4.32.1
आ तू न इन्द्र वर्त्रहन्न अस्माकम अर्धम आ गहि |
ā tū na indra vṛtrahann asmākam ardham ā ghahi |
1. O THOU who slewest Vṛtra, come, O Indra, hither to our side,
4.32.2
महान महीभिर ऊतिभिः ||
mahān mahībhir ūtibhiḥ ||
Mighty One with thy mighty aids.
4.32.3
भर्मिश चिद घासि तूतुजिर आ चित्र चित्रिणीष्व आ |
bhṛmiś cid ghāsi tūtujir ā citra citriṇīṣv ā |
2 Swift and impetuous art thou, wondrous amid the well-dressed folk:
4.32.4
चित्रं कर्णोष्य ऊतये ||
citraṃ kṛṇoṣy ūtaye ||
Thou doest marvels for our help.
4.32.5
दभ्रेभिश चिच छशीयांसं हंसि वराधन्तम ओजसा |
dabhrebhiś cic chaśīyāṃsaṃ haṃsi vrādhantam ojasā |
3 Even with the weak thou smitest down him
4.32.6
सखिभिर ये तवे सचा ||
sakhibhir ye tve sacā ||
who is stronger, with thy strength
4.32.7
वयम इन्द्र तवे सचा वयं तवाभि नोनुमः |
vayam indra tve sacā vayaṃ tvābhi nonumaḥ |
The mighty, with the Friends thou hast.
4.32.8
अस्मां-अस्मां इद उद अव ||
asmāṃ-asmāṃ id ud ava ||
4 O Indra, we are close to thee; to thee we sing aloud our songs:
4.32.9
स नश चित्राभिर अद्रिवो ऽनवद्याभिर ऊतिभिः |
sa naś citrābhir adrivo 'navadyābhir ūtibhiḥ |
Help and defend us, even us.
4.32.10
अनाध्र्ष्टाभिर आ गहि ||
anādhṛṣṭābhir ā ghahi ||
5 As such, O Caster of the Stone, come with thy succours wonderful,
4.32.11
भूयामो षु तवावतः सखाय इन्द्र गोमतः |
bhūyāmo ṣu tvāvataḥ sakhāya indra ghomataḥ |
Blameless, and irresistible.
4.32.12
युजो वाजाय घर्ष्वये ||
yujo vājāya ghṛṣvaye ||
6 May we be friends of one like thee, O Indra, with the wealth of kine,
4.32.13
तवं हय एक ईशिष इन्द्र वाजस्य गोमतः |
tvaṃ hy eka īśiṣa indra vājasya ghomataḥ |
Comrades for lively energy.
4.32.14
स नो यन्धि महीम इषम ||
sa no yandhi mahīm iṣam ||
7 For thou, O Indra, art alone the Lord of strength that comes from kine
4.32.15
न तवा वरन्ते अन्यथा यद दित्ससि सतुतो मघम |
na tvā varante anyathā yad ditsasi stuto magham |
So grant thou us abundant food.
4.32.16
सतोत्र्भ्य इन्द्र गिर्वणः ||
stotṛbhya indra ghirvaṇaḥ ||
8 They turn thee not another way, when, lauded, Lover of the Song,
4.32.17
अभि तवा गोतमा गिरानूषत पर दावने |
abhi tvā ghotamā ghirānūṣata pra dāvane |
Thou wilt give wealth to those who praise.
4.32.18
इन्द्र वाजाय घर्ष्वये ||
indra vājāya ghṛṣvaye ||
9 The Gotamas have sung their song of praise to thee that thou mayst give,
4.32.19
पर ते वोचाम वीर्या या मन्दसान आरुजः |
pra te vocāma vīryā yā mandasāna ārujaḥ |
Indra, for lively energy.
4.32.20
पुरो दासीर अभीत्य ||
puro dāsīr abhītya ||
10 We will declare thy hero deeds, what Dāsa forts thou brakest down,
4.32.21
ता ते गर्णन्ति वेधसो यानि चकर्थ पौंस्या |
tā te ghṛṇanti vedhaso yāni cakartha pauṃsyā |
Attacking them in rapturous joy.
4.32.22
सुतेष्व इन्द्र गिर्वणः ||
suteṣv indra ghirvaṇaḥ ||
11 The sages sing those manly deeds which, Indra, Lover of the Song,
4.32.23
अवीव्र्धन्त गोतमा इन्द्र तवे सतोमवाहसः |
avīvṛdhanta ghotamā indra tve stomavāhasaḥ |
Thou wroughtest when the Soma flowed.
