6.44.1
यो रयिवो रयिन्तमो यो दयुम्नैर्द्युम्नवत्तमः |
yo rayivo rayintamo yo dyumnairdyumnavattamaḥ |
1. THAT which is wealthiest, Wealthy God in splendoursmost illustrious,
6.44.2
सोमः सुतः स इन्द्र ते.अस्ति सवधापते मदः ||
somaḥ sutaḥ sa indra te.asti svadhāpate madaḥ ||
Soma is pressed: thy gladdening draught, Indra! libation's Lord! is this.
6.44.3
यः शग्मस्तुविशग्म ते रायो दामा मतीनाम |
yaḥ śaghmastuviśaghma te rāyo dāmā matīnām |
2 Effectual, Most Effectual One! thine, as bestowing wealth of hymns,
6.44.4
सोमः सुतः ... ||
somaḥ sutaḥ ... ||
Soma is pressed: thy gladdening draught, Indra! libation's Lord! is this.
6.44.5
येन वर्द्धो न शवसा तुरो न सवाभिरूतिभिः |
yena vṛddho na śavasā turo na svābhirūtibhiḥ |
3 Wherewith thou art increased in strength, and conquerest with thy proper aids,
6.44.6
सोमः सुतः ... ||
somaḥ sutaḥ ... ||
Soma is pressed: thy gladdening draught, Indra! libation's Lord! is this.
6.44.7
तयमु वो अप्रहणं गर्णीषे शवसस पतिम |
tyamu vo aprahaṇaṃ ghṛṇīṣe śavasas patim |
4 Him for your sake I glorify as Lord of Strength who wrongeth none,
6.44.8
इन्द्रं विश्वासाहं नरं मंहिष्ठं विश्वचर्षणिम ||
indraṃ viśvāsāhaṃ naraṃ maṃhiṣṭhaṃ viśvacarṣaṇim ||
The Hero Indra, conquering all, Most Bounteous, God of all the tribes.
6.44.9
यं वर्धयन्तीद गिरः पतिं तुरस्य राधसः |
yaṃ vardhayantīd ghiraḥ patiṃ turasya rādhasaḥ |
5 Those Goddesses, both Heaven and Earth, revere the power and might of him,
6.44.10
तमिन्न्वस्य रोदसी देवी शुष्मं सपर्यतः ||
taminnvasya rodasī devī śuṣmaṃ saparyataḥ ||
Him whom our songs increase in strength, the Lord of bounty swift to come.
6.44.11
तद व उक्थस्य बर्हणेन्द्रायोपस्त्र्णीषणि |
tad va ukthasya barhaṇendrāyopastṛṇīṣaṇi |
6 To seat your Indra, I will spread abroad with power this song of praise.
6.44.12
विपो न यस्योतयो वि यद रोहन्ति सक्षितः ||
vipo na yasyotayo vi yad rohanti sakṣitaḥ ||
The saving succours that abide in him, like songs, extend and grow.
6.44.13
अविदद दक्षं मित्रो नवीयान पपानो देवेभ्यो वस्यो अचैत |
avidad dakṣaṃ mitro navīyān papāno devebhyo vasyo acait |
7 A recent Friend, he found the skilful priest: he drank, and showed forth treasure from the Gods.
6.44.14
ससवान सतौलाभिर्धौतरीभिरुरुष्या पायुरभवत सखिभ्यः ||
sasavān staulābhirdhautarībhiruruṣyā pāyurabhavat sakhibhyaḥ ||
He conquered, borne by strong all-shaking mares, and was with far-spread power his friends' Protector.
6.44.15
रतस्य पथि वेधा अपायि शरिये मनांसि देवासो अक्रन |
ṛtasya pathi vedhā apāyi śriye manāṃsi devāso akran |
8 In course of Law the sapient juice was quaffed: the Deities to glory turned their mind.
6.44.16
दधानो नाम महो वचोभिर्वपुर्द्र्शये वेन्यो वयावः ||
dadhāno nāma maho vacobhirvapurdṛśaye venyo vyāvaḥ ||
Winning through hymns a lofty title, he, the Lovely, made his beauteous form apparent.
6.44.17
दयुमत्तमं दक्षं धेह्यस्मे सेधा जनानां पूर्वीररातीः |
dyumattamaṃ dakṣaṃ dhehyasme sedhā janānāṃ pūrvīrarātīḥ |
9 Bestow on us the most illustrious strength ward off men's manifold malignities.
6.44.18
वर्षीयो वयः कर्णुहि शचीभिर्धनस्य सातावस्मानविड्ढि ||
varṣīyo vayaḥ kṛṇuhi śacībhirdhanasya sātāvasmānaviḍḍhi ||
Give with thy might abundant vital force, and aid us graciously in gaining riches.
