1.62.1
पर मन्महे शवसानाय शूषमाङगूषं गिर्वणसे अङगिरस्वत |
pra manmahe śavasānāya śūṣamāṅghūṣaṃ ghirvaṇase aṅghirasvat |
1. LIKE Aṅgiras a gladdening laud we ponder to him who loveth song, exceeding mighty.
1.62.2
सुव्र्क्तिभिः सतुवत रग्मियायार्चामार्कं नरे विश्रुताय ||
suvṛktibhiḥ stuvata ṛghmiyāyārcāmārkaṃ nare viśrutāya ||
Let us sing glory to the far-famed Hero who must be praised with fair hymns by the singer.
1.62.3
पर वो महे महि नमो भरध्वमाङगूष्यं शवसानाय साम |
pra vo mahe mahi namo bharadhvamāṅghūṣyaṃ śavasānāya sāma |
2 Unto the great bring ye great adoration, a chant with praise to him exceeding mighty,
1.62.4
येना नः पूर्वे पितरः पदज्ञा अर्चन्तो अङगिरसो गा अविन्दन ||
yenā naḥ pūrve pitaraḥ padajñā arcanto aṅghiraso ghā avindan ||
Through whom our sires, Aṅgirases, singing praises and knowing well the places, found the cattle.
1.62.5
इन्द्रस्याङगिरसां चेष्टौ विदत सरमा तनयाय धासिम |
indrasyāṅghirasāṃ ceṣṭau vidat saramā tanayāya dhāsim |
3 When Indra and the Aṅgirases desired it, Saramā found provision for her offspring.
1.62.6
बर्हस्पतिर्भिनदद्रिं विदद गाः समुस्रियाभिर्वावशन्त नरः ||
bṛhaspatirbhinadadriṃ vidad ghāḥ samusriyābhirvāvaśanta naraḥ ||
Bṛhaspati cleft the mountain, found the cattle: the heroes shouted with the kine in triumph.
1.62.7
स सुष्टुभा स सतुभा सप्त विप्रैः सवरेणाद्रिं सवर्यो नवग्वैः |
sa suṣṭubhā sa stubhā sapta vipraiḥ svareṇādriṃ svaryo navaghvaiḥ |
4 Mid shout, loud shout, and roar, with the Navagvas, seven singers, hast thou, heavenly, rent the mountain;
1.62.8
सरण्युभिः फलिगमिन्द्र शक्र वलं रवेणदरयो दशग्वैः ||
saraṇyubhiḥ phalighamindra śakra valaṃ raveṇadarayo daśaghvaiḥ ||
Thou hast, with speeders, with Daśagvas, Indra, Śakra, with thunder rent obstructive Vala.
1.62.9
गर्णानो अङगिरोभिर्दस्म वि वरुषसा सूर्येण गोभिरन्धः |
ghṛṇāno aṅghirobhirdasma vi varuṣasā sūryeṇa ghobhirandhaḥ |
5 Praised by Aṅgirases, thou, foe-destroyer, hast, with the Dawn, Sun, rays, dispelled the darkness.
1.62.10
वि भूम्या अप्रथय इन्द्र सानु दिवो रज उपरमस्तभायः ||
vi bhūmyā aprathaya indra sānu divo raja uparamastabhāyaḥ ||
Thou Indra, hast spread out the earth's high ridges, and firmly fixed the region under heaven.
1.62.11
तदु परयक्षतममस्य कर्म दस्मस्य चारुतममस्ति दंसः |
tadu prayakṣatamamasya karma dasmasya cārutamamasti daṃsaḥ |
6 This is the deed most worthy of all honour, the fairest marvel of the Wonder-Worker,
1.62.12
उपह्वरे यदुपरा अपिन्वन मध्वर्णसो नद्यश्चतस्रः ||
upahvare yaduparā apinvan madhvarṇaso nadyaścatasraḥ ||
That, nigh where heaven bends down, he made four rivers flow full with waves that carry down sweet water.
