6.45.1
य आनयत परावतः सुनीती तुर्वशं यदुम |
ya ānayat parāvataḥ sunītī turvaśaṃ yadum |
1. THAT Indra is our youthful Friend, who with his trusty guidance led
6.45.2
इन्द्रः सनो युवा सखा ||
indraḥ sano yuvā sakhā ||
Turvaśa, Yadu from afar.
6.45.3
अविप्रे चिद वयो दधदनाशुना चिदर्वता |
avipre cid vayo dadhadanāśunā cidarvatā |
2 Even to the dull and uninspired Indra, gives vital power, and wins
6.45.4
इन्द्रो जेता हितं धनम ||
indro jetā hitaṃ dhanam ||
Even with slow steed the offered prize.
6.45.5
महीरस्य परणीतयः पूर्वीरुत परशस्तयः |
mahīrasya praṇītayaḥ pūrvīruta praśastayaḥ |
3 Great are his ways of guiding us, andṅanilbld are Ins eulogies:
6.45.6
नास्य कषीयन्त ऊतयः ||
nāsya kṣīyanta ūtayaḥ ||
His kind protections never fail.
6.45.7
सखायो बरह्मवाहसे.अर्चत पर च गायत |
sakhāyo brahmavāhase.arcata pra ca ghāyata |
4 Friends, sing your psalm and offer praise to him to whom the prayer is brought:
6.45.8
स हि नः परमतिर्मही ||
sa hi naḥ pramatirmahī ||
For our great Providence is he.
6.45.9
तवमेकस्य वर्त्रहन्नविता दवयोरसि |
tvamekasya vṛtrahannavitā dvayorasi |
5 Thou, Slaughterer of Vṛtra, art Guardian and Friend of one and two,
6.45.10
उतेद्र्शे यथा वयम ||
utedṛśe yathā vayam ||
Yea, of a man like one of us.
6.45.11
नयसीद वति दविषः कर्णोष्युक्थशंसिनः |
nayasīd vati dviṣaḥ kṛṇoṣyukthaśaṃsinaḥ |
6 Beyond men's hate thou leadest us, and givest cause to sing thy praise:
6.45.12
नर्भिः सुवीर उच्यसे ||
nṛbhiḥ suvīra ucyase ||
Good hero art thou called by men.
6.45.13
बरह्माणं बरह्मवाहसं गीर्भिः सखायं रग्मियम |
brahmāṇaṃ brahmavāhasaṃ ghīrbhiḥ sakhāyaṃ ṛghmiyam |
7 I call with hymns, as ’twere a cow to milk, the Friend who merits praise,
6.45.14
गांन दोहसे हुवे ||
ghāṃna dohase huve ||
The Brahman who accepts the prayer.
6.45.15
यस्य विश्वानि हस्तयोरूचुर्वसूनि नि दविता |
yasya viśvāni hastayorūcurvasūni ni dvitā |
8 Him in whose hands they say are stored all treasures from the days of old,
6.45.16
वीरस्य पर्तनाषहः ||
vīrasya pṛtanāṣahaḥ ||
The Hero, conquering in the fight.
6.45.17
वि दर्ळ्हानि चिदद्रिवो जनानां शचीपते |
vi dṛḷhāni cidadrivo janānāṃ śacīpate |
9 Lord of Strength, Caster of the Stone, destroy the firm forts built by men,
6.45.18
वर्ह माया अनानत ||
vṛha māyā anānata ||
And foil their arts, unbending God!
6.45.19
तमु तवा सत्य सोमपा इन्द्र वाजानां पते |
tamu tvā satya somapā indra vājānāṃ pate |
10 Thee, thee as such, O Lord of Power, O Indra, Soma-drinker, true,
6.45.20
अहूमहि शरवस्यवः ||
ahūmahi śravasyavaḥ ||
We, fain for glory, have invoked.
6.45.21
तमु तवा यः पुरासिथ यो वा नूनं हिते धने |
tamu tvā yaḥ purāsitha yo vā nūnaṃ hite dhane |
11 Such as thou wast of old, and art now to be called on when the prize
6.45.22
हव्यःस शरुधी हवम ||
havyaḥsa śrudhī havam ||
lies ready, listen to our call.