6.44.19
इन्द्र तुभ्यमिन मघवन्नभूम वयं दात्रे हरिवो मा विवेनः |
indra tubhyamin maghavannabhūma vayaṃ dātre harivo mā vivenaḥ |
10 We turn to thee as Giver, liberal Indra. Lord of the Bay Steeds, be not thou ungracious.
6.44.20
नकिरापिर्दद्र्शे मर्त्यत्रा किमङग रध्रचोदनन्त्वाहुः ||
nakirāpirdadṛśe martyatrā kimaṅgha radhracodanantvāhuḥ ||
No friend among mankind have we to lookto: why have men called thee him who spurs the niggard?
6.44.21
मा जस्वने वर्षभ नो ररीथा मा ते रेवतः सख्ये रिषाम |
mā jasvane vṛṣabha no rarīthā mā te revataḥ sakhye riṣāma |
11 Give us not up, Strong Hero! to the hungry: unharmed be we whom thou, so rich, befriendest.
6.44.22
पूर्वीष ट इन्द्र निष्षिधो जनेषु जह्यसुष्वीन पर वर्हाप्र्णतः ||
pūrvīṣ ṭa indra niṣṣidho janeṣu jahyasuṣvīn pra vṛhāpṛṇataḥ ||
Full many a boon hast thou for men demolish those who present no gifts nor pour oblations.
6.44.23
उदभ्राणीव सतनयन्नियर्तीन्द्रो राधांस्यश्व्यानि गव्या |
udabhrāṇīva stanayanniyartīndro rādhāṃsyaśvyāni ghavyā |
12 As Indra thundering impels the rain-clouds, so doth he send us store of kine and horses.
6.44.24
तवमसि परदिवः कारुधाया मा तवादामान आ दभन्मघोनः ||
tvamasi pradivaḥ kārudhāyā mā tvādāmāna ā dabhanmaghonaḥ ||
Thou art of old the Cherisher of singers let not the rich who bring no gifts deceive thee.
6.44.25
अध्वर्यो वीर पर महे सुतानामिन्द्राय भर स हयस्य राजा |
adhvaryo vīra pra mahe sutānāmindrāya bhara sa hyasya rājā |
13 Adbyaryu, hero, bring to mighty Indrafor he is King thereof-the pressed-out juices;
6.44.26
यः पूर्व्याभिरुत नूतनाभिर्गीर्भिर्वाव्र्धे गर्णतां रषीणाम ||
yaḥ pūrvyābhiruta nūtanābhirghīrbhirvāvṛdhe ghṛṇatāṃ ṛṣīṇām ||
To him exalted by the hymns and praises, ancient and modern, of the singing Ṛṣis.
6.44.27
अस्य मदे पुरु वर्पांसि विद्वानिन्द्रो वर्त्राण्यप्रती जघान |
asya made puru varpāṃsi vidvānindro vṛtrāṇyapratī jaghāna |
14 In the wild joy of this hath Indra, knowing full many a form, struck down resistless Vṛtras.
6.44.28
तमु पर होषि मधुमन्तमस्मै सोमं वीराय शिप्रिणे पिबध्यै ||
tamu pra hoṣi madhumantamasmai somaṃ vīrāya śipriṇe pibadhyai ||
Proclaim aloud to him the savoury Soma so that the Hero, strong of jaw, may drink it.
6.44.29
पाता सुतमिन्द्रो अस्तु सोमं हन्ता वर्त्रं वज्रेण मन्दसानः |
pātā sutamindro astu somaṃ hantā vṛtraṃ vajreṇa mandasānaḥ |
15 May Indra drink this Soma poured to please him, and cheered therewith slay Vṛtra with his thunder.
6.44.30
गन्ता यज्ञं परावतश्चिदछा वसुर्धीनामविता कारुधायाः ||
ghantā yajñaṃ parāvataścidachā vasurdhīnāmavitā kārudhāyāḥ ||
Come to our sacrifice even from a distance, good lover of our songs, the bard's Supporter.
6.44.31
इदं तयत पात्रमिन्द्रपानमिन्द्रस्य परियमम्र्तमपायि |
idaṃ tyat pātramindrapānamindrasya priyamamṛtamapāyi |
16 The cup whence Indra drinks the draught is present: the Amṛta dear to Indra hath been drunken,
6.44.32
मत्सद यथा सौमनसाय देवं वयस्मद दवेषो युयवद वयंहः ||
matsad yathā saumanasāya devaṃ vyasmad dveṣo yuyavad vyaṃhaḥ ||
That it may cheer the God to gracious favour, and keep far from us hatred and affliction.
6.44.33
एना मन्दानो जहि शूर शत्रूञ जामिमजामिं मघवन्नमित्रान |
enā mandāno jahi śūra śatrūñ jāmimajāmiṃ maghavannamitrān |
17 Therewith enraptured, Hero, slay our foemen, the unfriendly, Maghavan be they kin or strangers,
6.44.34
अभिषेणानभ्यादेदिशानान पराच इन्द्र पर मर्णाजही च ||
abhiṣeṇānabhyādediśānān parāca indra pra mṛṇājahī ca ||
Those who still aim their hostile darts to smite us, turn them to flight, O Indra, crush and kill them.
