5.4.1
तवाम अग्ने वसुपतिं वसूनाम अभि पर मन्दे अध्वरेषु राजन |
tvām aghne vasupatiṃ vasūnām abhi pra mande adhvareṣu rājan |
1. O AGNI, King and Lord of wealth and treasures, in thee is my delight at sacrifices.
5.4.2
तवया वाजं वाजयन्तो जयेमाभि षयाम पर्त्सुतीर मर्त्यानाम ||
tvayā vājaṃ vājayanto jayemābhi ṣyāma pṛtsutīr martyānām ||
Through thee may we obtain the strength we long for, and overcome the fierce attacks of mortals.
5.4.3
हव्यवाळ अग्निर अजरः पिता नो विभुर विभावा सुद्र्शीको अस्मे |
havyavāḷ aghnir ajaraḥ pitā no vibhur vibhāvā sudṛśīko asme |
2 Agni, Eternal Father, offering-bearer, fair to behold, far-reaching, far-refulgent,
5.4.4
सुगार्हपत्याः सम इषो दिदीह्य अस्मद्र्यक सम मिमीहि शरवांसि ||
sughārhapatyāḥ sam iṣo didīhy asmadryak sam mimīhi śravāṃsi ||
From well-kept household fire beam food to feed us, and measure out to us abundant glory.
5.4.5
विशां कविं विश्पतिम मानुषीणां शुचिम पावकं घर्तप्र्ष्ठम अग्निम |
viśāṃ kaviṃ viśpatim mānuṣīṇāṃ śucim pāvakaṃ ghṛtapṛṣṭham aghnim |
3 The Sage of men, the Lord of human races, pure, purifying Agni, balmed with butter,
5.4.6
नि होतारं विश्वविदं दधिध्वे स देवेषु वनते वार्याणि ||
ni hotāraṃ viśvavidaṃ dadhidhve sa deveṣu vanate vāryāṇi ||
Him the Omniscient as your Priest ye stablish: he wins among the Gods things worth the choosing.
5.4.7
जुषस्वाग्न इळया सजोषा यतमानो रश्मिभिः सूर्यस्य |
juṣasvāghna iḷayā sajoṣā yatamāno raśmibhiḥ sūryasya |
4 Agni, enjoy, of one accord with Iḷā, striving in rivalry with beams of Sūrya,
5.4.8
जुषस्व नः समिधं जातवेद आ च देवान हविरद्याय वक्षि ||
juṣasva naḥ samidhaṃ jātaveda ā ca devān haviradyāya vakṣi ||
Enjoy, O Jātavedas, this our fuel, and bring the Gods to us to taste oblations.
5.4.9
जुष्टो दमूना अतिथिर दुरोण इमं नो यज्ञम उप याहि विद्वान |
juṣṭo damūnā atithir duroṇa imaṃ no yajñam upa yāhi vidvān |
5 As dear House-Friend, guest welcome in the dwelling, to this our sacrifice come thou who knowest.
5.4.10
विश्वा अग्ने अभियुजो विहत्या शत्रूयताम आ भरा भोजनानि ||
viśvā aghne abhiyujo vihatyā śatrūyatām ā bharā bhojanāni ||
And, Agni, having scattered all assailants, bring to us the possessions of our foemen.
5.4.11
वधेन दस्युम पर हि चातयस्व वयः कर्ण्वानस तन्वे सवायै |
vadhena dasyum pra hi cātayasva vayaḥ kṛṇvānas tanve svāyai |
6 Drive thou away the Dasyu with thy weapon. As, gaining vital power for thine own body,
5.4.12
पिपर्षि यत सहसस पुत्र देवान्त सो अग्ने पाहि नर्तम वाजे अस्मान ||
piparṣi yat sahasas putra devānt so aghne pāhi nṛtama vāje asmān ||
O Son of Strength, the Gods thou satisfiest, so in fight save us, most heroic Agni.
5.4.13
वयं ते अग्न उक्थैर विधेम वयं हव्यैः पावक भद्रशोचे |
vayaṃ te aghna ukthair vidhema vayaṃ havyaiḥ pāvaka bhadraśoce |
7 May we, O Agni, with our lauds adore thee, and with our gifts, fair-beaming Purifier!
5.4.14
अस्मे रयिं विश्ववारं सम इन्वास्मे विश्वानि दरविणानि धेहि ||
asme rayiṃ viśvavāraṃ sam invāsme viśvāni draviṇāni dhehi ||
Send to us wealth containing all things precious: bestow upon us every sort of riches.
5.4.15
अस्माकम अग्ने अध्वरं जुषस्व सहसः सूनो तरिषधस्थ हव्यम |
asmākam aghne adhvaraṃ juṣasva sahasaḥ sūno triṣadhastha havyam |
8 Son of Strength, Agni, dweller in three regions, accept our sacrifice and our oblation.
5.4.16
वयं देवेषु सुक्र्तः सयाम शर्मणा नस तरिवरूथेन पाहि ||
vayaṃ deveṣu sukṛtaḥ syāma śarmaṇā nas trivarūthena pāhi ||
Among the Gods may we be counted pious: protect us with a triply-guarding shelter.
5.4.17
विश्वानि नो दुर्गहा जातवेदः सिन्धुं न नावा दुरिताति पर्षि |
viśvāni no durghahā jātavedaḥ sindhuṃ na nāvā duritāti parṣi |
9 Over all woes and dangers, Jātavedas, bear us as in a boat across a river.
5.4.18
अग्ने अत्रिवन नमसा गर्णानो ऽसमाकम बोध्य अविता तनूनाम ||
aghne atrivan namasā ghṛṇāno 'smākam bodhy avitā tanūnām ||
Praised with our homage even as Atri praised thee, O Agni, be the guardian of our bodies.
5.4.19
यस तवा हर्दा कीरिणा मन्यमानो ऽमर्त्यम मर्त्यो जोहवीमि |
yas tvā hṛdā kīriṇā manyamāno 'martyam martyo johavīmi |
10 As I, remembering thee with grateful spirit, a mortal, call with might on thee Immortal,
5.4.20
जातवेदो यशो अस्मासु धेहि परजाभिर अग्ने अम्र्तत्वम अश्याम ||
jātavedo yaśo asmāsu dhehi prajābhir aghne amṛtatvam aśyām ||
Vouchsafe us high renown, O Jātavedas, and may I be immortal by my children.
5.4.21
यस्मै तवं सुक्र्ते जातवेद उलोकम अग्ने कर्णवः सयोनम |
yasmai tvaṃ sukṛte jātaveda ulokam aghne kṛṇavaḥ syonam |
11 The pious man, O Jātavedas Agni, to whom thou grantest ample room and pleasure,
5.4.22
अश्विनं स पुत्र्णं वीरवन्तं गोमन्तं रयिं नशते सवस्ति ||
aśvinaṃ sa putṛṇaṃ vīravantaṃ ghomantaṃ rayiṃ naśate svasti ||
Gaineth abundant wealth with sons and horses, with heroes and with kine for his well-being.
