6.22.1
य एक इद धव्यश्चर्षणीनामिन्द्रं तं गीर्भिरभ्यर्च आभिः |
ya eka id dhavyaścarṣaṇīnāmindraṃ taṃ ghīrbhirabhyarca ābhiḥ |
1. WITH these my hymns I glorify that Indra who is alone to be invoked by mortals,
6.22.2
यः पत्यते वर्षभो वर्ष्ण्यावान सत्यः सत्वा पुरुमायः सहस्वान ||
yaḥ patyate vṛṣabho vṛṣṇyāvān satyaḥ satvā purumāyaḥ sahasvān ||
The Lord, the Mighty One, of manly vigour, victorious, Hero, true, and full of wisdom.
6.22.3
तमु नः पूर्वे पितरो नवग्वाः सप्त विप्रासो अभि वाजयन्तः |
tamu naḥ pūrve pitaro navaghvāḥ sapta viprāso abhi vājayantaḥ |
2 Our sires of old,. Navagvas, sages seven, while urging him to show his might, extolled him,
6.22.4
नक्षद्दाभं ततुरिं पर्वतेष्ठामद्रोघवाचं मतिभिः शविष्ठम ||
nakṣaddābhaṃ taturiṃ parvateṣṭhāmadroghavācaṃ matibhiḥ śaviṣṭham ||
Dwelling on heights, swift, smiting down opponents, guileless in word, and in his thoughts most mighty.
6.22.5
तमीमह इन्द्रमस्य रायः पुरुवीरस्य नर्वतः पुरुक्षोः |
tamīmaha indramasya rāyaḥ puruvīrasya nṛvataḥ purukṣoḥ |
3 We seek that Indra to obtain his riches that bring much food, and men, and store of heroes.
6.22.6
यो अस्क्र्धोयुरजरः सवर्वान तमा भर हरिवो मादयध्यै ||
yo askṛdhoyurajaraḥ svarvān tamā bhara harivo mādayadhyai ||
Bring us, Lord of Bay Steeds, to make us joyful, celestial wealth, abundant, undecaying.
6.22.7
तन नो वि वोचो यदि ते पुरा चिज्जरितार आनशुः सुम्नमिन्द्र |
tan no vi voco yadi te purā cijjaritāra ānaśuḥ sumnamindra |
4 Tell thou us this, if at thy hand aforetime the earlier singers have obtained good fortune,
6.22.8
कस्ते भागः किं वयो दुध्र खिद्वः पुरुहूत पुरूवसो.असुरघ्नः ||
kaste bhāghaḥ kiṃ vayo dudhra khidvaḥ puruhūta purūvaso.asuraghnaḥ ||
What is thy share and portion, Strong Subduer, Asura-slayer, rich, invoked of many?
6.22.9
तं पर्छन्ती वज्रहस्तं रथेष्ठामिन्द्रं वेपी वक्वरीयस्य नू गीः |
taṃ pṛchantī vajrahastaṃ ratheṣṭhāmindraṃ vepī vakvarīyasya nū ghīḥ |
5 He who for car-borne Indra, armed with thunder, hath a hymn, craving, deeply-piercing, fluent,
6.22.10
तुविग्राभं तुविकूर्मिं रभोदां गातुमिषे नक्षते तुम्रमछ ||
tuvighrābhaṃ tuvikūrmiṃ rabhodāṃ ghātumiṣe nakṣate tumramacha ||
Who sends a song effectual, firmly-grasping, and strength-bestowing, he comes near the mighty.
6.22.11
अया ह तयं मायया वाव्र्धानं मनोजुवा सवतवः पर्वतेन |
ayā ha tyaṃ māyayā vāvṛdhānaṃ manojuvā svatavaḥ parvatena |
6 Strong of thyself, thou by this art hast shattered, with thought-swift Parvata, him who waxed against thee,
6.22.12
अच्युता चिद वीळिता सवोजो रुजो वि दर्ळ्हा धर्षता विरप्शिन ||
acyutā cid vīḷitā svojo rujo vi dṛḷhā dhṛṣatā virapśin ||
And, Mightiest! roaring! boldly rent in pieces things that were firmly fixed and never shaken.
6.22.13
तं वो धिया नव्यस्या शविष्ठं परत्नं परत्नवत परितंसयध्यै |
taṃ vo dhiyā navyasyā śaviṣṭhaṃ pratnaṃ pratnavat paritaṃsayadhyai |
7 Him will we fit for you with new devotion, the strongest Ancient One, in ancient manner.
6.22.14
स नो वक्षदनिमानः सुवह्मेन्द्रो विश्वान्यतिदुर्गहाणि ||
sa no vakṣadanimānaḥ suvahmendro viśvānyatidurghahāṇi ||
So may that Indra, boundless, faithful Leader, conduct us o’er all places hard to traverse.
6.22.15
आ जनाय दरुह्वणे पार्थिवानि दिव्यानि दीपयो.अन्तरिक्षा |
ā janāya druhvaṇe pārthivāni divyāni dīpayo.antarikṣā |
8 Thou for the people who oppress hast kindled the earthly firmament and that of heaven.
6.22.16
तपा वर्षन विश्वतः शोचिषा तान बरह्मद्विषे शोचय कषामपश्च ||
tapā vṛṣan viśvataḥ śociṣā tān brahmadviṣe śocaya kṣāmapaśca ||
With heat, O Bull, on every side consume them: heat earth and flood for him who hates devotion.
6.22.17
भुवो जनस्य दिव्यस्य राजा पार्थिवस्य जगतस्त्वेषसन्द्र्क |
bhuvo janasya divyasya rājā pārthivasya jaghatastveṣasandṛk |
9 Of all the Heavenly Folk, of earthly creatures thou art the King, O God of splendid aspect.
6.22.18
धिष्व वज्रं दक्षिण इन्द्र हस्ते विश्वा अजुर्य दयसे वि मायाः ||
dhiṣva vajraṃ dakṣiṇa indra haste viśvā ajurya dayase vi māyāḥ ||
In thy right hand, O Indra, grasp die thunder: Eternal! thou destroyest all enchantments.
6.22.19
आ संयतमिन्द्र णः सवस्तिं शत्रुतूर्याय बर्हतीमम्र्ध्राम |
ā saṃyatamindra ṇaḥ svastiṃ śatrutūryāya bṛhatīmamṛdhrām |
10 Give us confirmed prosperity, O Indra, vast and exhaustless for the foe's subduing.
6.22.20
यया दासान्यार्याणि वर्त्रा करो वज्रिन सुतुका नाहुषाणि ||
yayā dāsānyāryāṇi vṛtrā karo vajrin sutukā nāhuṣāṇi ||
Strengthen therewith the Ārya's hate and Dāsa's, and let the arms of Nahusas be mighty.
6.22.21
स नो नियुद्भिः पुरुहूत वेधो विश्ववाराभिरा गहि परयज्यो |
sa no niyudbhiḥ puruhūta vedho viśvavārābhirā ghahi prayajyo |
11 Come with thy team which brings all blessings hither, Disposer, much-invoked, exceeding holy.
6.22.22
न या अदेवो वरते न देव आभिर्याहि तूयमा मद्र्यद्रिक ||
na yā adevo varate na deva ābhiryāhi tūyamā madryadrik ||
Thou whom no fiend, no God can stay or hinder, come swittly with these Steeds in my direction.
