5.11.1
जनस्य गोपा अजनिष्ट जाग्र्विर अग्निः सुदक्षः सुविताय नव्यसे |
janasya ghopā ajaniṣṭa jāghṛvir aghniḥ sudakṣaḥ suvitāya navyase |
1. THE watchful Guardian of the people hath been born, Agni, the very strong, for fresh prosperity.
5.11.2
घर्तप्रतीको बर्हता दिविस्प्र्शा दयुमद वि भाति भरतेभ्यः शुचिः ||
ghṛtapratīko bṛhatā divispṛśā dyumad vi bhāti bharatebhyaḥ śuciḥ ||
With oil upon his face, with high heaven-touching flame, he shineth splendidly, pure, for the Bharatas.
5.11.3
यज्ञस्य केतुम परथमम पुरोहितम अग्निं नरस तरिषधस्थे सम ईधिरे |
yajñasya ketum prathamam purohitam aghniṃ naras triṣadhasthe sam īdhire |
2 Ensign of sacrifice, the earliest Household-Priest, the men have kindled Agni in his threefold seat,
5.11.4
इन्द्रेण देवैः सरथं स बर्हिषि सीदन नि होता यजथाय सुक्रतुः ||
indreṇa devaiḥ sarathaṃ sa barhiṣi sīdan ni hotā yajathāya sukratuḥ ||
With Indra and the Gods together on the grass let the wise Priest sit to complete the sacrifice.
5.11.5
असम्म्र्ष्टो जायसे मात्रोः शुचिर मन्द्रः कविर उद अतिष्ठो विवस्वतः |
asammṛṣṭo jāyase mātroḥ śucir mandraḥ kavir ud atiṣṭho vivasvataḥ |
3 Pure , unadorned, from thy two Mothers art thou born: thou camest from Vivasvān as a charming Sage.
5.11.6
घर्तेन तवावर्धयन्न अग्न आहुत धूमस ते केतुर अभवद दिवि शरितः ||
ghṛtena tvāvardhayann aghna āhuta dhūmas te ketur abhavad divi śritaḥ ||
With oil they strengthened thee, O Agni, worshipped God: thy banner was the smoke that mounted to the sky.
5.11.7
अग्निर नो यज्ञम उप वेतु साधुयाग्निं नरो वि भरन्ते गर्हे-गर्हे |
aghnir no yajñam upa vetu sādhuyāghniṃ naro vi bharante ghṛhe-ghṛhe |
4 May Agni graciously come to our sacrifice. The men bear Agni here and there in every house.
5.11.8
अग्निर दूतो अभवद धव्यवाहनो ऽगनिं वर्णाना वर्णते कविक्रतुम ||
aghnir dūto abhavad dhavyavāhano 'ghniṃ vṛṇānā vṛṇate kavikratum ||
He hath become an envoy, bearer of our gifts: electing Agni, men choose one exceeding wise.
5.11.9
तुभ्येदम अग्ने मधुमत्तमं वचस तुभ्यम मनीषा इयम अस्तु शं हर्दे |
tubhyedam aghne madhumattamaṃ vacas tubhyam manīṣā iyam astu śaṃ hṛde |
5 For thee, O Agni, is this sweetest prayer of mine: dear to thy spirit be this product of my thought.
5.11.10
तवां गिरः सिन्धुम इवावनीर महीर आ पर्णन्ति शवसा वर्धयन्ति च ||
tvāṃ ghiraḥ sindhum ivāvanīr mahīr ā pṛṇanti śavasā vardhayanti ca ||
As great streams fill the river so our song of praise fill thee, and make thee yet more mighty in thy strength.
5.11.11
तवाम अग्ने अङगिरसो गुहा हितम अन्व अविन्दञ छिश्रियाणं वने वने |
tvām aghne aṅghiraso ghuhā hitam anv avindañ chiśriyāṇaṃ vane vane |
6 O Agni, the Aṅgirases discovered thee what time thou layest hidden, fleeing back from wood to wood.
5.11.12
स जायसे मथ्यमानः सहो महत तवाम आहुः सहसस पुत्रम अङगिरः ||
sa jāyase mathyamānaḥ saho mahat tvām āhuḥ sahasas putram aṅghiraḥ ||
Thou by attrition art produced as conquering might, and men, O Aṅgiras, call thee the Son of Strength.