6.45.23
धीभिरर्वद्भिरर्वतो वाजानिन्द्र शरवाय्यान |
dhībhirarvadbhirarvato vājānindra śravāyyān |
12 With hymns and coursers we will gain, Indra, through thee, both steeds and spoil
6.45.24
तवया जेष्म हितं धनम ||
tvayā jeṣma hitaṃ dhanam ||
Most glorious, and the proffered prize.
6.45.25
अभूरु वीर गिर्वणो महानिन्द्र धने हिते |
abhūru vīra ghirvaṇo mahānindra dhane hite |
13 Thou, Indra, Lover of the Song, whom men must stir to help, hast been
6.45.26
भरे वितन्तसाय्यः ||
bhare vitantasāyyaḥ ||
Great in the contest for the prize.
6.45.27
या त ऊतिरमित्रहन मक्षूजवस्तमासति |
yā ta ūtiramitrahan makṣūjavastamāsati |
14 Slayer of foes, whatever aid of thine imparts the swiftest course,
6.45.28
तया नो हिनुही रथम ||
tayā no hinuhī ratham ||
With that impel our car to speed.
6.45.29
स रथेन रथीतमो.अस्माकेनाभियुग्वना |
sa rathena rathītamo.asmākenābhiyughvanā |
15 As skilfullest of those who drive the chariot, with our art and aim,
6.45.30
जेषि जिष्णो हितं धनम ||
jeṣi jiṣṇo hitaṃ dhanam ||
O Conqueror, win the proffered prize.
6.45.31
य एक इत तमु षटुहि कर्ष्टीनां विचर्षणिः |
ya eka it tamu ṣṭuhi kṛṣṭīnāṃ vicarṣaṇiḥ |
16 Praise him who, Matchless and Alone, was born the Lord of living men,
6.45.32
पतिर्जज्ञे वर्षक्रतुः ||
patirjajñe vṛṣakratuḥ ||
Most active, with heroic soul.
6.45.33
यो गर्णतामिदासिथापिरूती शिवः सखा |
yo ghṛṇatāmidāsithāpirūtī śivaḥ sakhā |
17 Thou who hast been the singers' Friend, a Friend auspicious with thine aid,
6.45.34
स तवंन इन्द्र मर्ळय ||
sa tvaṃna indra mṛḷaya ||
As such, O Indra, favour us.
6.45.35
धिष्व वज्रं गभस्त्यो रक्षोहत्याय वज्रिवः |
dhiṣva vajraṃ ghabhastyo rakṣohatyāya vajrivaḥ |
18 Grasp in thine arms the thunderbolt, O Thunder-armed, to slay the fiends:
6.45.36
सासहीष्ठा अभि सप्र्धः ||
sāsahīṣṭhā abhi spṛdhaḥ ||
Mayst thou subdue the foemen's host.
6.45.37
परत्नं रयीणां युजं सखायं कीरिचोदनम |
pratnaṃ rayīṇāṃ yujaṃ sakhāyaṃ kīricodanam |
19 I call the ancient Friend, allied with wealth, who speeds the lowly man,
6.45.38
बरह्मवाहस्तमं हुवे ||
brahmavāhastamaṃ huve ||
Him to whom chiefly prayer is brought.
6.45.39
स हि विश्वानि पार्थिवानेको वसूनि पत्यते |
sa hi viśvāni pārthivāneko vasūni patyate |
20 For he alone is Lord of all the treasures of the earth: he speeds
6.45.40
गिर्वणस्तमो अध्रिगुः ||
ghirvaṇastamo adhrighuḥ ||
Hither, chief Lover of the Song.
6.45.41
स नो नियुद्भिरा पर्ण कामं वाजेभिरश्विभिः |
sa no niyudbhirā pṛṇa kāmaṃ vājebhiraśvibhiḥ |
21 So with thy yoked teams satisfy our wish with power and wealth in steeds
6.45.42
गोमद्भिर्गोपते धर्षत ||
ghomadbhirghopate dhṛṣat ||
And cattle, boldly, Lord of kine!
6.45.43
तद वो गाय सुते सचा पुरुहूताय सत्वने |
tad vo ghāya sute sacā puruhūtāya satvane |
22 Sing this, what time the ' juice is pressed, to him your Hero, Much-invoked,

शं यद गवे ||
śaṃ yad ghave ||
To please him as a mighty Steer.
