1.33.1
एतायामोप गव्यन्त इन्द्रमस्माकं सु परमतिं वाव्र्धाति |
etāyāmopa ghavyanta indramasmākaṃ su pramatiṃ vāvṛdhāti |
1 Come, fain for booty let us seek to Indra: yet more shall he increase his care that guides us.
1.33.2
अनाम्र्णः कुविदादस्य रायो गवां केतं परमावर्जते नः ||
anāmṛṇaḥ kuvidādasya rāyo ghavāṃ ketaṃ paramāvarjate naḥ ||
Will not the Indestructible endow us with perfect knowledge of this wealth, of cattle?
1.33.3
उपेदहं धनदामप्रतीतं जुष्टं न शयेनो वसतिम्पतामि |
upedahaṃ dhanadāmapratītaṃ juṣṭaṃ na śyeno vasatimpatāmi |
2 I fly to him invisible Wealth-giver as flies the falcon to his cherished eyrie,
1.33.4
इन्द्रं नमस्यन्नुपमेभिरर्कैर्यः सतोत्र्भ्यो हव्यो अस्ति यामन ||
indraṃ namasyannupamebhirarkairyaḥ stotṛbhyo havyo asti yāman ||
With fairest hymns of praise adoring Indra, whom those who laud him must invoke in battle.
1.33.5
नि सर्वसेन इषुधीन्रसक्त समर्यो गा अजति यस्य वष्टि |
ni sarvasena iṣudhīnrasakta samaryo ghā ajati yasya vaṣṭi |
3 Mid all his host, he bindeth on the quiver: he driveth cattle from what foe he pleaseth:
1.33.6
चोष्कूयमाण इन्द्र भूरि वामं मा पणिर्भूरस्मदधि परव्र्द्ध ||
coṣkūyamāṇa indra bhūri vāmaṃ mā paṇirbhūrasmadadhi pravṛddha ||
Gathering up great store of riches, Indra. be thou no trafficker with us, most mighty.
1.33.7
वधीर्हि दस्युं धनिनं घनेननेकश्चरन्नुपशाकेभिरिन्द्र |
vadhīrhi dasyuṃ dhaninaṃ ghanenanekaścarannupaśākebhirindra |
4 Thou slewest with thy bolt the wealthy Dasyu, alone, yet going with thy helpers, Indra!
1.33.8
धनोरधि विषुणक ते वयायन्नयज्वनः सनकाः परेतिमीयुः ||
dhanoradhi viṣuṇak te vyāyannayajvanaḥ sanakāḥ pretimīyuḥ ||
Far from the floor of heaven in all directions, the ancient riteless ones fled to destruction.
1.33.9
परा चिच्छीर्षा वव्र्जुस्त इन्द्रायज्वानो यज्वभिः सपर्धमानाः |
parā cicchīrṣā vavṛjusta indrāyajvāno yajvabhiḥ spardhamānāḥ |
5 Fighting with pious worshippers, the riteless turned and fled, Indra! with averted faces.
1.33.10
पर यद दिवो हरिव सथातरुग्र निरव्रतानधमोरोदस्योः ||
pra yad divo hariva sthātarughra niravratānadhamorodasyoḥ ||
When thou, fierce Lord of the Bay Steeds, the Stayer, blewest from earth and heaven and sky the godless.
1.33.11
अयुयुत्सन्ननवद्यस्य सेनामयातयन्त कषितयो नवग्वाः |
ayuyutsannanavadyasya senāmayātayanta kṣitayo navaghvāḥ |
6 They met in fight the army of the blameless: then the Navagvas put forth all their power.
1.33.12
वर्षायुधो न वध्रयो निरष्टाः परवद्भिरिन्द्राच्चितयन्त आयन ||
vṛṣāyudho na vadhrayo niraṣṭāḥ pravadbhirindrāccitayanta āyan ||
They, like emasculates with men contending, fled, conscious, by steep paths from Indra, scattered.
1.33.13
तवमेतान रुदतो जक्षतश्चायोधयो रजस इन्द्र पारे |
tvametān rudato jakṣataścāyodhayo rajasa indra pāre |
7 Whether they weep or laugh, thou hast o’erthrown them, O Indra, on the sky's extremest limit.
1.33.14
अवादहो दिव आ दस्युमुच्चा पर सुन्वतः सतुवतः शंसमावः ||
avādaho diva ā dasyumuccā pra sunvataḥ stuvataḥ śaṃsamāvaḥ ||
The Dasyu thou hast burned from heaven, and welcomed the prayer of him who pours the juice and lauds thee.
1.33.15
चक्राणासः परीणहं पर्थिव्या हिरण्येन मणिना शुम्भमानाः |
cakrāṇāsaḥ parīṇahaṃ pṛthivyā hiraṇyena maṇinā śumbhamānāḥ |
8 Adorned with their array of gold and jewels, they o’er the earth a covering veil extended.
1.33.16
न हिन्वानासस्तितिरुस्त इन्द्रं परि सपशो अदधात सूर्येण ||
na hinvānāsastitirusta indraṃ pari spaśo adadhāt sūryeṇa ||
Although they hastened, they o’ercame not Indra: their spies he compassed with the Sun of morning.
