3.4.1
समित-समित सुमना बोध्यस्मे शुचा-शुचा सुमतिं रासि वस्वः |
samit-samit sumanā bodhyasme śucā-śucā sumatiṃ rāsi vasvaḥ |
1. BE friendly with each kindled log of fuel, with every flash bestow the boon of riches.
3.4.2
आ देव देवान यजथाय वक्षि सखा सखीन सुमना यक्ष्यग्ने ||
ā deva devān yajathāya vakṣi sakhā sakhīn sumanā yakṣyaghne ||
Bring thou the Gods, O God, unto our worship: serve, well-inclined, as Friend thy friends, O Agni.
3.4.3
यं देवासस्त्रिरहन्नायजन्ते दिवे-दिवे वरुणो मित्रो अग्निः |
yaṃ devāsastrirahannāyajante dive-dive varuṇo mitro aghniḥ |
2 Agni whom daily Varuṇa and Mitra the Gods bring thrice a day to this our worship,
3.4.4
सेमं यज्ञं मधुमन्तं कर्धी नस्तनूनपाद घर्तयोनिं विधन्तम ||
semaṃ yajñaṃ madhumantaṃ kṛdhī nastanūnapād ghṛtayoniṃ vidhantam ||
Tanūnapāt, enrich with meath our service that dwells with holy oil, that offers honour.
3.4.5
पर दीधितिर्विश्ववारा जिगाति होतारमिळः परथमं यजध्यै |
pra dīdhitirviśvavārā jighāti hotāramiḷaḥ prathamaṃ yajadhyai |
3 The thought that bringeth every boon proceedeth to worship first the Priest of the libation,
3.4.6
अछा नमोभिर्व्र्षभं वन्दध्यै स देवान यक्षदिषितो यजीयान ||
achā namobhirvṛṣabhaṃ vandadhyai sa devān yakṣadiṣito yajīyān ||
That we may greet the Strong One with our homage. Urged, may he bring the Gods, best Sacrificer.
3.4.7
ऊर्ध्वो वां गातुरध्वरे अकार्यूर्ध्वा शोचींषि परस्थिता रजांसि |
ūrdhvo vāṃ ghāturadhvare akāryūrdhvā śocīṃṣi prasthitā rajāṃsi |
4 On high your way to sacrifice was made ready; the radiant flames went upward to the regions.
3.4.8
दिवो वा नाभा नयसादि होता सत्र्णीमहि देवव्यचा वि बर्हिः ||
divo vā nābhā nyasādi hotā stṛṇīmahi devavyacā vi barhiḥ ||
Full in the midst of heaven the Priest is seated: sirew we the sacred grass where Gods may rest them.
3.4.9
सप्त होत्राणि मनसा वर्णाना इन्वन्तो विश्वं परति यन्न्र्तेन |
sapta hotrāṇi manasā vṛṇānā invanto viśvaṃ prati yannṛtena |
5 Claiming in mind the seven priests' burntoblations, inciting all, they came in settled order.
3.4.10
नर्पेशसो विदथेषु पर जाता अभीमं यज्ञं वि चरन्त पूर्वीः ||
nṛpeśaso vidatheṣu pra jātā abhīmaṃ yajñaṃ vi caranta pūrvīḥ ||
To this our sacrifice approach the many who show in hero beauty at assemblies.
3.4.11
आ भन्दमाने उषसा उपाके उत समयेते तन्वा विरूपे |
ā bhandamāne uṣasā upāke uta smayete tanvā virūpe |
6 Night and Dawn, lauded, hither come together, both smiling, different are their forms in colour,
3.4.12
यथा नो मित्रो वरुणो जुजोषदिन्द्रो मरुत्वानुत वा महोभिः ||
yathā no mitro varuṇo jujoṣadindro marutvānuta vā mahobhiḥ ||
That Varuṇa and Mitra may accept us, and Indra, girt by Maruts, with his glories.
3.4.13
दैव्या होतारा परथमा नय रञ्जे सप्त पर्क्षासः सवधयामदन्ति |
daivyā hotārā prathamā ny ṛñje sapta pṛkṣāsaḥ svadhayāmadanti |
7. I crave the grace of heaven's two chief Invokers: the seven swift steeds joy in their wonted manner.
3.4.14
रतं शंसन्त रतमित त आहुरनु वरतं वरतपा दीध्यानाः ||
ṛtaṃ śaṃsanta ṛtamit ta āhuranu vrataṃ vratapā dīdhyānāḥ ||
These speak of truth, praising the truth eternal, thinking on Order as the guards of Order.
3.4.15
आ भारती भारतीभिः सजोषा इळा देवैर्मनुष्येभिरग्निः |
ā bhāratī bhāratībhiḥ sajoṣā iḷā devairmanuṣyebhiraghniḥ |
8 May Bhāratī with all her Sisters, Iḷā accordant with the Gods, with mortalls Agni,
3.4.16
सरस्वती सारस्वतेभिरर्वाक तिस्रो देवीर्बर्हिरेदं सदन्तु ||
sarasvatī sārasvatebhirarvāk tisro devīrbarhiredaṃ sadantu ||
Sarasvatī with all her kindred Rivers, come to this grass, Three Goddesses, and seat them.
3.4.17
तन नस्तुरीपमध पोषयित्नु देव तवष्टर्वि रराणः सयस्व |
tan nasturīpamadha poṣayitnu deva tvaṣṭarvi rarāṇaḥ syasva |
9 Well pleased with us do thou O God, O Tvaṣṭar, give ready issue to our procreant vigour,
3.4.18
यतो वीरः कर्मण्यः सुदक्षो युक्तग्रावा जायते देवकामः ||
yato vīraḥ karmaṇyaḥ sudakṣo yuktaghrāvā jāyate devakāmaḥ ||
Whence springs the hero, powerful, skilled in action, lover of Gods, adjuster of the press-stones.
3.4.19
वनस्पते.अव सर्जोप देवानग्निर्हविः शमिता सूदयाति |
vanaspate.ava sṛjopa devānaghnirhaviḥ śamitā sūdayāti |
10 Send to the Gods the oblation, Lord of Forests; and let the Immolator, Agni, dress it.
3.4.20
सेदु होता सत्यतरो यजाति यथा देवानां जनिमानि वेद ||
sedu hotā satyataro yajāti yathā devānāṃ janimāni veda ||
He as the truer Priest shall offer worship, for the Gods’ generations well he knoweth.
3.4.21
आ याह्यग्ने समिधानो अर्वां इन्द्रेण देवैः सरथं तुरेभिः |
ā yāhyaghne samidhāno arvāṃ indreṇa devaiḥ sarathaṃ turebhiḥ |
11 Come thou to us, O Agni, duly kindled, together with the potent Gods and Indra.
3.4.22
बर्हिर्न आस्तामदितिः सुपुत्रा सवाहा देवा अम्र्तामादयन्ताम ||
barhirna āstāmaditiḥ suputrā svāhā devā amṛtāmādayantām ||
On this our grass sit Aditi, happy Mother, and let our Hail delight the Gods Immortal.
