4.26.1
अहम मनुर अभवं सूर्यश चाहं कक्षीवां रषिर अस्मि विप्रः |
aham manur abhavaṃ sūryaś cāhaṃ kakṣīvāṃ ṛṣir asmi vipraḥ |
1. I WAS aforetime Manu, I was Sūrya: I am the sage Kakṣīvān, holy singer.
4.26.2
अहं कुत्सम आर्जुनेयं नय ॠञ्जे ऽहं कविर उशना पश्यता मा ||
ahaṃ kutsam ārjuneyaṃ ny ṝñje 'haṃ kavir uśanā paśyatā mā ||
Kutsa the son of Ārjuni I master. I am the sapient Uśanā behold me.
4.26.3
अहम भूमिम अददाम आर्यायाहं वर्ष्टिं दाशुषे मर्त्याय |
aham bhūmim adadām āryāyāhaṃ vṛṣṭiṃ dāśuṣe martyāya |
2 I have bestowed the earth upon the Ārya, and rain upon the man who brings oblation.
4.26.4
अहम अपो अनयं वावशाना मम देवासो अनु केतम आयन ||
aham apo anayaṃ vāvaśānā mama devāso anu ketam āyan ||
I guided forth the loudly-roaring waters, and the Gods moved according to my pleasure.
4.26.5
अहम पुरो मन्दसानो वय ऐरं नव साकं नवतीः शम्बरस्य |
aham puro mandasāno vy airaṃ nava sākaṃ navatīḥ śambarasya |
3 In the wild joy of Soma I demolished Śambara's forts, ninety-and-nine, together;
4.26.6
शततमं वेश्यं सर्वताता दिवोदासम अतिथिग्वं यद आवम ||
śatatamaṃ veśyaṃ sarvatātā divodāsam atithighvaṃ yad āvam ||
And, utterly, the hundredth habitation, when helping Divodāsa Atithigva.
4.26.7
पर सु ष विभ्यो मरुतो विर अस्तु पर शयेनः शयेनेभ्य आशुपत्वा |
pra su ṣa vibhyo maruto vir astu pra śyenaḥ śyenebhya āśupatvā |
4 Before all birds be ranked this Bird, O Maruts; supreme of falcons be this fleet-winged Falcon,
4.26.8
अचक्रया यत सवधया सुपर्णो हव्यम भरन मनवे देवजुष्टम ||
acakrayā yat svadhayā suparṇo havyam bharan manave devajuṣṭam ||
Because, strong- pinioned, with no car to bear him, he brought to Manu the Godloved oblation.
4.26.9
भरद यदि विर अतो वेविजानः पथोरुणा मनोजवा असर्जि |
bharad yadi vir ato vevijānaḥ pathoruṇā manojavā asarji |
5 When the Bird brought it, hence in rapid motion sent on the wide path fleet as thought he hurried.
4.26.10
तूयं ययौ मधुना सोम्येनोत शरवो विविदे शयेनो अत्र ||
tūyaṃ yayau madhunā somyenota śravo vivide śyeno atra ||
Swift he returned with sweetness of the Soma, and hence the Falcon hath acquired his glory.
4.26.11
रजीपी शयेनो ददमानो अंशुम परावतः शकुनो मन्द्रम मदम |
ṛjīpī śyeno dadamāno aṃśum parāvataḥ śakuno mandram madam |
6 Bearing the stalk, the Falcon speeding onward, Bird bringing from afar the draught that gladdens,
4.26.12
सोमम भरद दाद्र्हाणो देवावान दिवो अमुष्माद उत्तराद आदाय ||
somam bharad dādṛhāṇo devāvān divo amuṣmād uttarād ādāya ||
Friend of the Gods, brought, grasping fast, the Soma which be bad taken from yon loftiest heaven.
4.26.13
आदाय शयेनो अभरत सोमं सहस्रं सवां अयुतं च साकम |
ādāya śyeno abharat somaṃ sahasraṃ savāṃ ayutaṃ ca sākam |
7 The Falcon took and brought the Soma, bearing thousand libations with him, yea, ten thousand.
4.26.14
अत्रा पुरंधिर अजहाद अरातीर मदे सोमस्य मूरा अमूरः ||
atrā puraṃdhir ajahād arātīr made somasya mūrā amūraḥ ||
The Bold One left Malignities behind him, wise, in wild joy of Soma, left the foolish.
