3.59.1
मित्रो जनान यातयति बरुवाणो मित्रो दाधार पर्थिवीमुत दयाम |
mitro janān yātayati bruvāṇo mitro dādhāra pṛthivīmuta dyām |
1. MITRA, when speaking, stirreth men to labour: Mitra sustaineth both the earth and heaven.
3.59.2
मित्रः कर्ष्टीरनिमिषाभि चष्टे मित्राय हव्यंघ्र्तवज्जुहोत ||
mitraḥ kṛṣṭīranimiṣābhi caṣṭe mitrāya havyaṃghṛtavajjuhota ||
Mitra beholdeth men with eyes that close not. To Mitra bring, with holy oil, oblation.
3.59.3
पर स मित्र मर्तो अस्तु परयस्वान यस्त आदित्य शिक्षति वरतेन |
pra sa mitra marto astu prayasvān yasta āditya śikṣati vratena |
2 Foremost be he who brings thee food, O Mitra, who strives to keep thy sacred Law, Āditya.
3.59.4
न हन्यते न जीयते तवोतो नैनमंहो अश्नोत्यन्तितो न दूरात ||
na hanyate na jīyate tvoto nainamaṃho aśnotyantito na dūrāt ||
He whom thou helpest ne’er is slain or conquered, on him, from near or far, falls no affliction.
3.59.5
अनमीवास इळया मदन्तो मितज्ञवो वरिमन्ना पर्थिव्याः |
anamīvāsa iḷayā madanto mitajñavo varimannā pṛthivyāḥ |
3 joying in sacred food and free from sickness, with knees bent lowly on the earth's broad surface,
3.59.6
आदित्यस्य वरतमुपक्षियन्तो वयं मित्रस्य सुमतौ सयाम ||
ādityasya vratamupakṣiyanto vayaṃ mitrasya sumatau syāma ||
Following closely the Āditya's statute, may we remain in Mitra's gracious favour.
3.59.7
अयं मित्रो नमस्यः सुशेवो राजा सुक्षत्रो अजनिष्ट वेधाः |
ayaṃ mitro namasyaḥ suśevo rājā sukṣatro ajaniṣṭa vedhāḥ |
4 Auspicious and adorable, this Mitra was born with fair dominion, King, Disposer.
3.59.8
तस्य वयं ... ||
tasya vayaṃ ... ||
May we enjoy the grace of him the Holy, yea, rest in his propitious loving-kindness.
3.59.9
महानादित्यो नमसोपसद्यो यातयज्जनो गर्णते सुशेवः |
mahānādityo namasopasadyo yātayajjano ghṛṇate suśevaḥ |
5 The great Āditya, to be served with wor. ship, who stirreth men, is gracious to the singer.
3.59.10
तस्मा एतत पन्यतमाय जुष्टमग्नौ मित्राय हविरा जुहोत ||
tasmā etat panyatamāya juṣṭamaghnau mitrāya havirā juhota ||
To Mitra, him most highly to be lauded, offer in fire oblation that he loveth.
3.59.11
मित्रस्य चर्षणीध्र्तो.अवो देवस्य सानसि |
mitrasya carṣaṇīdhṛto.avo devasya sānasi |
6 The gainful grace of Mitra,. God, supporter of the race of man,
3.59.12
दयुम्नं चित्रश्रवस्तमम ||
dyumnaṃ citraśravastamam ||
Gives splendour of most.glorious fame.
3.59.13
अभि यो महिना दिवं मित्रो बभूव सप्रथाः |
abhi yo mahinā divaṃ mitro babhūva saprathāḥ |
7 Mitra whose glory spreads afar, he who in might surpasses heaven,
3.59.14
अभि शरवोभिः पर्थिवीम ||
abhi śravobhiḥ pṛthivīm ||
Surpasses earth in his renown.
3.59.15
मित्राय पञ्च येमिरे जना अभिष्टिशवसे |
mitrāya pañca yemire janā abhiṣṭiśavase |
8 All the Five Races have repaired to Mitra, ever strong to aid,
3.59.16
स देवान विश्वान बिभर्ति ||
sa devān viśvān bibharti ||
For he sustaineth all the Gods.
3.59.17
मित्रो देवेष्वायुषु जनाय वर्क्तबर्हिषे |
mitro deveṣvāyuṣu janāya vṛktabarhiṣe |
9 Mitra to Gods, to living men, to him who strews the holy grass,
3.59.18
इष इष्टव्रताकः ||
iṣa iṣṭavratāakaḥ ||
Gives food fulfilling sacred Law.
