7.60.1
यदद्य सूर्य बरवो.अनागा उद्यन मित्राय वरुणाय सत्यम |
yadadya sūrya bravo.anāghā udyan mitrāya varuṇāya satyam |
1. WHEN thou, O Sun, this day, arising sinless, shalt speak the truth to Varuṇa and Mitra,
7.60.2
वयं देवत्रादिते सयाम तव परियासो अर्यमन गर्णन्तः ||
vayaṃ devatrādite syāma tava priyāso aryaman ghṛṇantaḥ ||
O Aditi, may all the Deities love us, and thou, O Aryaman, while we are singing.
7.60.3
एष सय मित्रावरुणा नर्चक्षा उभे उदेति सूर्यो अभि जमन |
eṣa sya mitrāvaruṇā nṛcakṣā ubhe udeti sūryo abhi jman |
2 Looking on man, O Varuṇa and Mitra, this Sun ascendeth up by both the pathways,
7.60.4
विश्वस्य सथातुर्जगतश्च गोपा रजु मर्तेषु वर्जिना चपश्यन ||
viśvasya sthāturjaghataśca ghopā ṛju marteṣu vṛjinā capaśyan ||
Guardian of all things fixt, of all that moveth, beholding good and evil acts of mortals.
7.60.5
अयुक्त सप्त हरितः सधस्थाद या ईं वहन्ति सूर्यं घर्ताचीः |
ayukta sapta haritaḥ sadhasthād yā īṃ vahanti sūryaṃ ghṛtācīḥ |
3 He from their home hath yoked the Seven gold Coursers who, dropping oil and fatness, carry Sūrya.
7.60.6
धामानि मित्रावरुणा युवाकुः सं यो यूथेव जनिमानि चष्टे ||
dhāmāni mitrāvaruṇā yuvākuḥ saṃ yo yūtheva janimāni caṣṭe ||
Yours, Varuṇa and Mitra, he surveyeth the worlds and living creatures like a herdsman.
7.60.7
उद वां पर्क्षासो मधुमन्तो अस्थुरा सूर्यो अरुहच्छुक्रमर्णः |
ud vāṃ pṛkṣāso madhumanto asthurā sūryo aruhacchukramarṇaḥ |
4 Your coursers rich in store of sweets have mounted: to the bright ocean Sūrya hath ascended,
7.60.8
यस्मा आदित्या अध्वनो रदन्ति मित्रो अर्यमा वरुणःसजोषाः ||
yasmā ādityā adhvano radanti mitro aryamā varuṇaḥsajoṣāḥ ||
For whom the Ādityas make his pathway ready, Aryaman, Mitra, Varuṇa, accordant.
7.60.9
इमे चेतारो अन्र्तस्य भूरेर्मित्रो अर्यमा वरुणो हि सन्ति |
ime cetāro anṛtasya bhūrermitro aryamā varuṇo hi santi |
5 For these, even Aryaman, Varuṇa and Mitra, are the chastisers of all guile and falsehood.
7.60.10
इम रतस्य वाव्र्धुर्दुरोणे शग्मासः पुत्रा अदितेरदब्धाः ||
ima ṛtasya vāvṛdhurduroṇe śaghmāsaḥ putrā aditeradabdhāḥ ||
These, Aditi's Sons, infallible and mighty, have waxen in the home of law Eternal.
7.60.11
इमे मित्रो वरुणो दूळभासो.अचेतसं चिच्चितयन्ति दक्षैः |
ime mitro varuṇo dūḷabhāso.acetasaṃ ciccitayanti dakṣaiḥ |
6 These, Mitra, Varuṇa whom none deceiveth, with great power quicken even the fool to wisdom,
7.60.12
अपि करतुं सुचेतसं वतन्तस्तिरश्चिदंहः सुपथानयन्ति ||
api kratuṃ sucetasaṃ vatantastiraścidaṃhaḥ supathānayanti ||
And, wakening, moreover, thoughtful insight, lead it by easy paths o’er grief and trouble.
