1.71.1
उप पर जिन्वन्नुशतीरुशन्तं पतिं न नित्यं जनयः सनीळाः |
upa pra jinvannuśatīruśantaṃ patiṃ na nityaṃ janayaḥ sanīḷāḥ |
1. LOVING the loving One, as wives their husband, the sisters of one home have urged him forward,
1.71.2
सवसारः शयावीमरुषीमजुष्रञ्चित्रमुछन्तीमुषसं न गावः ||
svasāraḥ śyāvīmaruṣīmajuṣrañcitramuchantīmuṣasaṃ na ghāvaḥ ||
Bright-coloured, even, as the cows love morning, dark, breaking forth to view, and redly beaming.
1.71.3
वीळु चिद दर्ळ्हा पितरो न उक्थैरद्रिं रुजन्नङगिरसो रवेण |
vīḷu cid dṛḷhā pitaro na ukthairadriṃ rujannaṅghiraso raveṇa |
2 Our sires with lauds burst e’en the firm-set fortress, yea, the Aṅgirases, with roar, the mountain.
1.71.4
चक्रुर्दिवो बर्हतो गातुमस्मे अहः सवर्विविदुः केतुमुस्राः ||
cakrurdivo bṛhato ghātumasme ahaḥ svarvividuḥ ketumusrāḥ ||
They made for us a way to reach high heaven, they found us day, light, day's sign, beams of morning.
1.71.5
दधन्न्र्तं धनयन्नस्य धीतिमादिदर्यो दिधिष्वो विभ्र्त्राः |
dadhannṛtaṃ dhanayannasya dhītimādidaryo didhiṣvo vibhṛtrāḥ |
3 They stablished order, made his service fruitful; then parting them among the longing faithful,
1.71.6
अत्र्ष्यन्तीरपसो यन्त्यछा देवाञ जन्म परयसा वर्धयन्तीः ||
atṛṣyantīrapaso yantyachā devāñ janma prayasā vardhayantīḥ ||
Not thirsting after aught, they come, most active, while with sweet food the race of Gods they strengthen.
1.71.7
मथीद यदीं विभ्र्तो मातरिश्वा गर्हे-गर्हे शयेतो जेन्यो भूत |
mathīd yadīṃ vibhṛto mātariśvā ghṛhe-ghṛhe śyeto jenyo bhūt |
4 Since Mātariśvan, far-diffused, hath stirred him, and he in every house grown bright and noble,
1.71.8
आदीं राज्ञे न सहीयसे सचा सन्ना दूत्यं भर्गवाणो विवाय ||
ādīṃ rājñe na sahīyase sacā sannā dūtyaṃ bhṛghavāṇo vivāya ||
He, Bhṛgu-like I hath gone as his companion, as on commission to a greater Sovran.
1.71.9
महे यत पित्र ईं रसं दिवे करव तसरत पर्शन्यश्चिकित्वान |
mahe yat pitra īṃ rasaṃ dive karava tsarat pṛśanyaścikitvān |
5 When man poured juice to Heaven, the mighty Father, he knew and freed himself from close embracement.
1.71.10
सर्जदस्ता धर्षता दिद्युमस्मै सवायां देवो दुहितरि तविषिं धात ||
sṛjadastā dhṛṣatā didyumasmai svāyāṃ devo duhitari tviṣiṃ dhāt ||
The archer boldly shot at him his arrow, and the God threw his splendour on his Daughter.
1.71.11
सव आ यस्तुभ्यं दम आ विभाति नमो वा दाशादुशतो अनु दयून |
sva ā yastubhyaṃ dama ā vibhāti namo vā dāśāduśato anu dyūn |
6 Whoso, hath flames for thee within his dwelling, or brings the worship which thou lovest daily,
1.71.12
वर्धो अग्ने वयो अस्य दविबर्हा यासद राया सरथं यं जुनासि ||
vardho aghne vayo asya dvibarhā yāsad rāyā sarathaṃ yaṃ junāsi ||
Do thou of double might increase his substance: may he whom thou incitest meet with riches.
1.71.13
अग्निं विश्वा अभि पर्क्षः सचन्ते समुद्रं न सरवतः सप्त यह्वीः |
aghniṃ viśvā abhi pṛkṣaḥ sacante samudraṃ na sravataḥ sapta yahvīḥ |
7 All sacrificial viands wait on Agni as the Seven mighty Rivers seek the ocean.
1.71.14
न जामिभिर्वि चिकिते वयो नो विदा देवेषु परमतिं चिकित्वान ||
na jāmibhirvi cikite vayo no vidā deveṣu pramatiṃ cikitvān ||
Not by our brethren was our food discovered: find with the Gods care for us, thou who knowest.
1.71.15
आ यदिषे नर्पतिं तेज आनट छुचि रेतो निषिक्तं दयौरभीके |
ā yadiṣe nṛpatiṃ teja ānaṭ chuci reto niṣiktaṃ dyaurabhīke |
8 When light hath filled the Lord of men for increase, straight from the heaven descends the limpid moisture.
1.71.16
अग्निः शर्धमनवद्यं युवानं सवाध्यं जनयत सूदयच्च ||
aghniḥ śardhamanavadyaṃ yuvānaṃ svādhyaṃ janayat sūdayacca ||
Agni hath brought to light and filled with spirit the youthful host blameless and well providing.
1.71.17
मनो न यो.अध्वनः सद्य एत्येकः सत्रा सूरो वस्व ईशे |
mano na yo.adhvanaḥ sadya etyekaḥ satrā sūro vasva īśe |
9 He who like thought goes swiftly on his journey, the Sun, alone is ever Lord of riches.
1.71.18
राजाना मित्रावरुणा सुपाणी गोषु परियमम्र्तं रक्षमाणा ||
rājānā mitrāvaruṇā supāṇī ghoṣu priyamamṛtaṃ rakṣamāṇā ||
The Kings with fair hands, Varuṇa and Mitra, protect the precious nectar in our cattle.
1.71.19
मा नो अग्ने सख्या पित्र्याणि पर मर्षिष्ठा अभि विदुष कविः सन |
mā no aghne sakhyā pitryāṇi pra marṣiṣṭhā abhi viduṣ kaviḥ san |
10 O Agni, break not our ancestral friendship, Sage as thou art, endowed with deepest knowledge.
1.71.20
नभो न रूपं जरिमा मिनाति पुरा तस्या अभिशस्तेरधीहि ||
nabho na rūpaṃ jarimā mināti purā tasyā abhiśasteradhīhi ||
Old age, like gathering cloud, impairs the body: before that evil be come nigh protect me.
