Lord of Bays, made strong by impulse, hast slain the vexers of thy friends, who give not.
1.174.12
परये पश्यन्नर्यमणं सचायोस्त्वया शूर्ता वहमाना अपत्यम ||
praye paśyannaryamaṇaṃ sacāyostvayā śūrtā vahamānā apatyam ||
They who beheld the Friend beside the living were cast aside by thee as they rode onward.
1.174.13
रपत कविरिन्द्रार्कसातौ कषां दासायोपबर्हणीं कः |
rapat kavirindrārkasātau kṣāṃ dāsāyopabarhaṇīṃ kaḥ |
7 Indra, the bard sang forth in inspiration: thou madest earth a covering for the Dāsa.
1.174.14
करत तिस्रो मघवा दानुचित्रा नि दुर्योणे कुयवाचं मर्धिश्रेत ||
karat tisro maghavā dānucitrā ni duryoṇe kuyavācaṃ mṛdhiśret ||
Maghavan made the three that gleam with moisture, and to his home brought Kuyavāc to slay him.
1.174.15
सना ता त इन्द्र नव्या आगुः सहो नभो.अविरणाय पूर्वीः |
sanā tā ta indra navyā āghuḥ saho nabho.aviraṇāya pūrvīḥ |
8 These thine old deeds new bards have sung, O Indra. Thou conqueredst, boundest many tribes for ever.
1.174.16
भिनत पुरो न भिदो अदेवीर्ननमो वधरदेवस्य पीयोः ||
bhinat puro na bhido adevīrnanamo vadharadevasya pīyoḥ ||
Like castles thou hast crushed the godless races, and bowed the godless scorner's deadly weapon.
1.174.17
तवं धुनिरिन्द्र धुनिमतीर्र्णोरपः सीरा न सरवन्तीः |
tvaṃ dhunirindra dhunimatīrṛṇorapaḥ sīrā na sravantīḥ |
9 A Stormer thou hast made the stormy waters flow down, O Indra, like the running rivers.
1.174.18
पर यत समुद्रमति शूर पर्षि पारया तुर्वशं यदुं सवस्ति ||
pra yat samudramati śūra parṣi pārayā turvaśaṃ yaduṃ svasti ||
When o’er the flood thou broughtest them, O Hero, thou keptest Turvaśa and Yadu safely.
1.174.19
तवमस्माकमिन्द्र विश्वध सय अव्र्कतमो नरां नर्पाता |
tvamasmākamindra viśvadha sya avṛkatamo narāṃ nṛpātā |
10 Indra, mayst thou be ours in all occasions, protector of the men, most gentle-hearted,
1.174.20
स नो विश्वासां सप्र्धां सहोदा वि... ||
sa no viśvāsāṃ spṛdhāṃ sahodā vi... ||
Giving us victory over all our rivals. May we find strengthening food in full abundance.