1.62.13
दविता वि वव्रे सनजा सनीळे अयास्य सतवमानेभिरर्कैः |
dvitā vi vavre sanajā sanīḷe ayāsya stavamānebhirarkaiḥ |
7 Unwearied, won with lauding hymns, he parted of old the ancient Pair, united ever.
1.62.14
भगो न मेने परमे वयोमन्नधारयद रोदसी सुदंसाः ||
bhagho na mene parame vyomannadhārayad rodasī sudaṃsāḥ ||
In highest sky like Bhaga, he the doer of marvels set both Dames and earth and heaven.
1.62.15
सनाद दिवं परि भूमा विरूपे पुनर्भुवा युवती सवेभिरेवैः |
sanād divaṃ pari bhūmā virūpe punarbhuvā yuvatī svebhirevaiḥ |
8 Still born afresh, young Dames, each in her manner, unlike in hue, the Pair in alternation
1.62.16
कर्ष्णेभिरक्तोषा रुशद्भिर्वपुर्भिरा चरतो अन्यान्या ||
kṛṣṇebhiraktoṣā ruśadbhirvapurbhirā carato anyānyā ||
Round heaven and earth from ancient time have travelled, Night with her dark limbs, Dawn with limbs of splendour.
1.62.17
सनेमि सख्यं सवपस्यमानः सूनुर्दाधार शवसा सुदंसाः |
sanemi sakhyaṃ svapasyamānaḥ sūnurdādhāra śavasā sudaṃsāḥ |
9 Rich in good actions, skilled in operation, the Son with might maintains his perfect friendship.
1.62.18
आमासु चिद दधिषे पक्वमन्तः पयः कर्ष्णासु रुशद रोहिणीषु ||
āmāsu cid dadhiṣe pakvamantaḥ payaḥ kṛṣṇāsu ruśad rohiṇīṣu ||
Thou in the raw cows, black of hue or ruddy, storest the ripe milk glossy white in colour.
1.62.19
सनात सनीला अवनीरवाता वरता रक्षन्ते अम्र्ताः सहोभिः |
sanāt sanīlā avanīravātā vratā rakṣante amṛtāḥ sahobhiḥ |
10 Their paths, of old connected, rest uninjured; they with great might preserve the immortal statutes.
1.62.20
पुरू सहस्रा जनयो न पत्नीर्दुवस्यन्ति सवसारो अह्रयाणम ||
purū sahasrā janayo na patnīrduvasyanti svasāro ahrayāṇam ||
For many thousand holy works the Sisters wait on the haughty Lord like wives and matrons.
1.62.21
सनायुवो नमसा नव्यो अर्कैर्वसूयवो मतयो दस्म दद्रुः |
sanāyuvo namasā navyo arkairvasūyavo matayo dasma dadruḥ |
11 Thoughts ancient, seeking wealth, with adoration, with newest lauds have sped to thee, O Mighty.
1.62.22
पतिं न पत्नीरुशतीरुशन्तं सप्र्शन्ति तवा शवसावन्मनीषाः ||
patiṃ na patnīruśatīruśantaṃ spṛśanti tvā śavasāvanmanīṣāḥ ||
As yearning wives cleave to their yearning husband, so cleave our hymns to thee, O Lord most potent.
1.62.23
सनादेव तव रायो गभस्तौ न कषीयन्ते नोप दस्यन्ति दस्म |
sanādeva tava rāyo ghabhastau na kṣīyante nopa dasyanti dasma |
12 Strong God, the riches which thy hands have holden from days of old have perished not nor wasted.
1.62.24
दयुमानसि करतुमानिन्द्र धीरः शिक्षा शचीवस्तव नः शचीभिः ||
dyumānasi kratumānindra dhīraḥ śikṣā śacīvastava naḥ śacībhiḥ ||
Splendid art thou, O Indra, wise, unbending: strengthen us with might, O Lord of Power.
1.62.25
सनायते गोतम इन्द्र नव्यमतक्षद बरह्म हरियोजनाय |
sanāyate ghotama indra navyamatakṣad brahma hariyojanāya |
13 O mighty Indra, Gotama's son Nodhas hath fashioned this new prayer to thee Eternal,
1.62.26
सुनीथाय नः शवसान नोधाः परातर मक्षू धियावसुर जगम्यात||
sunīthāya naḥ śavasāna nodhāḥ prātar makṣū dhiyāvasur jaghamyāt||
Sure leader, yoker of the Tawny Coursers. May he, enriched with prayer, come soon and early.
