6.51.1
उदु तयच्चक्षुर्महि मित्रयोरानेति परियं वरुणयोरदब्धम |
udu tyaccakṣurmahi mitrayorāneti priyaṃ varuṇayoradabdham |
1. THAT mighty eye of Varuṇa and Mitra, infallible and dear, is moving upward.
6.51.2
रतस्य शुचि दर्शतमनीकं रुक्मो न दिव उदिताव्यद्यौत ||
ṛtasya śuci darśatamanīkaṃ rukmo na diva uditāvyadyaut ||
The pure and lovely face of holy Order hath shone like gold of heaven in its arising.
6.51.3
वेद यस्त्रीणि विदथान्येषां देवानां जन्म सनुतरा च विप्रः |
veda yastrīṇi vidathānyeṣāṃ devānāṃ janma sanutarā ca vipraḥ |
2 The Sage who knows these Gods’ three ranks and orders, and all their generations near and distant,
6.51.4
रजु मर्तेषु वर्जिना च पश्यन्नभि चष्टे सूरो अर्य एवान ||
ṛju marteṣu vṛjinā ca paśyannabhi caṣṭe sūro arya evān ||
Beholding good and evil acts of mortals, Sūra marks well the doing of the pious.
6.51.5
सतुष उ वो मह रतस्य गोपानदितिं मित्रं वरुणं सुजातान |
stuṣa u vo maha ṛtasya ghopānaditiṃ mitraṃ varuṇaṃ sujātān |
3 I praise you Guards of mighty Law eternal, Aditi, Mitra, Varuṇa, the noble,
6.51.6
अर्यमणं भगमदब्धधीतीनछा वोचे सधन्यः पावकान ||
aryamaṇaṃ bhaghamadabdhadhītīnachā voce sadhanyaḥ pāvakān ||
Aryaman, Bhaga, all whose thoughts are faithful: hither I call the Bright who share in common.
6.51.7
रिशादसः सत्पतीन्रदब्धान महो राज्ञः सुवसनस्य दातॄन |
riśādasaḥ satpatīnradabdhān maho rājñaḥ suvasanasya dātṝn |
4 Lords of the brave, infallible, foe-destroyers, great Kings, bestowers of fair homes to dwell in,
6.51.8
यूनः सुक्षत्रान कषयतो दिवो नॄनादित्यान याम्यदितिं दुवोयु ||
yūnaḥ sukṣatrān kṣayato divo nṝnādityān yāmyaditiṃ duvoyu ||
Young, Heroes, ruling heaven with strong dominion, Ādityas, Aditi I seek with worship.
6.51.9
दयौष पितः पर्थिवि मातरध्रुगग्ने भरातर्वसवो मर्ळता नः |
dyauṣ pitaḥ pṛthivi mātaradhrughaghne bhrātarvasavo mṛḷatā naḥ |
5 O Heaven our Father, Earth our guileless Mother, O Brother Agni, and ye Vasus, bless us.
6.51.10
विश्व आदित्या अदिते सजोषा अस्मभ्यं शर्म बहुलं वि यन्त ||
viśva ādityā adite sajoṣā asmabhyaṃ śarma bahulaṃ vi yanta ||
Grant us, O Aditi and ye Ādityas, all of one mind, your manifold protection.
6.51.11
मा नो वर्काय वर्क्ये समस्मा अघायते रीरधता यजत्राः |
mā no vṛkāya vṛkye samasmā aghāyate rīradhatā yajatrāḥ |
6 Give us not up to any evil creature, as spoil to wolf or she-wolf, O ye Holy.
6.51.12
यूयं हि षठा रथ्यो नस्तनूनां यूयं दक्षस्य वचसो बभूव ||
yūyaṃ hi ṣṭhā rathyo nastanūnāṃ yūyaṃ dakṣasya vacaso babhūva ||
For ye are they who guide aright our bodies, ye are the rulers of our speech and vigour.
6.51.13
मा व एनो अन्यक्र्तं भुजेम मा तत कर्म वसवो यच्चयध्वे |
mā va eno anyakṛtaṃ bhujema mā tat karma vasavo yaccayadhve |
7 Let us not suffer for the sin of others, nor do the deed which ye, O Vasus, punish.
6.51.14
विश्वस्य हि कषयथ विश्वदेवाः सवयं रिपुस्तन्वं रीरिषीष्ट ||
viśvasya hi kṣayatha viśvadevāḥ svayaṃ ripustanvaṃ rīriṣīṣṭa ||
Ye, Universal Gods! are all-controllers: may he do harm unto himself who hates Me.
