यत्र गरावा पर्थुबुध्न ऊर्ध्वो भवति सोतवे |
yatra ghrāvā pṛthubudhna ūrdhvo bhavati sotave |
1 THERE where the broad-based stone raised on high to press the juices out,

उलूखलसुतानामवेद विन्द्र जल्गुलः ||

यत्र दवाविव जघनाधिषवण्या कर्ता |
yatra dvāviva jaghanādhiṣavaṇyā kṛtā |
2 Where, like broad hips, to hold the juice the platters of the press are laid,

यच्चिद धि तवं गर्हेग्र्ह उलूखलक युज्यसे |
yaccid dhi tvaṃ ghṛheghṛha ulūkhalaka yujyase |
5 If of a truth in every house, O Mortar thou art set for work,

इह दयुमत्तमं वद यजतामिव दुन्दुभिः ||
iha dyumattamaṃ vada yajatāmiva dundubhiḥ ||
Here give thou forth thy clearest sound, loud as the drum of conquerors.

उत सम ते वनस्पते वातो वि वात्यग्रमित |
uta sma te vanaspate vāto vi vātyaghramit |
6 O Sovran of the Forest, as the wind blows soft in front of thee,

अथो इन्द्राय पातवे सुनु सोममुलूखल ||
atho indrāya pātave sunu somamulūkhala ||
Mortar, for Indra press thou forth the Soma juice that he may drink.
1.28.13
आयजी वाजसातमा ता हयुच्चा विजर्भ्र्तः |
āyajī vājasātamā tā hyuccā vijarbhṛtaḥ |
7 Best strength-givers, ye stretch wide jaws, O Sacrificial Implements,

हरी इवान्धांसि बप्सता ||
harī ivāndhāṃsi bapsatā ||
Like two bay horses champing herbs.
1.28.15
ता नो अद्य वनस्पती रष्वाव रष्वेभिः सोत्र्भिः |
tā no adya vanaspatī ṛṣvāv ṛṣvebhiḥ sotṛbhiḥ |
8 Ye Sovrans of the Forest, both swift, with swift pressers press to-day

इन्द्राय मधुमत सुतम ||
indrāya madhumat sutam ||
Sweet Soma juice for Indra's drink.
1.28.17
उच्छिष्टं चम्वोर्भर सोमं पवित्र आ सर्ज |
ucchiṣṭaṃ camvorbhara somaṃ pavitra ā sṛja |
9 Take up in beakers what remains: the Soma on the filter pour,

नि धेहि गोरधि तवचि ||
ni dhehi ghoradhi tvaci ||
and on the ox-hide set the dregs.
