10.29.1
वने न वा यो नयधायि चाकञ्छुचिर्वां सतोमो भुरणावजीगः |
vane na vā yo nyadhāyi cākañchucirvāṃ stomo bhuraṇāvajīghaḥ |
1. As sits the young bird on the tree rejoicing, ye, swift Pair, have been roused by clear laudation,
10.29.2
यस्येदिन्द्रः पुरुदिनेषु होता नर्णां नर्योन्र्तमः कषपावान ||
yasyedindraḥ purudineṣu hotā nṛṇāṃ naryonṛtamaḥ kṣapāvān ||
Whose Herald-Priest through many days is Indra, earth's Guardian, Friend of men, the best of Heroes.
10.29.3
पर ते अस्या उषसः परापरस्या नर्तौ सयाम नर्तमस्यन्र्णाम |
pra te asyā uṣasaḥ prāparasyā nṛtau syāma nṛtamasyanṛṇām |
2 May we, when this Dawn and the next dance hither, be thy best servants, most heroic Hero!
10.29.4
अनु तरिशोकः शतमावहन नॄन कुत्सेन रथो योसत ससवान ||
anu triśokaḥ śatamāvahan nṝn kutsena ratho yoasat sasavān ||
Let the victorious car with triple splendour bring hitherward the hundred chiefs with Kutsa.
10.29.5
कस्ते मद इन्द्र रन्त्यो भूद दुरो गिरो अभ्युग्रो वि धाव |
kaste mada indra rantyo bhūd duro ghiro abhyughro vi dhāva |
3 What was the gladdening draught that pleased thee, Indra? Speed through our doors to songs, for thou art mighty.
10.29.6
कद वाहो अर्वागुप मा मनीषा आ तवा शक्यमुपमंराधो अन्नैः ||
kad vāho arvāghupa mā manīṣā ā tvā śakyamupamaṃrādho annaiḥ ||
Why comest thou to me, what gift attracts thee? Fain would I bring thee food most meet to offer.
10.29.7
कदु दयुम्नमिन्द्र तवावतो नॄन कया धिया करसे कन नागन |
kadu dyumnamindra tvāvato nṝn kayā dhiyā karase kan naāghan |
4 Indra, what fame hath one like thee mid heroes? With what plan wilt thou act? Why hast thou sought us?
10.29.8
मित्रो न सत्य उरुगाय भर्त्या अन्ने समस्य यदसन्मनीषाः ||
mitro na satya urughāya bhṛtyā anne samasya yadasanmanīṣāḥ ||
As a true Friend, Wide-Strider! to sustain us, since food absorbs the thought of each among us.
10.29.9
परेरय सूरो अर्थं न पारं ये अस्य कामं जनिधा इवग्मन |
preraya sūro arthaṃ na pāraṃ ye asya kāmaṃ janidhā ivaghman |
5 Speed happily those, as Sūrya ends his journey, who meet his wish as bridegrooms meet their spouses;
10.29.10
गिरश्च ये ते तुविजात पूर्वीर्नर इन्द्रप्रतिशिक्षन्त्यन्नैः ||
ghiraśca ye te tuvijāta pūrvīrnara indrapratiśikṣantyannaiḥ ||
Men who present, O Indra strong by nature, with food the many songs that tell thy praises.
10.29.11
मात्रे नु ते सुमिते इन्द्र पूर्वी दयौर्मज्मना पर्थिवीकाव्येन |
mātre nu te sumite indra pūrvī dyaurmajmanā pṛthivīkāvyena |
6 Thine are two measures, Indra, wide-wellmeted, heaven for thy majesty, earth for thy wisdom.
10.29.12
वराय ते घर्तवन्तः सुतासः सवाद्मन भवन्तुपीतये मधूनि ||
varāya te ghṛtavantaḥ sutāsaḥ svādman bhavantupītaye madhūni ||
Here for thy choice are Somas mixed with butter: may the sweet meath be pleasant for thy drinking.
10.29.13
आ मध्वो अस्मा असिचन्नमत्रमिन्द्राय पूर्णं स हिसत्यराधाः |
ā madhvo asmā asicannamatramindrāya pūrṇaṃ sa hisatyarādhāḥ |
7 They have poured out a bowl to him, to Indra, full of sweet juice, for faithful is his bounty.
10.29.14
स वाव्र्धे वरिमन्ना पर्थिव्या अभि करत्वानर्यः पौंस्यैश्च ||
sa vāvṛdhe varimannā pṛthivyā abhi kratvānaryaḥ pauṃsyaiśca ||
O'er earth's expanse hath he grown great by wisdom, the Friend of man, and by heroic exploits.
10.29.15
वयानळ इन्द्रः पर्तनाः सवोजा आस्मै यतन्ते सख्यायपूर्वीः |
vyānaḷ indraḥ pṛtanāḥ svojā āsmai yatante sakhyāyapūrvīḥ |
8 Indra hath conquered in his wars, the Mighty: men strive in multitudes to win his friendship.
10.29.16
आ समा रथं न पर्तनासु तिष्ठ यं भद्रयासुमत्या चोदयासे ||
ā smā rathaṃ na pṛtanāsu tiṣṭha yaṃ bhadrayāsumatyā codayāse ||
Ascend thy chariot as it were in battle, which thou shalt drive to us with gracious favour.
