1.73.1
रयिर्न यः पित्र्वित्तो वयोधाः सुप्रणीतिश्चिकितुषो नशासुः |
rayirna yaḥ pitṛvitto vayodhāḥ supraṇītiścikituṣo naśāsuḥ |
1. HE who gives food, like patrimonial riches and guides aright like some wise man's instruction,
1.73.2
सयोनाशीरतिथिर्न परीणानो होतेव सद्म विधतो वि तारीत ||
syonāśīratithirna prīṇāno hoteva sadma vidhato vi tārīt ||
Loved like a guest who lies in pleasant lodging,—may he, as Priest, prosper his servant's dwelling.
1.73.3
देवो न यः सविता सत्यमन्मा करत्वा निपाति वर्जनानि विश्वा |
devo na yaḥ savitā satyamanmā kratvā nipāti vṛjanāni viśvā |
2 He who like Savitar the God, true-minded protecteth with his power. all acts of vigour,
1.73.4
पुरुप्रशस्तो अमतिर्न सत्य आत्मेव शेवो दिधिषाय्यो भूत ||
purupraśasto amatirna satya ātmeva śevo didhiṣāyyo bhūt ||
Truthful, like splendour, glorified by many, like breath joy-giving,—all must strive to win him.
1.73.5
देवो न यः पर्थिवीं विश्वधाया उपक्षेति हितमित्रो न राजा |
devo na yaḥ pṛthivīṃ viśvadhāyā upakṣeti hitamitro na rājā |
3 He who on earth dwells like a king surrounded by faithful friends, like a God all-sustaining,
1.73.6
पुरःसदः शर्मसदो न वीरा अनवद्या पतिजुष्टेव नारी ||
puraḥsadaḥ śarmasado na vīrā anavadyā patijuṣṭeva nārī ||
Like heroes who preside, who sit in safety: like as a blameless dame dear to her husband.
1.73.7
तं तवा नरो दम आ नित्यमिद्धमग्ने सचन्त कषितिषु धरुवासु |
taṃ tvā naro dama ā nityamiddhamaghne sacanta kṣitiṣu dhruvāsu |
4 Thee, such, in settlements secure, O Agni, our men serve ever kindled in each dwelling.
1.73.8
अधि दयुम्नं नि दधुर्भूर्यस्मिन भवा विश्वायुर्धरुणो रयीणाम ||
adhi dyumnaṃ ni dadhurbhūryasmin bhavā viśvāyurdharuṇo rayīṇām ||
On him have they laid splendour in abundance: dear to all men, bearer be he of riches.
1.73.9
वि पर्क्षो अग्ने मघवानो अश्युर्वि सूरयो ददतो विश्वमायुः |
vi pṛkṣo aghne maghavāno aśyurvi sūrayo dadato viśvamāyuḥ |
5 May thy rich worshippers win food, O Agni, and princes gain long life who bring oblation.
1.73.10
सनेम वाजं समिथेष्वर्यो भागं देवेषु शरवसेदधानाः ||
sanema vājaṃ samitheṣvaryo bhāghaṃ deveṣu śravasedadhānāḥ ||
May we get booty from our foe in battle, presenting to the Gods their share for glory.
1.73.11
रतस्य हि धेनवो वावशानाः समदूध्नीः पीपयन्त दयुभक्ताः |
ṛtasya hi dhenavo vāvaśānāḥ smadūdhnīḥ pīpayanta dyubhaktāḥ |
6 The cows of holy law, sent us by Heaven, have swelled with laden udders, loudly lowing;
1.73.12
परावतः सुमतिं भिक्षमाणा वि सिन्धवः समया सस्रुरद्रिम ||
parāvataḥ sumatiṃ bhikṣamāṇā vi sindhavaḥ samayā sasruradrim ||
Soliciting his favour, from a distance the rivers to the rock have flowed together.
1.73.13
तवे अग्ने सुमतिं भिक्षमाणा दिवि शरवो दधिरे यज्ञियासः |
tve aghne sumatiṃ bhikṣamāṇā divi śravo dadhire yajñiyāsaḥ |
7 Agni, with thee, soliciting thy favour, the holy Ones have gained glory in heaven.
1.73.14
नक्ता च चक्रुरुषसा विरूपे कर्ष्णं च वर्णमरुणं च सं धुः ||
naktā ca cakruruṣasā virūpe kṛṣṇaṃ ca varṇamaruṇaṃ ca saṃ dhuḥ ||
They made the Night and Dawn of different colours, and set the black and purple hues together.
1.73.15
यान राये मर्तान सुषूदो अग्ने ते सयाम मघवानो वयं च |
yān rāye martān suṣūdo aghne te syāma maghavāno vayaṃ ca |
8 May we and those who worship be the mortals whom thou, O Agni, leadest on to riches.
1.73.16
छायेव विश्वं भुवनं सिसक्ष्यापप्रिवान रोदसी अन्तरिक्षम ||
chāyeva viśvaṃ bhuvanaṃ sisakṣyāpaprivān rodasī antarikṣam ||
Thou hast filled earth and heaven and air's mid-region, and followest the whole world like a shadow.
1.73.17
अर्वद्भिरग्ने अर्वतो नर्भिर्नॄन वीरैर्वीरान वनुयामा तवोताः |
arvadbhiraghne arvato nṛbhirnṝn vīrairvīrān vanuyāmā tvotāḥ |
9 Aided by thee, O Agni, may we conquer steeds with steeds, men with men, heroes with heroes,
1.73.18
ईशानासः पित्र्वित्तस्य रायो वि सूरयः शतहिमा नो अश्युः ||
īśānāsaḥ pitṛvittasya rāyo vi sūrayaḥ śatahimā no aśyuḥ ||
Lords of the wealth transmitted by our fathers: and may our princes live a hundred winters.
1.73.19
एता ते अग्न उचथानि वेधो जुष्टानि सन्तु मनसे हर्दे च |
etā te aghna ucathāni vedho juṣṭāni santu manase hṛde ca |
10 May these our hymns of praise, Agni, Ordainer, be pleasant to thee in thy heart and spirit.
1.73.20
शकेम रायः सुधुरो यमं ते.अधि शरवो देवभक्तं दधानाः ||
śakema rāyaḥ sudhuro yamaṃ te.adhi śravo devabhaktaṃ dadhānāḥ ||
May we have power to hold thy steeds of riches, laying on thee the God-sent gift of glory.
