10.35.1
अबुध्रमु तय इन्द्रवन्तो अग्नयो जयोतिर्भरन्त उषसोव्युष्टिषु |
abudhramu tya indravanto aghnayo jyotirbharanta uṣasovyuṣṭiṣu |
1. THESE fires associate with Indra are awake, bringing their light when first the Dawn begins to shine.
10.35.2
मही दयावाप्र्थिवी चेततामपो.अद्यादेवानामव आ वर्णीमहे ||
mahī dyāvāpṛthivī cetatāmapo.adyādevānāmava ā vṛṇīmahe ||
May Heaven and Earth, great Pair, observe our holy work. We claim for us this day the favour of the Gods.
10.35.3
दिवस्प्र्थिव्योरव आ वर्णीमहे मातॄन सिन्धून पर्वताञ्छर्यणावतः |
divaspṛthivyorava ā vṛṇīmahe mātṝn sindhūn parvatāñcharyaṇāvataḥ |
2 Yea, for ourselves we claim the grace of Heaven and Earth, of Śaryaṇāvān, of the Hills and Mother Streams.
10.35.4
अनागास्त्वं सूर्यमुषासमीमहे भद्रंसोमः सुवानो अद्या कर्णोतु नः ||
anāghāstvaṃ sūryamuṣāsamīmahe bhadraṃsomaḥ suvāno adyā kṛṇotu naḥ ||
For innocence we pray to Sūrya and to Dawn. So may the flowing Soma bring us bliss to-day.
10.35.5
दयावा नो अद्य पर्थिवी अनागसो मही तरायेतां सुवितायमातरा |
dyāvā no adya pṛthivī anāghaso mahī trāyetāṃ suvitāyamātarā |
3 May the great Twain, the Mothers, Heaven and Earth, this day preserve us free from sin for peace and happiness.
10.35.6
उषा उछन्त्यप बाधतामघं सवस्त्यग्निंसमिधानमीमहे ||
uṣā uchantyapa bādhatāmaghaṃ svastyaghniṃsamidhānamīmahe ||
May Morning sending forth her light drive sin afar. We pray to kindled Agni for felicity.
10.35.7
इयं न उस्रा परथमा सुदेव्यं रेवत सनिभ्यो रेवती वयुछतु |
iyaṃ na usrā prathamā sudevyaṃ revat sanibhyo revatī vyuchatu |
4 May this first Dawn bring us the host of gracious Gods: rich, may it richly shine for us who strive for wealth.
10.35.8
आरे मन्युं दुर्विदत्रस्य धीमहि सवस्त्यग्निंसमिधानमीमहे ||
āre manyuṃ durvidatrasya dhīmahi svastyaghniṃsamidhānamīmahe ||
The wrath of the malignant may we keep afar. We pray to kindled Agni for feilicity.
10.35.9
पर याः सिस्रते सूर्यस्य रश्मिभिर्ज्योतिर्भरन्तीरुषसो वयुष्टिषु |
pra yāḥ sisrate sūryasya raśmibhirjyotirbharantīruṣaso vyuṣṭiṣu |
5 Dawns, who come forward with the bright beams of the Sun, and at your earliest flushing bring to us the light,
10.35.10
भद्रा नो अद्य शरवसे वयुछत सवस्त्यग्निं समिधानमीमहे ||
bhadrā no adya śravase vyuchata svastyaghniṃ samidhānamīmahe ||
Shine ye on us to-day auspicious, for renown. We pray to kindled Agni for felicity.
10.35.11
अनमीवा उषस आ चरन्तु न उदग्नयो जिहतां जयोतिषाब्र्हत |
anamīvā uṣasa ā carantu na udaghnayo jihatāṃ jyotiṣābṛhat |
6 Free from all sickness may the Mornings come to us, and let our fires mount upward with a lofty blaze.
10.35.12
आयुक्षातामश्विना तूतुजिं रथं सवस्त्यग्निंसमिधानमीमहे ||
āyukṣātāmaśvinā tūtujiṃ rathaṃ svastyaghniṃsamidhānamīmahe ||
The Aśvin Pair have harnessed their swift-moving car. We pray to kindled Agni for felicity.
10.35.13
शरेष्ठं नो अद्य सवितर्वरेण्यं भागमा सुव स हिरत्नधा असि |
śreṣṭhaṃ no adya savitarvareṇyaṃ bhāghamā suva sa hiratnadhā asi |
7 Send us to-day a portion choice and excellent, O Savitar, for thou art he who dealeth wealth.
10.35.14
रायो जनित्रीं धिषणामुप बरुवे सवस्त्यग्निं समिधानमीमहे ||
rāyo janitrīṃ dhiṣaṇāmupa bruve svastyaghniṃ samidhānamīmahe ||
I cry to Dhiṣaṇā, Mother of opulence. We pray to kindled Agni for felicity.