4.32.24
ऐषु धा वीरवद यशः ||
aiṣu dhā vīravad yaśaḥ ||
12 Indra, the Gotamas who bring thee praises have grown strong by thee.
4.32.25
यच चिद धि शश्वताम असीन्द्र साधारणस तवम |
yac cid dhi śaśvatām asīndra sādhāraṇas tvam |
Give them renown with hero sons.
4.32.26
तं तवा वयं हवामहे ||
taṃ tvā vayaṃ havāmahe ||
13 For, Indra, verily thou art the general treasure even of all .
4.32.27
अर्वाचीनो वसो भवास्मे सु मत्स्वान्धसः |
arvācīno vaso bhavāsme su matsvāndhasaḥ |
Thee, therefore, do we invocate.
4.32.28
सोमानाम इन्द्र सोमपाः ||
somānām indra somapāḥ ||
14 Excellent Indra, turn to us: glad thee among us with the juice
4.32.29
अस्माकं तवा मतीनाम आ सतोम इन्द्र यछतु |
asmākaṃ tvā matīnām ā stoma indra yachatu |
Of Somas, Soma-drinker thou.
4.32.30
अर्वाग आ वर्तया हरी ||
arvāgh ā vartayā harī ||
15 May praise from us who think Qn thee, O Indra, bring thee near to us.
4.32.31
पुरोळाशं च नो घसो जोषयासे गिरश च नः |
puroḷāśaṃ ca no ghaso joṣayāse ghiraś ca naḥ |
Turn thy two Bay Steeds hitherward.
4.32.32
वधूयुर इव योषणाम ||
vadhūyur iva yoṣaṇām ||
16 Eat of our sacrificial cake: rejoice thee in the songs we sing.
4.32.33
सहस्रं वयतीनां युक्तानाम इन्द्रम ईमहे |
sahasraṃ vyatīnāṃ yuktānām indram īmahe |
Even as a lover in his bride.
4.32.34
शतं सोमस्य खार्यः ||
śataṃ somasya khāryaḥ ||
17 To India for a thousand steeds well-trained and fleet of foot we pray,
4.32.35
सहस्रा ते शता वयं गवाम आ चयावयामसि |
sahasrā te śatā vayaṃ ghavām ā cyāvayāmasi |
And hundred jars of Soma juice.
4.32.36
अस्मत्रा राध एतु ते ||
asmatrā rādha etu te ||
18 We make a hundred of thy kine, yea, and a thousand, hasten nigh:
4.32.37
दश ते कलशानां हिरण्यानाम अधीमहि |
daśa te kalaśānāṃ hiraṇyānām adhīmahi |
So let thy bounty come to us.
4.32.38
भूरिदा असि वर्त्रहन ||
bhūridā asi vṛtrahan ||
19 We have obtained, a gift from thee, ten water-ewers wrought of gold:
4.32.39
भूरिदा भूरि देहि नो मा दभ्रम भूर्य आ भर |
bhūridā bhūri dehi no mā dabhram bhūry ā bhara |
Thou, Vṛtra-slayer, givest much.
4.32.40
भूरि घेद इन्द्र दित्ससि ||
bhūri ghed indra ditsasi ||
20 A bounteous Giver, give us much, bring much and not a trifling gift:
4.32.41
भूरिदा हय असि शरुतः पुरुत्रा शूर वर्त्रहन |
bhūridā hy asi śrutaḥ purutrā śūra vṛtrahan |
Much, Indra, wilt thou fain bestow.
4.32.42
आ नो भजस्व राधसि ||
ā no bhajasva rādhasi ||
21 O Vṛtra-slayer, thou art famed in many a place as bountiful
4.32.43
पर ते बभ्रू विचक्षण शंसामि गोषणो नपात |
pra te babhrū vicakṣaṇa śaṃsāmi ghoṣaṇo napāt |
Hero, thy bounty let us share.
4.32.44
माभ्यां गा अनु शिश्रथः ||
mābhyāṃ ghā anu śiśrathaḥ ||
22 I praise thy pair of Tawny Steeds, wise Son of him who giveth kine
4.32.45
कनीनकेव विद्रधे नवे दरुपदे अर्भके |
kanīnakeva vidradhe nave drupade arbhake |
Terrify not the cows with these.
4.32.46
बभ्रू यामेषु शोभेते ||
babhrū yāmeṣu śobhete ||
23 Like two slight images of girls, unrobed, upon a new-wrought post,
4.32.47
अरम म उस्रयाम्णे ऽरम अनुस्रयाम्णे |
aram ma usrayāmṇe 'ram anusrayāmṇe |
So shine the Bay Steeds in their course.
4.32.48
बभ्रू यामेष्व अस्रिधा ||
babhrū yāmeṣv asridhā ||
24 For me the Bays are ready when I start, or start not, with the dawn, Innocuous in the ways they take.
