5.86.1
इन्द्राग्नी यम अवथ उभा वाजेषु मर्त्यम |
indrāghnī yam avatha ubhā vājeṣu martyam |
1. THE mortal man whom ye, the Twain, Indra and Agni, help in fight,
5.86.2
दर्ळ्हा चित स पर भेदति दयुम्ना वाणीर इव तरितः ||
dṛḷhā cit sa pra bhedati dyumnā vāṇīr iva tritaḥ ||
Breaks through e’en strongly-guarded wealth as Tṛta burst his way through reeds.
5.86.3
या पर्तनासु दुष्टरा या वाजेषु शरवाय्या |
yā pṛtanāsu duṣṭarā yā vājeṣu śravāyyā |
2 The Twain invincible in war, worthy to be renowned in frays,
5.86.4
या पञ्च चर्षणीर अभॄन्द्राग्नी ता हवामहे ||
yā pañca carṣaṇīr abhṝndrāghnī tā havāmahe ||
Lords of the Fivefold. People, these, Indra and Agni, we invoke.
5.86.5
तयोर इद अमवच छवस तिग्मा दिद्युन मघोनोः |
tayor id amavac chavas tighmā didyun maghonoḥ |
3 Impetuous is their strength, and keen the lightning of the mighty Pair,
5.86.6
परति दरुणा गभस्त्योर गवां वर्त्रघ्न एषते ||
prati druṇā ghabhastyor ghavāṃ vṛtraghna eṣate ||
Which from their arms speeds with the car to Vṛtra's slayer for the kine.
5.86.7
ता वाम एषे रथानाम इन्द्राग्नी हवामहे |
tā vām eṣe rathānām indrāghnī havāmahe |
4 Indra and Agni, we invoke you both, as such, to send your cars:
5.86.8
पती तुरस्य राधसो विद्वांसा गिर्वणस्तमा ||
patī turasya rādhaso vidvāṃsā ghirvaṇastamā ||
Lords of quick-coming bounty, ye who know, chief lovers of the song.
5.86.9
ता वर्धन्ताव अनु दयून मर्ताय देवाव अदभा |
tā vṛdhantāv anu dyūn martāya devāv adabhā |
5 These who give increase day by day, Gods without guile for mortal man,
5.86.10
अर्हन्ता चित पुरो दधे ऽंशेव देवाव अर्वते ||
arhantā cit puro dadhe 'ṃśeva devāv arvate ||
Worthy themselves, I honour most, Two Gods as partners, for my horse.
5.86.11
एवेन्द्राग्निभ्याम अहावि हव्यं शूष्यं घर्तं न पूतम अद्रिभिः |
evendrāghnibhyām ahāvi havyaṃ śūṣyaṃ ghṛtaṃ na pūtam adribhiḥ |
6 The strength-bestowing offering thus to Indra-Agni hath been paid, as butter, purified by stones.
5.86.12
ता सूरिषु शरवो बर्हद रयिं गर्णत्सु दिध्र्तम इषं गर्णत्सु दिध्र्तम ||
tā sūriṣu śravo bṛhad rayiṃ ghṛṇatsu didhṛtam iṣaṃ ghṛṇatsu didhṛtam ||
Deal to our princes high renown, deal wealth to those who sing your praise, deal food to those who sing your praise.