6.51.15
नम इदुग्रं नम आ विवासे नमो दाधार पर्थिवीमुत दयाम |
nama idughraṃ nama ā vivāse namo dādhāra pṛthivīmuta dyām |
8 Mighty is homage: I adopt and use it. Homage hath held in place the earth and heaven.
6.51.16
नमो देवेभ्यो नम ईश एषां कर्तं चिदेनो नमसाविवासे ||
namo devebhyo nama īśa eṣāṃ kṛtaṃ cideno namasāvivāse ||
Homage to Gods! Homage commands and rules them. I banish even committed sin by homage
6.51.17
रतस्य वो रथ्यः पूतदक्षान रतस्य पस्त्यसदो अदब्धान |
ṛtasya vo rathyaḥ pūtadakṣān ṛtasya pastyasado adabdhān |
9 You Furtherers of Law, pure in your spirit, infallible, dwellers in the home of Order,
6.51.18
ताना नमोभिरुरुचक्षसो नॄन विश्वान व आ नमे महो यजत्राः ||
tānā namobhirurucakṣaso nṝn viśvān va ā name maho yajatrāḥ ||
To you all Heroes mighty and far-seeing I bow me down, O Holy Ones, with homage.
6.51.19
ते हि शरेष्ठवर्चसस्त उ नस्तिरो विश्वानि दुरिता नयन्ति |
te hi śreṣṭhavarcasasta u nastiro viśvāni duritā nayanti |
10 For these are they who shine with noblest splendour; through all our troubles these conduct us safely-
6.51.20
सुक्षत्रासो वरुणो मित्रो अग्निरतधीतयो वक्मराजसत्याः ||
sukṣatrāso varuṇo mitro aghnirtadhītayo vakmarājasatyāḥ ||
Varuṇa, Mitra, Agni, mighty Rulers, trueminded, faithful to the hymn's controllers.
6.51.21
ते न इन्द्रः पर्थिवी कषाम वर्धन पूषा भगो अदितिः पञ्च जनाः |
te na indraḥ pṛthivī kṣāma vardhan pūṣā bhagho aditiḥ pañca janāḥ |
11 May they, Earth, Aditi, Indra, Bhaga, Pūṣan increase our laud, increase the Fivefold people.
6.51.22
सुशर्माणः सववसः सुनीथा भवन्तु नःसुत्रात्रासः सुगोपाः ||
suśarmāṇaḥ svavasaḥ sunīthā bhavantu naḥsutrātrāsaḥ sughopāḥ ||
Giving good help, good refuge, goodly guidance, be they our good deliverers, good protectors.
6.51.23
नू सद्मानं दिव्यं नंशि देवा भारद्वाजः सुमतिं याति होता |
nū sadmānaṃ divyaṃ naṃśi devā bhāradvājaḥ sumatiṃ yāti hotā |
12 Come now, O Gods, to your celestial station: the Bharadvājas' priest entreats your favour.
6.51.24
आसानेभिर्यजमानो मियेधैर्देवानां जन्म वसूयुर्ववन्द ||
āsānebhiryajamāno miyedhairdevānāṃ janma vasūyurvavanda ||
He, sacrificing, fain for wealth, hath honoured the Gods vath those who sit and share oblations.
6.51.25
अप तयं वर्जिनं रिपुं सतेनमग्ने दुराध्यम |
apa tyaṃ vṛjinaṃ ripuṃ stenamaghne durādhyam |
13 Agni, drive thou the wicked foe, the evil-hearted thief away,
6.51.26
दविष्ठमस्य सत्पते कर्धी सुगम ||
daviṣṭhamasya satpate kṛdhī sugham ||
Far, far, Lord of the brave I and give us easy paths.
6.51.27
गरावाणः सोम नो हि कं सखित्वनाय वावशुः |
ghrāvāṇaḥ soma no hi kaṃ sakhitvanāya vāvaśuḥ |
14 Soma, these pressing-stones have called aloud to win thee for our Friend.
6.51.28
जही नयत्रिणं पणिं वर्को हि षः ||
jahī nyatriṇaṃ paṇiṃ vṛko hi ṣaḥ ||
Destroy the greedy Paṇi, for a wolf is he.
6.51.29
यूयं हि षठा सुदानव इन्द्रज्येष्ठा अभिद्यवः |
yūyaṃ hi ṣṭhā sudānava indrajyeṣṭhā abhidyavaḥ |
15 Ye, O most bountiful, are they who, led by Indra, seek the sky.
6.51.30
कर्ता नो अध्वन्ना सुगं गोपा अमा ||
kartā no adhvannā sughaṃ ghopā amā ||
Give us good paths for travel: guard us ivell at home.
6.51.31
अपि पन्थामगन्महि सवस्तिगामनेहसम |
api panthāmaghanmahi svastighāmanehasam |
16 Now have we entered on the road that leads to bliss, without a foe,
6.51.32
येन विश्वाः परिद्विषो वर्णक्ति विन्दते वसु ||
yena viśvāḥ paridviṣo vṛṇakti vindate vasu ||
The road whereon a man escapes all enemies and gathers wealth.