1.33.17
परि यदिन्द्र रोदसी उभे अबुभोजीर्महिना विश्वतः सीम |
pari yadindra rodasī ubhe abubhojīrmahinā viśvataḥ sīm |
9 As thou enjoyest heaven and earth, O Indra, on every side surrounded with thy greatness,
1.33.18
अमन्यमानानभि मन्यमानैर्निर्ब्रह्मभिरधमो दस्युमिन्द्र ||
amanyamānānabhi manyamānairnirbrahmabhiradhamo dasyumindra ||
So thou with priests hast blown away the Dasyu, and those who worship not with those who worship.
1.33.19
न ये दिवः पर्थिव्या अन्तमापुर्न मायाभिर्धनदां पर्यभूवन |
na ye divaḥ pṛthivyā antamāpurna māyābhirdhanadāṃ paryabhūvan |
10 They who pervaded earth's extremest limit subdued not with their charms the Wealth-bestower:
1.33.20
युजं वज्रं वर्षभश्चक्र इन्द्रो निर्ज्योतिषा तमसो गा अदुक्षत ||
yujaṃ vajraṃ vṛṣabhaścakra indro nirjyotiṣā tamaso ghā adukṣat ||
Indra, the Bull, made his ally the thunder, and with its light milked cows from out the darkness.
1.33.21
अनु सवधामक्षरन्नापो अस्यावर्धत मध्य आ नाव्यानाम |
anu svadhāmakṣarannāpo asyāvardhata madhya ā nāvyānām |
11 The waters flowed according to their nature; he raid the navigable streams waxed mighty.
1.33.22
सध्रीचीनेन मनसा तमिन्द्र ओजिष्ठेन हन्मनाहन्नभि दयून ||
sadhrīcīnena manasā tamindra ojiṣṭhena hanmanāhannabhi dyūn ||
Then Indra, with his spirit concentrated, smote him for ever with his strongest weapon.
1.33.23
नयाविध्यदिलीबिशस्य दर्ल्हा वि शर्ङगिणमभिनच्छुष्णमिन्द्रः |
nyāvidhyadilībiśasya dṛlhā vi śṛṅghiṇamabhinacchuṣṇamindraḥ |
12 Indra broke through Ilībiśa's strong castles, and Śuṣṇa with his horn he cut to pieces:
1.33.24
यावत तरो मघवन यावदोजो वज्रेण शत्रुमवधीः पर्तन्युम ||
yāvat taro maghavan yāvadojo vajreṇa śatrumavadhīḥ pṛtanyum ||
Thou, Maghavan, for all his might and swiftness, slewest thy fighting foeman with thy thunder
1.33.25
अभि सिध्मो अजिगादस्य शत्रून वि तिग्मेन वर्षभेण पुरो.अभेत |
abhi sidhmo ajighādasya śatrūn vi tighmena vṛṣabheṇa puro.abhet |
13 Fierce on his enemies fell Indra's weapon: with. his sharp bull he rent their forts in pieces.
1.33.26
सं वज्रेणास्र्जद वर्त्रमिन्द्रः पर सवां मतिमतिरच्छाशदानः ||
saṃ vajreṇāsṛjad vṛtramindraḥ pra svāṃ matimatiracchāśadānaḥ ||
He with his thunderbolt dealt blows on Vṛtra; and conquered, executing all his purpose.
1.33.27
आवः कुत्सम इन्द्र यस्मि चाकन परावो युध्यन्तं वर्षभं दशद्युम |
āvaḥ kutsam indra yasmi cākan prāvo yudhyantaṃ vṛṣabhaṃ daśadyum |
14 Indra, thou helpest Kutsa whom thou lovedst, and guardedst brave Daśadyu when he battled,
1.33.28
शफच्युतो रेणुर नक्षत दयाम उच छवैत्रेयो नर्षाह्याय तस्थौ ||
śaphacyuto reṇur nakṣata dyām uc chvaitreyo nṛṣāhyāya tasthau ||
The dust of trampling horses rose to heaven, and Śvitrā's son stood up again for conquest.
1.33.29
आवः शमं वर्षभं तुग्र्यासु कषेत्रजेषे मघवञ्छ्वित्र्यं गाम |
āvaḥ śamaṃ vṛṣabhaṃ tughryāsu kṣetrajeṣe maghavañchvitryaṃ ghām |
15 Śvitrā's mild steer, O Maghavan thou helpest in combat for the land, mid Tugra's houses.
1.33.30
जयोक चिद अत्र तस्थिवांसो अक्रञ्छत्रूयताम अधरा वेदनाकः ||
jyok cid atra tasthivāṃso akrañchatrūyatām adharā vedanākaḥ ||
Long stood they there before the task was ended: thou wast the master of the foemen's treasure.
