10.120.1
तदिदास भुवनेषु जयेष्ठं यतो जज्ञ उग्रस्त्वेषन्र्म्णः |
tadidāsa bhuvaneṣu jyeṣṭhaṃ yato jajña ughrastveṣanṛmṇaḥ |
1. IN all the worlds That was the Best and Highest whence sprang the Mighty Gods, of splendid valour.
10.120.2
सद्यो जज्ञानो नि रिणाति शत्रूननु यंविश्वे मदन्त्यूमाः ||
sadyo jajñāno ni riṇāti śatrūnanu yaṃviśve madantyūmāḥ ||
As soon as born he overcomes his foemen, be in whom all who lend him aid are joyful.
10.120.3
वाव्र्धानः शवसा भूर्योजाः शत्रुर्दासाय भियसन्दधाति |
vāvṛdhānaḥ śavasā bhūryojāḥ śatrurdāsāya bhiyasandadhāti |
2 Grown mighty in his strength, with ample vigour, he as a foe strikes fear into the Dāsa,
10.120.4
अव्यनच्च वयनच्च सस्नि सं ते नवन्त परभ्र्तामदेषु ||
avyanacca vyanacca sasni saṃ te navanta prabhṛtāmadeṣu ||
Eager to win the breathing and the breathless. All sang thy praise at banquet and oblation.
10.120.5
तवे करतुमपि वर्ञ्जन्ति विश्वे दविर्यदेते तरिर्भवन्त्यूमाः |
tve kratumapi vṛñjanti viśve dviryadete trirbhavantyūmāḥ |
3 All concentrate on thee their mental vigour, what time these, twice or thrice, are thine assistants.
10.120.6
सवादोः सवादीयः सवादुना सर्जा समदः सुमधु मधुनाभि योधीः ||
svādoḥ svādīyaḥ svādunā sṛjā samadaḥ sumadhu madhunābhi yodhīḥ ||
Blend what is sweeter than the sweet with sweetness: win. quickly with our meath that meath in battle.
10.120.7
इति चिद धि तवा धना जयन्तं मदे-मदे अनुमदन्ति विप्राः |
iti cid dhi tvā dhanā jayantaṃ made-made anumadanti viprāḥ |
4 Therefore in thee too, thou who winnest riches, at every banquet are the sages joyful.
10.120.8
ओजीयो धर्ष्णो सथिरमा तनुष्व मा तवा दभन्यातुधाना दुरेवाः ||
ojīyo dhṛṣṇo sthiramā tanuṣva mā tvā dabhanyātudhānā durevāḥ ||
With mightier power, Bold God, extend thy firmness: let not malignant Yātudhānas harm thee.
10.120.9
तवया वयं शाशद्महे रणेषु परपश्यन्तो युधेन्यानिभूरि |
tvayā vayaṃ śāśadmahe raṇeṣu prapaśyanto yudhenyānibhūri |
5 Proudly we put our trust in thee in battles, when we behold great wealth the prize of combat.
10.120.10
चोदयामि त आयुधा वचोभिः सं ते शिशामिब्रह्मणा वयांसि ||
codayāmi ta āyudhā vacobhiḥ saṃ te śiśāmibrahmaṇā vayāṃsi ||
I with my words impel thy weapons onward, and sharpen with my prayer thy vital vigour.
10.120.11
सतुषेय्यं पुरुवर्पसं रभ्वमिनतममाप्त्यमाप्त्यानाम |
stuṣeyyaṃ puruvarpasaṃ ṛbhvaminatamamāptyamāptyānām |
6 Worthy of praises, many-shaped, most skilful, most energetic, Āptya of the Aptyas:
10.120.12
आ दर्षते शवसा सप्त दानून पर साक्षते परतिमानानिभूरि ||
ā darṣate śavasā sapta dānūn pra sākṣate pratimānānibhūri ||
He with his might destroys the seven Danus, subduing many who were deemed his equals.
10.120.13
नि तद दधिषे.अवरं परं च यस्मिन्नाविथावसा दुरोणे |
ni tad dadhiṣe.avaraṃ paraṃ ca yasminnāvithāvasā duroṇe |
7 Thou in that house which thy protection guardeth bestowest wealth, the higher and the lower.
10.120.14
आ मातरा सथापयसे जिगत्नू अत इनोषि कर्वरा पुरूणि ||
ā mātarā sthāpayase jighatnū ata inoṣi karvarā purūṇi ||
Thou stablishest the two much-wandering Mothers, and bringest many deeds to their completion.
10.120.15
इमा बरह्म बर्हद्दिवो विवक्तीन्द्राय शूषमग्रियःस्वर्षाः |
imā brahma bṛhaddivo vivaktīndrāya śūṣamaghriyaḥsvarṣāḥ |
8 Brhaddiva, the foremost of light-winners, repeats these holy prayers, this strength of Indra.
10.120.16
महो गोत्रस्य कषयति सवराजो दुरश्च विश्वाव्र्णोदप सवाः ||
maho ghotrasya kṣayati svarājo duraśca viśvāavṛṇodapa svāḥ ||
He rules the great self-luminous fold of cattle, and all the doors of light hath he thrown open.
10.120.17
एवा महान बर्हद्दिवो अथर्वावोचत सवां तन्वमिन्द्रमेव |
evā mahān bṛhaddivo atharvāvocat svāṃ tanvamindrameva |
9 Thus hath Brhaddiva, the great Atharvan, spoken to Indra as himself in person.
10.120.18
सवसारो मातरिभ्वरीररिप्रा हिन्वन्ति च शवसावर्धयन्ति च ||
svasāro mātaribhvarīrariprā hinvanti ca śavasāvardhayanti ca ||
The spotless Sisters, they who are his Mothers, with power exalt him and impel him onward.