7.60.13
इमे दिवो अनिमिषा पर्थिव्याश्चिकित्वांसो अचेतसं नयन्ति |
ime divo animiṣā pṛthivyāścikitvāṃso acetasaṃ nayanti |
7 They ever vigilant, with eyes that close not, caring for heaven and earth, lead on the thoughtless.
7.60.14
परव्राजे चिन नद्यो गाधमस्ति पारं नो अस्य विष्पितस्य पर्षन ||
pravrāje cin nadyo ghādhamasti pāraṃ no asya viṣpitasya parṣan ||
Even in the river's bed there is a shallow. across this broad expanse may they conduct us.
7.60.15
यद गोपावददितिः शर्म भद्रं मित्रो यछन्ति वरुणः सुदासे |
yad ghopāvadaditiḥ śarma bhadraṃ mitro yachanti varuṇaḥ sudāse |
8 When Aditi and Varuṇa and Mitra, like guardians, give Sudās their friendly shelter,
7.60.16
तस्मिन्ना तोकं तनयं दधाना मा कर्म देवहेळनं तुरासः ||
tasminnā tokaṃ tanayaṃ dadhānā mā karma devaheḷanaṃ turāsaḥ ||
Granting him sons and lineal succession, let us not, bold ones! move the Gods to anger.
7.60.17
अव वेदिं होत्राभिर्यजेत रिपः काश्चिद वरुणध्रुतः सः |
ava vediṃ hotrābhiryajeta ripaḥ kāścid varuṇadhrutaḥ saḥ |
9 May he with ofierings purify the altar from any stains of Varuṇa's reviler.
7.60.18
परि दवेषोभिरर्यमा वर्णक्तूरुं सुदासे वर्षणा उ लोकम ||
pari dveṣobhiraryamā vṛṇaktūruṃ sudāse vṛṣaṇā u lokam ||
Aryaman save us us all those who hate us: give room and freedom to Sudās, ye Mighty.
7.60.19
सस्वश्चिद धि सम्र्तिस्त्वेष्येषामपीच्येन सहसा सहन्ते |
sasvaścid dhi samṛtistveṣyeṣāmapīcyena sahasā sahante |
10 Hid from our eyes is their resplendent meeting: by their mysterious might they hold dominion.
7.60.20
युष्मद भिया वर्षणो रेजमाना दक्षस्य चिन महिना मर्ळता नः ||
yuṣmad bhiyā vṛṣaṇo rejamānā dakṣasya cin mahinā mṛḷatā naḥ ||
Heroes! we cry trembling in fear before you, even in the greatness of your power have mercy.
7.60.21
यो बरह्मणे सुमतिमायजाते वाजस्य सातौ परमस्य रायः |
yo brahmaṇe sumatimāyajāte vājasya sātau paramasya rāyaḥ |
11 He who wins favour for his prayer by worship, that he may gain him strength and highest riches,
7.60.22
सीक्षन्त मन्युं मघवानो अर्य उरु कषयाय चक्रिरे सुधातु ||
sīkṣanta manyuṃ maghavāno arya uru kṣayāya cakrire sudhātu ||
That good man's mind the Mighty Ones will follow: they have brought comfort to his spacious dwelling.
7.60.23
इयं देव पुरोहितिर्युवभ्यां यज्ञेषु मित्रावरुणावकारि |
iyaṃ deva purohitiryuvabhyāṃ yajñeṣu mitrāvaruṇāvakāri |
12 This priestly task, Gods! Varuṇa and Mitra! hath been performed for you at sacrifices.
7.60.24
विश्वानि दुर्गा पिप्र्तं तिरो नो यूयं पात ... ||
viśvāni durghā pipṛtaṃ tiro no yūyaṃ pāta ... ||
Convey us safely over every peril. Preserve us evermore, ye Gods, with blessings.