10.35.15
पिपर्तु मा तद रतस्य परवाचनं देवानां यन मनुष्यामन्महि |
pipartu mā tad ṛtasya pravācanaṃ devānāṃ yan manuṣyāamanmahi |
8 Further me this declaring of Eternal Law, the Law of Gods, as we mortals acknowledge it!
10.35.16
विश्वा इदुस्रा सपळ उदेति सूर्यः सवस्त्यग्निं समिधानमीमहे ||
viśvā idusrā spaḷ udeti sūryaḥ svastyaghniṃ samidhānamīmahe ||
The Sun goes up beholding all the rays of morn. We pray to kindled Agni for felicity.
10.35.17
अद्वेषो अद्य बर्हिष सतरीमणि गराव्णां योगे मन्मनःसाध ईमहे |
adveṣo adya barhiṣa starīmaṇi ghrāvṇāṃ yoghe manmanaḥsādha īmahe |
9 This day we pray with innocence in strewing grass, adjusting pressing-stones, and perfecting the hymn.
10.35.18
आदित्यानां शर्मणि सथा भुरण्यसि सवस्त्यग्निं समिधानमीमहे ||
ādityānāṃ śarmaṇi sthā bhuraṇyasi svastyaghniṃ samidhānamīmahe ||
Thou in the Ādityas’ keeping movest restlessly. We pray to kindled Agni for felicity.
10.35.19
आ नो बर्हिः सधमादे बर्हद दिवि देवानीळे सादयासप्त होतॄन |
ā no barhiḥ sadhamāde bṛhad divi devānīḷe sādayāsapta hotṝn |
10 To our great holy grass I bid the Gods at morn to banquet, and will seat them as the seven priests,—
10.35.20
इन्द्रं मित्रं वरुणं सातये भगं सवस्त्यग्निं समिधानमीमहे ||
indraṃ mitraṃ varuṇaṃ sātaye bhaghaṃ svastyaghniṃ samidhānamīmahe ||
Varuṇa, Indra, Mitra, Bhaga for our gain. We pray to kindled Agni for felicity.
10.35.21
त आदित्या आ गता सर्वतातये वर्धे नो यज्ञमवतासजोषसः |
ta ādityā ā ghatā sarvatātaye vṛdhe no yajñamavatāsajoṣasaḥ |
11 Come hither, O Ādityas, for our perfect weal: accordant help our sacrifice that we may thrive.
10.35.22
बर्हस्पतिं पूषणमश्विना भगं सवस्त्यग्निं समिधानमीमहे ||
bṛhaspatiṃ pūṣaṇamaśvinā bhaghaṃ svastyaghniṃ samidhānamīmahe ||
Pūṣan, Bṛhaspati, Bhaga, both Aśvins, and enkindled Agni we implore for happiness.
10.35.23
तन नो देवा यछत सुप्रवाचनं छर्दिरादित्याः सुभरंन्र्पाय्यम |
tan no devā yachata supravācanaṃ chardirādityāḥ subharaṃnṛpāyyam |
12 Ādityas, Gods, vouchsafe that this our home may be praise-worthy, prosperous, our heroes' sure defence,
10.35.24
पश्वे तोकाय तनयाय जीवसे सवस्त्यग्निंसमिधानमीमहे ||
paśve tokāya tanayāya jīvase svastyaghniṃsamidhānamīmahe ||
For cattle, for our sons, for progeny, for life. We pray to kindled Agni for felicity.
10.35.25
विश्वे अद्य मरुतो विश्व ऊती विश्वे भवन्त्वग्नयःसमिद्धाः |
viśve adya maruto viśva ūtī viśve bhavantvaghnayaḥsamiddhāḥ |
13 This day may all the Maruts, all he near us with aid: may all our fires be well enkindled.
10.35.26
विश्वे नो देवा अवसा गमन्तु विश्वमस्तुद्रविणं वाजो अस्मे ||
viśve no devā avasā ghamantu viśvamastudraviṇaṃ vājo asme ||
May all Gods come to us with gracious favour. May spoil and wealth he ours, and all possessions.
10.35.27
यं देवासो.अवथ वाजसातौ यं तरायध्वे यं पिप्र्थात्यंहः |
yaṃ devāso.avatha vājasātau yaṃ trāyadhve yaṃ pipṛthātyaṃhaḥ |
14 He whom ye aid, O Deities, in battle, whom ye protect and rescue from affliction,
10.35.28
यो वो गोपीथे न भयस्य वेद ते सयामदेववीतये तुरासः ||
yo vo ghopīthe na bhayasya veda te syāmadevavītaye turāsaḥ ||
Who fears no danger at your milk-libation, -such may we be to feast the Gods, ye Mighty.
