6.15.1
इममू षु वो अतिथिमुषर्बुधं विश्वासां विशां पतिम्र्ञ्जसे गिरा |
imamū ṣu vo atithimuṣarbudhaṃ viśvāsāṃ viśāṃ patimṛñjase ghirā |
1. WITH this my song I strive to reach this guest of yours, who wakes at early morn, the Lord of all the tribes.
6.15.2
वेतीद दिवो जनुषा कच्चिदा शुचिर्ज्योक चिदत्ति गर्भो यदच्युतम ||
vetīd divo januṣā kaccidā śucirjyok cidatti gharbho yadacyutam ||
Each time he comes from heaven, the Pure One from of old: from ancient days the Child cats everlasting food.
6.15.3
मित्रं न यं सुधितं भर्गवो दधुर्वनस्पतावीड्यमूर्ध्वशोचिषम |
mitraṃ na yaṃ sudhitaṃ bhṛghavo dadhurvanaspatāvīḍyamūrdhvaśociṣam |
2 Whom, well-dis sed, the Blirgus stablished as a rriend, whom men must glorify, high-flaming in the wood.
6.15.4
स तवं सुप्रीतो वीतहव्ये अद्भुत परशस्तिभिर्महयसे दिवे दिवे ||
sa tvaṃ suprīto vītahavye adbhuta praśastibhirmahayase dive dive ||
As such, most friendly, thou art every day extolled in lauds by Vitahavya, O thou wondrous God.
6.15.5
स तवं दक्षस्याव्र्को वर्धो भूरर्यः परस्यान्तरस्य तरुषः |
sa tvaṃ dakṣasyāvṛko vṛdho bhūraryaḥ parasyāntarasya taruṣaḥ |
3 Be thou the foeless helper of the skilful man, subduer of the enemy near or far away.
6.15.6
रायः सूनो सहसो मर्त्येष्वा छर्दिर्यछ वीतहव्याय सप्रथो भरद्वाजाय सप्रथः ||
rāyaḥ sūno sahaso martyeṣvā chardiryacha vītahavyāya sapratho bharadvājāya saprathaḥ ||
Bestow a wealthy home on men, O Son of Strength. Give Vitahavya riches spreading far and wide, give Bharadvāja wide-spread wealth.
6.15.7
दयुतानं वो अतिथिं सवर्णरमग्निं होतारं मनुषः सवध्वरम |
dyutānaṃ vo atithiṃ svarṇaramaghniṃ hotāraṃ manuṣaḥ svadhvaram |
4 Him, your refulgent guest, Agni who comes from heaven, the Herald of mankind, well-skilled in sacred rites,
6.15.8
विप्रं न दयुक्षवचसं सुव्र्क्तिभिर्हव्यवाहमरतिं देवं रञ्जसे ||
vipraṃ na dyukṣavacasaṃ suvṛktibhirhavyavāhamaratiṃ devaṃ ṛñjase ||
Who, like a holy singer, utters heavenly words, oblation-bearer, envoy, God, I seek with hymns.
6.15.9
पावकया यश्चितयन्त्या कर्पा कषामन रुरुच उषसो न भानुना |
pāvakayā yaścitayantyā kṛpā kṣāman ruruca uṣaso na bhānunā |
5 Who with his purifying, eye-attracting form hath shone upon the earth as with the light of Dawn;
6.15.10
तूर्वन न यामन्नेतशस्य नू रण आ यो घर्णे न तत्र्षाणो अजरः ||
tūrvan na yāmannetaśasya nū raṇa ā yo ghṛṇe na tatṛṣāṇo ajaraḥ ||
Who speeding on, as in the fight of Etaia, cometh, untouched by age, as one athirst in heat.
6.15.11
अग्निम-अग्निं वः समिधा दुवस्यत परियम-परियं वो अतिथिं गर्णीषणि |
aghnim-aghniṃ vaḥ samidhā duvasyata priyam-priyaṃ vo atithiṃ ghṛṇīṣaṇi |
6 Worship ye Agni, Agni, with your log of wood; praise your beloved, your beloved guest with songs.
6.15.12
उप वो गीर्भिरम्र्तं विवासत देवो देवेषु वनते हि वार्यं देवो देवेषु वनते हि नो दुवः ||
upa vo ghīrbhiramṛtaṃ vivāsata devo deveṣu vanate hi vāryaṃ devo deveṣu vanate hi no duvaḥ ||
Invite ye the Immortal hither with your hymns. A God among the Gods, he loveth what is choice, loveth our service, God mid Gods.
