2.30.1
रतं देवाय कर्ण्वते सवित्र इन्द्रायाहिघ्ने न रमन्त आपः |
ṛtaṃ devāya kṛṇvate savitra indrāyāhighne na ramanta āpaḥ |
1. THE streams unceasing flow to Indra, slayer of Ahi, Savitar, God, Law's fulfiller,
2.30.2
अहर-अहर्यात्यक्तुरपां कियात्या परथमः सर्ग आसाम ||
ahar-aharyātyakturapāṃ kiyātyā prathamaḥ sargha āsām ||
Day after day goes on the sheen of waters. What time hath past since they were first set flowing?
2.30.3
यो वर्त्राय सिनमत्राभरिष्यत पर तं जनित्री विदुष उवाच |
yo vṛtrāya sinamatrābhariṣyat pra taṃ janitrī viduṣa uvāca |
2 His Mother—for she knew—spake and proclaimed him who was about to cast his bolt at Vṛtra.
2.30.4
पथो रदन्तीरनु जोषमस्मै दिवे-दिवे धुनयो यन्त्यर्थम ||
patho radantīranu joṣamasmai dive-dive dhunayo yantyartham ||
Cutting their paths according to his pleasure day after day flow to their goal the rivers.
2.30.5
ऊर्ध्वो हयस्थादध्यन्तरिक्षे.अधा वर्त्राय पर वधंजभार |
ūrdhvo hyasthādadhyantarikṣe.adhā vṛtrāya pra vadhaṃjabhāra |
3 Aloft he stood above the airy region, and against Vṛtra shot his deadly missile.
2.30.6
मिहं वसान उप हीमदुद्रोत तिग्मायुधो अजयच्छत्रुमिन्द्रः ||
mihaṃ vasāna upa hīmadudrot tighmāyudho ajayacchatrumindraḥ ||
Enveloped in a cloud he rushed upon him. Indra subdued the foe with sharpened weapons.
2.30.7
बर्हस्पते तपुषाश्नेव विध्य वर्कद्वरसो असुरस्य वीरान |
bṛhaspate tapuṣāśneva vidhya vṛkadvaraso asurasya vīrān |
4 As with a bolt, Bṛhaspati, fiercely flaming, pierce thou Vṛkadvaras’, the Asura's, heroes.
2.30.8
यथा जघन्थ धर्षता पुरा चिदेवा जहि शत्रुमस्माकमिन्द्र ||
yathā jaghantha dhṛṣatā purā cidevā jahi śatrumasmākamindra ||
Even as in time of old with might thou slewest, so slay even now our enemy, O Indra.
2.30.9
अव कषिप दिवो अश्मानमुच्चा येन शत्रुं मन्दसानो निजूर्वाः |
ava kṣipa divo aśmānamuccā yena śatruṃ mandasāno nijūrvāḥ |
5 Cast down from heaven on high thy bolt of thunder wherewith in joy thou smitest dead the foeman.
2.30.10
तोकस्य सातौ तनयस्य भूरेरस्मानर्धं कर्णुतादिन्द्र गोनाम ||
tokasya sātau tanayasya bhūrerasmānardhaṃ kṛṇutādindra ghonām ||
For gain of children make us thine, O Indra, of many children's children and of cattle.
2.30.11
पर हि करतुं वर्हथो यं वनुथो रध्रस्य सथो यजमानस्य चोदौ |
pra hi kratuṃ vṛhatho yaṃ vanutho radhrasya stho yajamānasya codau |
6 Whomso ye love, his power ye aid and strengthen; ye Twain are the rich worshipper's advancers.
2.30.12
इन्द्रासोमा युवमस्मानविष्टमस्मिन भयस्थे कर्णुतमु लोकम ||
indrāsomā yuvamasmānaviṣṭamasmin bhayasthe kṛṇutamu lokam ||
Graciously favour us, Indra and Soma; give us firm standing in this time of danger.
2.30.13
न मा तमन न शरमन नोत तन्द्रन न वोचाम मा सुनोतेति सोमम |
na mā taman na śraman nota tandran na vocāma mā sunoteti somam |
7 Let it not vex me, tire me, make me slothful, and never let us say, Press not the Soma;
2.30.14
यो मे पर्णाद यो ददद यो निबोधाद यो मा सुन्वन्तमुप गोभिरायत ||
yo me pṛṇād yo dadad yo nibodhād yo mā sunvantamupa ghobhirāyat ||
For him who cares for me, gives gifts, supports me, who comes with kine to me who pour libations.
2.30.15
सरस्वति तवमस्मानविड्ढि मरुत्वती धर्षती जेषि शत्रून |
sarasvati tvamasmānaviḍḍhi marutvatī dhṛṣatī jeṣi śatrūn |
8 Sarasvatī, protect us: with the Maruts allied thou boldly conquerest our foemen,
2.30.16
तयं चिच्छर्धन्तं तविषीयमाणमिन्द्रो हन्ति वर्षभं शण्डिकानाम ||
tyaṃ cicchardhantaṃ taviṣīyamāṇamindro hanti vṛṣabhaṃ śaṇḍikānām ||
While Indra does to death the daring chieftain of Śaṇḍikas exulting in his prowess.
2.30.17
यो नः सनुत्य उत वा जिघत्नुरभिख्याय तं तिगितेन विध्य |
yo naḥ sanutya uta vā jighatnurabhikhyāya taṃ tighitena vidhya |
9 Him who waylays, yea, him who would destroy us,—aim at him, pierce him with thy sharpened weapon.
2.30.18
बर्हस्पत आयुधैर्जेषि शत्रून दरुहे रीषन्तं परि धेहि राजन ||
bṛhaspata āyudhairjeṣi śatrūn druhe rīṣantaṃ pari dhehi rājan ||
Bṛhaspati, with arms thou slayest foemen O King, give up the spoiler to destruction.
2.30.19
अस्माकेभिः सत्वभिः शूर शूरैर्वीर्य कर्धि यानि ते कर्त्वानि |
asmākebhiḥ satvabhiḥ śūra śūrairvīrya kṛdhi yāni te kartvāni |
10 Perform, O Hero, with our valiant heroes the deeds heroic which thou hast to finish.
2.30.20
जयोगभूवन्ननुधूपितासो हत्वी तेशामा भरानो वसूनि ||
jyoghabhūvannanudhūpitāso hatvī teśāmā bharāno vasūni ||
Long have they been inflated with presumption: slay them, and bring us hither their possessions.
2.30.21
तं वः शर्धं मारुतं सुम्नयुर्गिरोप बरुवे नमसा दैव्यं जनम |
taṃ vaḥ śardhaṃ mārutaṃ sumnayurghiropa bruve namasā daivyaṃ janam |
11 I craving joy address with hymn and homage your heavenly host, the company of Maruts,
2.30.22
यथा रयिं सर्ववीरं नशामहा अपत्यसाचं शरुत्यं दिवे-दिवे ||
yathā rayiṃ sarvavīraṃ naśāmahā apatyasācaṃ śrutyaṃ dive-dive ||
That we may gain wealth with full store of heroes, each day more famous, and with troops of children.
