5.35.1
यस ते साधिष्ठो ऽवस इन्द्र करतुष टम आ भर |
yas te sādhiṣṭho 'vasa indra kratuṣ ṭam ā bhara |
1. INDRA, for our assistance bring that most effectual power of thine,
5.35.2
अस्मभ्यं चर्षणीसहं सस्निं वाजेषु दुष्टरम ||
asmabhyaṃ carṣaṇīsahaṃ sasniṃ vājeṣu duṣṭaram ||
Which conquers men for us, and wins the spoil, invincible in fight.
5.35.3
यद इन्द्र ते चतस्रो यच छूर सन्ति तिस्रः |
yad indra te catasro yac chūra santi tisraḥ |
2 Indra, whatever aids be thine, four be they, or, O Hero, three,
5.35.4
यद वा पञ्च कषितीनाम अवस तत सु न आ भर ||
yad vā pañca kṣitīnām avas tat su na ā bhara ||
Or those of the Five Tribes of men, bring quickly all that help to us.
5.35.5
आ ते ऽवो वरेण्यं वर्षन्तमस्य हूमहे |
ā te 'vo vareṇyaṃ vṛṣantamasya hūmahe |
3 The aid most excellent of thee the Mightiest hitherward we call,
5.35.6
वर्षजूतिर हि जज्ञिष आभूभिर इन्द्र तुर्वणिः ||
vṛṣajūtir hi jajñiṣa ābhūbhir indra turvaṇiḥ ||
For thou wast born with hero might, conquering, Indra, with the Strong.
5.35.7
वर्षा हय असि राधसे जज्ञिषे वर्ष्णि ते शवः |
vṛṣā hy asi rādhase jajñiṣe vṛṣṇi te śavaḥ |
4 Mighty to prosper us wast thou born, and mighty is the strength thou hast.
5.35.8
सवक्षत्रं ते धर्षन मनः सत्राहम इन्द्र पौंस्यम ||
svakṣatraṃ te dhṛṣan manaḥ satrāham indra pauṃsyam ||
In native power thy soul is firm: thy valour, Indra, slays a host.
5.35.9
तवं तम इन्द्र मर्त्यम अमित्रयन्तम अद्रिवः |
tvaṃ tam indra martyam amitrayantam adrivaḥ |
5 O Śatakratu, Lord of Strength, O Indra, Caster of the Stone.
5.35.10
सर्वरथा शतक्रतो नि याहि शवसस पते ||
sarvarathā śatakrato ni yāhi śavasas pate ||
With all thy chariot's force assail the man who shows himself thy foe.
5.35.11
तवाम इद वर्त्रहन्तम जनासो वर्क्तबर्हिषः |
tvām id vṛtrahantama janāso vṛktabarhiṣaḥ |
6 For, Mightiest Vṛtra-slayer, thee, fierce, foremost among many, folk
5.35.12
उग्रम पूर्वीषु पूर्व्यं हवन्ते वाजसातये ||
ughram pūrvīṣu pūrvyaṃ havante vājasātaye ||
Whose sacred grass is trimmed invite to battle where the spoil is won.
5.35.13
अस्माकम इन्द्र दुष्टरम पुरोयावानम आजिषु |
asmākam indra duṣṭaram puroyāvānam ājiṣu |
7 Indra, do thou protect our car that mingles foremost in the fights,
5.35.14
सयावानं धने-धने वाजयन्तम अवा रथम ||
sayāvānaṃ dhane-dhane vājayantam avā ratham ||
That bears its part in every fray, invincible and seeking spoil.
5.35.15
अस्माकम इन्द्रेहि नो रथम अवा पुरंध्या |
asmākam indrehi no ratham avā puraṃdhyā |
8 Come to us, Indra, and protect our car with thine intelligence.
5.35.16
वयं शविष्ठ वार्यं दिवि शरवो दधीमहि दिवि सतोमम मनामहे ||
vayaṃ śaviṣṭha vāryaṃ divi śravo dadhīmahi divi stomam manāmahe ||
May we, O Mightiest One, obtain excellent fame at break of day, and meditate our hymn at dawn.
