6.2.1
तवं हि कषैतवद यशो.अग्ने मित्रो न पत्यसे |
tvaṃ hi kṣaitavad yaśo.aghne mitro na patyase |
1. THOU, Agni, even as Mitra, hast a princely glory of thine own.
6.2.2
तवं विचर्षणे शरवो वसो पुष्टिं न पुष्यसि ||
tvaṃ vicarṣaṇe śravo vaso puṣṭiṃ na puṣyasi ||
Thou, active Vasu, makest fame increase like full prosperity.
6.2.3
तवां हि षमा चर्षणयो यज्ञेभिर्गीर्भिरीळते |
tvāṃ hi ṣmā carṣaṇayo yajñebhirghīrbhirīḷate |
2 For, verily, men pray to thee with sacrifices and with songs.
6.2.4
तवां वाजी यात्यव्र्को रजस्तूर्विश्वचर्षणिः ||
tvāṃ vājī yātyavṛko rajastūrviśvacarṣaṇiḥ ||
To thee the Friendly Courser, seen of all, comes speeding through the air.
6.2.5
सजोषस्त्वा दिवो नरो यज्ञस्य केतुमिन्धते |
sajoṣastvā divo naro yajñasya ketumindhate |
3 Of one accord men kindle thee Heaven's signal of the sacrifice,
6.2.6
यद ध सय मानुषो जनः सुम्नायुर्जुह्वे अध्वरे ||
yad dha sya mānuṣo janaḥ sumnāyurjuhve adhvare ||
When, craving bliss, this race of man invites thee to the solemn rite.
6.2.7
रधद यस्ते सुदानवे धिया मर्तः शशमते |
ṛdhad yaste sudānave dhiyā martaḥ śaśamate |
4 Let the man thrive who travails sore, in prayer, far thee the Bountiful.
6.2.8
ऊती ष बर्हतो दिवो दविषो अंहो न तरति ||
ūtī ṣa bṛhato divo dviṣo aṃho na tarati ||
He with the help of lofty Dyaus comes safe through straits of enmity.
6.2.9
समिधा यस्त आहुतिं निशितिं मर्त्यो नशत |
samidhā yasta āhutiṃ niśitiṃ martyo naśat |
5 The mortal who with fuel lights thy flame and offers unto thee,
6.2.10
वयावन्तंस पुष्यति कषयमग्ने शतायुषम ||
vayāvantaṃsa puṣyati kṣayamaghne śatāyuṣam ||
Supports a house with many a branch, Agni, to live a hundred years.
6.2.11
तवेषस्ते धूम रण्वति दिवि षञ्छुक्र आततः |
tveṣaste dhūma ṛṇvati divi ṣañchukra ātataḥ |
6 Thy bright smoke lifts itself aloft, and far-extended shines in heaven.
6.2.12
सूरो न हि दयुता तवं कर्पा पावक रोचसे ||
sūro na hi dyutā tvaṃ kṛpā pāvaka rocase ||
For, Purifier! like the Sun thou beamest with thy radiant glow.
6.2.13
अधा हि विक्ष्वीड्यो.असि परियो नो अतिथिः |
adhā hi vikṣvīḍyo.asi priyo no atithiḥ |
7 For in men's houses thou must be glorified as a well-loved guest,
6.2.14
रण्वः पुरीव जूर्यः सूनुर्न तरययाय्यः ||
raṇvaḥ purīva jūryaḥ sūnurna trayayāyyaḥ ||
Gay like an elder in a fort, claiming protection like a son.
6.2.15
करत्वा हि दरोणे अज्यसे.अग्ने वाजी न कर्त्व्यः |
kratvā hi droṇe ajyase.aghne vājī na kṛtvyaḥ |
8 Thou, Agni, like an able steed, art urged by wisdom in the wood.
6.2.16
परिज्मेवस्वधा गयो.अत्यो न हवार्यः शिशुः ||
parijmevasvadhā ghayo.atyo na hvāryaḥ śiśuḥ ||
Thou art like wind; food, home art thou, like a young horse that runs astray.
6.2.17
तवं तया चिदच्युताग्ने पशुर्न यवसे |
tvaṃ tyā cidacyutāghne paśurna yavase |
9 E’en things imperishable, thou, O Agni, like a gazing ox,
6.2.18
धामा ह यत ते अजर वना वर्श्चन्ति शिक्वसः ||
dhāmā ha yat te ajara vanā vṛścanti śikvasaḥ ||
Eatest, when hosts, Eternal One! of thee the Mighty rend the woods.
6.2.19
वेषि हयध्वरीयतामग्ने होता दमे विशाम |
veṣi hyadhvarīyatāmaghne hotā dame viśām |
10 Agni, thou enterest as Priest the home of men who sacrifice.
6.2.20
सम्र्धो विश्पते कर्णु जुषस्व हव्यमङगिरः ||
samṛdho viśpate kṛṇu juṣasva havyamaṅghiraḥ ||
Lord of the people, prosper them. Accept the ofrering, Aṅgiras!
6.2.21
अछा नो मित्रमहो देव देवानग्ने वोचः सुमतिं रोदस्योः |
achā no mitramaho deva devānaghne vocaḥ sumatiṃ rodasyoḥ |
11 O Agni, God with Mitra's might, call hither the favour of the Gods from earth and heaven.
6.2.22
वीहि सवस्तिं सुक्षितिं दिवो नॄन दविषो अंहांसि दुरितातरेम ता तरेम तवावसा तरेम ||
vīhi svastiṃ sukṣitiṃ divo nṝn dviṣo aṃhāṃsi duritātarema tā tarema tavāvasā tarema ||
Bring weal from heaven, that men may dwell securely. May we o’ercome the foe's malign oppressions, may we o’ercome them, through thy help o’ercome them.