6.15.13
समिद्धमग्निं समिधा गिरा गर्णे शुचिं पावकं पुरो अध्वरे धरुवम |
samiddhamaghniṃ samidhā ghirā ghṛṇe śuciṃ pāvakaṃ puro adhvare dhruvam |
7 Agni inflamed with fuel in my song I sing, pure, Cleanser, steadlast, set in tront at sacrifice.
6.15.14
विप्रं होतारं पुरुवारमद्रुहं कविं सुम्नैरीमहे जातवेदसम ||
vipraṃ hotāraṃ puruvāramadruhaṃ kaviṃ sumnairīmahe jātavedasam ||
Wise Jātavedas we implore with prayers for bliss the Priest, the holy Singer, bounteous, void of guile.
6.15.15
तवां दूतमग्ने अम्र्तं युगे-युगे हव्यवाहं दधिरे पायुमीड्यम |
tvāṃ dūtamaghne amṛtaṃ yughe-yughe havyavāhaṃ dadhire pāyumīḍyam |
8 Men, Agni, in each age have made thee, Deathiess One, their envoy, offering-bearer, guard adorable.
6.15.16
देवासश्च मर्तासश्च जाग्र्विं विभुं विश्पतिं नमसा नि षेदिरे ||
devāsaśca martāsaśca jāghṛviṃ vibhuṃ viśpatiṃ namasā ni ṣedire ||
With reverence Gods and mortals have established thee, the ever-watchful, omnipresent Household Lord.
6.15.17
विभूषन्नग्न उभयाननु वरता दूतो देवानां रजसी समीयसे |
vibhūṣannaghna ubhayānanu vratā dūto devānāṃ rajasī samīyase |
9 Thou, Agni, ordering the works and ways of both, as envoy of the Gods traversest both the worlds.
6.15.18
यत ते धीतिं सुमतिमाव्र्णीमहे.अध समा नस्त्रिवरूथः शिवो भव ||
yat te dhītiṃ sumatimāvṛṇīmahe.adha smā nastrivarūthaḥ śivo bhava ||
When we lay claim to thy regard and gracious fare, be thou to us a thriceprotecting friendly guard.
6.15.19
तं सुप्रतीकं सुद्र्शं सवञ्चमविद्वांसो विदुष्टरं सपेम |
taṃ supratīkaṃ sudṛśaṃ svañcamavidvāṃso viduṣṭaraṃ sapema |
10 Him fair of face, rapid, and fair to look on, him very wise may we who know not follow.
6.15.20
स यक्षद विश्वा वयुनानि विद्वान पर हव्यमग्निरम्र्तेषु वोचत ||
sa yakṣad viśvā vayunāni vidvān pra havyamaghniramṛteṣu vocat ||
Let him who knows all rules invite for worship, Agru announce our offering to the Immortals.
6.15.21
तमग्ने पास्युत तं पिपर्षि यस्त आनट कवये शूर धीतिम |
tamaghne pāsyuta taṃ piparṣi yasta ānaṭ kavaye śūra dhītim |
11 Him, Agni, thou deliverest and savest who brings him prayer to thee the Wise, O Hero,
6.15.22
यज्ञस्य वा निशितिं वोदितिं वा तमित पर्णक्षि शवसोत राया ||
yajñasya vā niśitiṃ voditiṃ vā tamit pṛṇakṣi śavasota rāyā ||
The end of sacrifice or its inception; yea, thou endowest him with power and riches.
6.15.23
तवमग्ने वनुष्यतो नि पाहि तवमु नः सहसावन्नवद्यात |
tvamaghne vanuṣyato ni pāhi tvamu naḥ sahasāvannavadyāt |
12 Guard us from him who would assail us, Agni; preserve us, O thou Victor, from dishonour.
6.15.24
सं तवा धवस्मन्वदभ्येतु पाथः सं रयि सप्र्हयाय्यःसहस्री ||
saṃ tvā dhvasmanvadabhyetu pāthaḥ saṃ rayi spṛhayāyyaḥsahasrī ||
Here let the place of darkening come upon thee: may wealth be ours, desirable in thousands.