6.44.35
आसु षमा णो मघवन्निन्द्र पर्त्स्वस्मभ्यं महि वरिवः सुगं कः |
āsu ṣmā ṇo maghavannindra pṛtsvasmabhyaṃ mahi varivaḥ sughaṃ kaḥ |
18 O Indra Maghavan, in these our battles win easy paths for us and ample freedom.
6.44.36
अपां तोकस्य तनयस्य जेष इन्द्र सूरीन कर्णुहिस्मा नो अर्धम ||
apāṃ tokasya tanayasya jeṣa indra sūrīn kṛṇuhismā no ardham ||
That we may gain waters and seed and offspring, set thou our princes on thy side, O Indra.
6.44.37
आ तवा हरयो वर्षणो युजाना वर्षरथासो वर्षरश्मयो.अत्याः |
ā tvā harayo vṛṣaṇo yujānā vṛṣarathāso vṛṣaraśmayo.atyāḥ |
19 Let thy Bay Stallions, harnessed, bring thee hither, Steeds with strong chariot and strong reins to hold them,
6.44.38
अस्मत्राञ्चो वर्षणो वज्रवाहो वर्ष्णे मदाय सुयुजोवहन्तु ||
asmatrāñco vṛṣaṇo vajravāho vṛṣṇe madāya suyujovahantu ||
Strong Horses, speeding hither, bearing thunder, well-harnessed, for the strong exciting potion.
6.44.39
आ ते वर्षन वर्षणो दरोणमस्थुर्घ्र्तप्रुषो नोर्मयो मदन्तः |
ā te vṛṣan vṛṣaṇo droṇamasthurghṛtapruṣo normayo madantaḥ |
20 Beside the vat, Strong God! stand thy strong Horses, shining with holy oil, like waves exulting.
6.44.40
इन्द्र पर तुभ्यं वर्षभिः सुतानां वर्ष्णे भरन्तिव्र्षभाय सोमम ||
indra pra tubhyaṃ vṛṣabhiḥ sutānāṃ vṛṣṇe bharantivṛṣabhāya somam ||
Indra, they bring to thee, the Strong and Mighty, Soma of juices shed by mighty press-stones.
6.44.41
वर्षासि दिवो वर्षभः पर्थिव्या वर्षा सिन्धूनां वर्षभस्तियानाम |
vṛṣāsi divo vṛṣabhaḥ pṛthivyā vṛṣā sindhūnāṃ vṛṣabhastiyānām |
21 Thou art the Bull of earth, the Bull of heaven, Bull of the rivers, Bull of standing waters.
6.44.42
वर्ष्णे त इन्दुर्व्र्षभ पीपाय सवादू रसो मधुपेयो वराय ||
vṛṣṇe ta indurvṛṣabha pīpāya svādū raso madhupeyo varāya ||
For thee, the Strong, O Bull, hath Indu swollen. juice pleasant, sweet to drink, for thine election.
6.44.43
अयं देवः सहसा जायमान इन्द्रेण युजा पणिमस्तभायत |
ayaṃ devaḥ sahasā jāyamāna indreṇa yujā paṇimastabhāyat |
22 This God, with might, when first he had his being, with Indra for ally, held fast the Paṇi.
6.44.44
अयं सवस्य पितुरायुधानीन्दुरमुष्णादशिवस्य मायाः ||
ayaṃ svasya piturāyudhānīnduramuṣṇādaśivasya māyāḥ ||
This Indu stole away the warlike weapons, and foiled the arts of his malignant father.
6.44.45
अयमक्र्णोदुषसः सुपत्नीरयं सूर्ये अदधाज्ज्योतिरन्तः |
ayamakṛṇoduṣasaḥ supatnīrayaṃ sūrye adadhājjyotirantaḥ |
23 The Dawns he wedded to a glorious Consort, and set within the Sun the light that lights him.
6.44.46
अयं तरिधातु दिवि रोचनेषु तरितेषु विन्ददम्र्तं निगूळ्हम ||
ayaṃ tridhātu divi rocaneṣu triteṣu vindadamṛtaṃ nighūḷham ||
He found in heaven, in the third lucid regions, the threefold Amṛta in its close concealment.
6.44.47
अयं दयावाप्र्थिवी वि षकभायदयं रथमयुनक सप्तरश्मिम |
ayaṃ dyāvāpṛthivī vi ṣkabhāyadayaṃ rathamayunak saptaraśmim |
24 He stayed and held the heaven and earth asunder: the chariot with the sevenfold reins he harnessed.
6.44.48
अयं गोषु शच्या पक्वमन्तः सोमो दाधार दशयन्त्रमुत्सम ||
ayaṃ ghoṣu śacyā pakvamantaḥ somo dādhāra daśayantramutsam ||
This Soma Set with power within the milch-kine a spring whose ripe contents ten fingers empty.