6.45.45
न शाकिने ||
na śākine ||
23 He, Excellent, withholdeth not his gift of power and wealth in kine,
6.45.46
न घा वसुर्नि यमते दानं वाजस्य गोमतः |
na ghā vasurni yamate dānaṃ vājasya ghomataḥ |
When he hath listened to our songs.
6.45.47
यत सीमुप शरवद गिरः ||
yat sīmupa śravad ghiraḥ ||
24 May he with might unclose for us the cow's stall, whosesoe’er it be,
6.45.48
कुवित्सस्य पर हि वरजं गोमन्तं दस्युहा गमत |
kuvitsasya pra hi vrajaṃ ghomantaṃ dasyuhā ghamat |
To which the Dasyu-slayer goes.
6.45.49
शचीभिरप नो वरत ||
śacībhirapa no varat ||
25 O Indra Śatakratu, these our songs have called aloud to thee,
6.45.50
इमा उ तवा शतक्रतो.अभि पर णोनुवुर्गिरः |
imā u tvā śatakrato.abhi pra ṇonuvurghiraḥ |
Like mother cows to meet their calves.
6.45.51
इन्द्र वत्संन मातरः ||
indra vatsaṃna mātaraḥ ||
26 Hard is thy love to win: thou art a Steer to him who longs for steers:
6.45.52
दूणाशं सख्यं तव गौरसि वीर गव्यते |
dūṇāśaṃ sakhyaṃ tava ghaurasi vīra ghavyate |
Be to one craving steeds a Steed.
6.45.53
अश्वो अश्वायते भव ||
aśvo aśvāyate bhava ||
27 Delight thee with the juice we pour for thine own great munificence:
6.45.54
स मन्दस्वा हयन्धसो ... ||
sa mandasvā hyandhaso ... ||
Yield not thy singer to reproach.
6.45.55
इमा उ तवा सुते-सुते नक्षन्ते गिर्वणो गिरः |
imā u tvā sute-sute nakṣante ghirvaṇo ghiraḥ |
28 These songs with every draught we pour come, Lover of the Song, to thee,
6.45.56
वत्सं गावोन धेनवः ||
vatsaṃ ghāvona dhenavaḥ ||
As milch-kine hasten to their young
6.45.57
पुरूतमं पुरूणां सतोतॄणां विवाचि |
purūtamaṃ purūṇāṃ stotṝṇāṃ vivāci |
29 To thee most oft invoked, amid the many singers' rivalry
6.45.58
वाजेभिर्वाजयताम ||
vājebhirvājayatām ||
Who beg with all their might for wealth.
6.45.59
अस्माकमिन्द्र भूतु ते सतोमो वाहिष्ठो अन्तमः |
asmākamindra bhūtu te stomo vāhiṣṭho antamaḥ |
30 Nearest and most attractive may our laud, O Indra come to thee.
6.45.60
अस्मान राये महे हिनु ||
asmān rāye mahe hinu ||
Urge thou us on to ample wealth.
6.45.61
अधि बर्बुः पणीनां वर्षिष्ठे मूर्धन्नस्थात |
adhi bṛbuḥ paṇīnāṃ varṣiṣṭhe mūrdhannasthāt |
31 Brbu hath set himself above the Paṇis, o’er their highest head,
6.45.62
उरुः कक्षो न गाङगयः ||
uruḥ kakṣo na ghāṅghyaḥ ||
Like the wide bush on Gan!gā's bank.
6.45.63
यस्य वायोरिव दरवद भद्रा रातिः सहस्रिणी |
yasya vāyoriva dravad bhadrā rātiḥ sahasriṇī |
32 He whose good bounty, thousandfold, swift as the rushing of the wind,
6.45.64
सद्यो दानाय मंहते ||
sadyo dānāya maṃhate ||
Suddenly offers as a gift.
6.45.65
तत सु नो विश्वे अर्य आ सदा गर्णन्ति कारवः |
tat su no viśve arya ā sadā ghṛṇanti kāravaḥ |
33 So all our singers ever praise the pious Brbu's noble deed,
6.45.66
बर्बुं सहस्रदातमं सूरिं सहस्रसातमम ||
bṛbuṃ sahasradātamaṃ sūriṃ sahasrasātamam ||
Chief, best to give his thousands, best to give a thousand liberal gifts.