6.15.25
अग्निर्होता गर्हपतिः स राजा विश्वा वेद जनिमा जातवेदः |
aghnirhotā ghṛhapatiḥ sa rājā viśvā veda janimā jātavedaḥ |
13 Agni, the Priest, is King, Lord of the homestead, he, Jatayedas, knows all generations.
6.15.26
देवानामुत यो मर्त्यानां यजिष्ठः स पर यजतां रतावा ||
devānāmuta yo martyānāṃ yajiṣṭhaḥ sa pra yajatāṃ ṛtāvā ||
Most skilful worshipper mid Gods and mortals, may he begin the sacrifice, the Holy.
6.15.27
अग्ने यदद्य विशो अध्वरस्य होतः पावकशोचे वेष टवं हि यज्वा |
aghne yadadya viśo adhvarasya hotaḥ pāvakaśoce veṣ ṭvaṃ hi yajvā |
14 Whate’er to-day thou, bright-flamed Priest, enjoyest from the man's rite-for thou art sacrificer-
6.15.28
रता यजासि महिना वि यद भूर्हव्या वह यविष्ठ या ते अद्य ||
ṛtā yajāsi mahinā vi yad bhūrhavyā vaha yaviṣṭha yā te adya ||
Worship, for duly dost thou spread in greatness: bear off thine ofrerings of to-day, Most Youthful.
6.15.29
अभि परयांसि सुधितानि हि खयो नि तवा दधीत रोदसी यजध्यै |
abhi prayāṃsi sudhitāni hi khyo ni tvā dadhīta rodasī yajadhyai |
15 Look thou upon the viands duly laid for thee. Fain would he set thee here to worship Heaven and,Earth.
6.15.30
अवा नो मघवन वाजसातावग्ने विश्वानि दुरिता तरेम ता तरेम तवावसा तरेम ||
avā no maghavan vājasātāvaghne viśvāni duritā tarema tā tarema tavāvasā tarema ||
Help us, O liberal Agni, in the strife for spoil, so that we may o’ercome all things that trouble us, o’ercome, o’ercome them with thy help.
6.15.31
अग्ने विश्वेभिः सवनीक देवैरूर्णावन्तं परथमः सीद योनिम |
aghne viśvebhiḥ svanīka devairūrṇāvantaṃ prathamaḥ sīda yonim |
16 Together with all Gods, O fair-faced Agni, be seated first upon the woollined altar,
6.15.32
कुलायिनं घर्तवन्तं सवित्रे यज्ञं नय यजमानाय साधु ||
kulāyinaṃ ghṛtavantaṃ savitre yajñaṃ naya yajamānāya sādhu ||
Nest-like, bedewed with oil. Bear this our worship to Savitar who sacrifices rightly.
6.15.33
इममु तयमथर्ववदग्निं मन्थन्ति वेधसः |
imamu tyamatharvavadaghniṃ manthanti vedhasaḥ |
17 Here the arranging priests, as did Atharvan, rub this Agni forth,
6.15.34
यमङकूयन्तमानयन्नमूरं शयाव्याभ्यः ||
yamaṅkūyantamānayannamūraṃ śyāvyābhyaḥ ||
Whom, not bewildered, as he moved in winding ways, they brought from gloom.
6.15.35
जनिष्वा देववीतये सर्वताता सवस्तये |
janiṣvā devavītaye sarvatātā svastaye |
18 For the Gods’ banquet be thou born, for full perfection and for weal.
6.15.36
आ देवान वक्ष्यम्र्तान रताव्र्धो यज्ञं देवेषु पिस्प्र्शः ||
ā devān vakṣyamṛtān ṛtāvṛdho yajñaṃ deveṣu pispṛśaḥ ||
Bring the Immortal Gods who strengthen holy Law: so let our sacrifice reach the Gods.
6.15.37
वयमु तवा गर्हपते जनानामग्ने अकर्म समिधा बर्हन्तम |
vayamu tvā ghṛhapate janānāmaghne akarma samidhā bṛhantam |
19 O Agni, Lord and Master of men's homesteads, with kindled fuel we have made thee mighty.
6.15.38
अस्थूरि नो गार्हपत्यानि सन्तु तिग्मेन नस्तेजसा सं शिशाधि ||
asthūri no ghārhapatyāni santu tighmena nastejasā saṃ śiśādhi ||
Let not our household gear be found defective. Sharpen us with thy penetrating splendour.
