7.66.1
पर मित्रयोर्वरुणयोः सतोमो न एतु शूष्यः |
pra mitrayorvaruṇayoḥ stomo na etu śūṣyaḥ |
1. LET our strong hymn of praise go forth, the laud of Mitra-Varuṇa,
7.66.2
नमस्वान तुविजातयोः ||
namasvān tuvijātayoḥ ||
With homage to that high-born Pair;
7.66.3
या धारयन्त देवाः सुदक्षा दक्षपितरा |
yā dhārayanta devāḥ sudakṣā dakṣapitarā |
2 The Two exceeding wise, the Sons of Dakṣa, whom the gods ordained
7.66.4
असुर्याय परमहसा ||
asuryāya pramahasā ||
For lordship, excellently great.
7.66.5
ता न सतिपा तनूपा वरुण जरितॄणाम |
tā na stipā tanūpā varuṇa jaritṝṇām |
3 Such, Guardians of our homes and us, O Mitra-Varuṇa, fulfil
7.66.6
मित्र साधयतं धियः ||
mitra sādhayataṃ dhiyaḥ ||
The thoughts of those who sing your praise.
7.66.7
यदद्य सूर उदिते.अनागा मित्रो अर्यमा |
yadadya sūra udite.anāghā mitro aryamā |
4 So when the Sun hath risen to-day, may sinless Mitra, Aryaman,
7.66.8
सुवाति सविताभगः ||
suvāti savitābhaghaḥ ||
Bhaga, and Savitar sendus forth.
7.66.9
सुप्रावीरस्तु स कषयः पर नु यामन सुदानवः |
suprāvīrastu sa kṣayaḥ pra nu yāman sudānavaḥ |
5 May this our home be guarded well forward, ye Bounteous, on the way,
7.66.10
ये नो अंहो.अतिपिप्रति ||
ye no aṃho.atipiprati ||
Who bear us safely o’er distress.
7.66.11
उत सवराजो अदितिरदब्धस्य वरतस्य ये |
uta svarājo aditiradabdhasya vratasya ye |
6. And those Self-reigning, Aditi, whose statute is inviolate,
7.66.12
महो राजान ईशते ||
maho rājāna īśate ||
The Kings who rule a vast domain.
7.66.13
परति वां सूर उदिते मित्रं गर्णीषे वरुणम |
prati vāṃ sūra udite mitraṃ ghṛṇīṣe varuṇam |
7 Soon as the Sun hath risen, to you, to Mitra-Varuṇa, I sing,
7.66.14
अर्यमणंरिशादसम ||
aryamaṇaṃriśādasam ||
And Aryarnan who slays the foe.
7.66.15
राया हिरण्यया मतिरियमव्र्काय शवसे |
rāyā hiraṇyayā matiriyamavṛkāya śavase |
8 With wealth of gold may this my song bring unmolested power and might,
7.66.16
इयं विप्रामेधसातये ||
iyaṃ viprāmedhasātaye ||
And, Brahmans, gain the sacrifice.
7.66.17
ते सयाम देव वरुण ते मित्र सूरिभिः सह |
te syāma deva varuṇa te mitra sūribhiḥ saha |
9 May we be thine, God Varuṇa, and with our princes, Mitra, thine.
7.66.18
इषं सवश्च धीमहि ||
iṣaṃ svaśca dhīmahi ||
Food and Heaven's light will we obtain.
7.66.19
बहवः सूरचक्षसो.अग्निजिह्वा रताव्र्धः |
bahavaḥ sūracakṣaso.aghnijihvā ṛtāvṛdhaḥ |
10 Many are they who strengthen Law, Sun-eyed, with Agni for their tongue,
7.66.20
तरीणि ये येमुर्विदथानि धीतिभिर्विश्वानि परिभूतिभिः ||
trīṇi ye yemurvidathāni dhītibhirviśvāni paribhūtibhiḥ ||
They who direct the three great gatherings with their thoughts, yea, all things with surpassing might.
7.66.21
वि ये दधुः शरदं मासमादहर्यज्ञमक्तुं चाद रचम |
vi ye dadhuḥ śaradaṃ māsamādaharyajñamaktuṃ cād ṛcam |
11 They who have stablished year and month and then the day, night, sacrifice and holy verse,
7.66.22
अनाप्यं वरुणो मित्रो अर्यमा कषत्रं राजान आशत ||
anāpyaṃ varuṇo mitro aryamā kṣatraṃ rājāna āśata ||
Varuṇa, Mitra, Aryarnan, the Kings, have won dominion which none else may gain.
7.66.23
तद वो अद्य मनामहे सूक्तैः सूर उदिते |
tad vo adya manāmahe sūktaiḥ sūra udite |
12 So at the rising of the Sun we think of you with hymns to-day,
7.66.24
यदोहते वरुणो मित्रो अर्यमा यूयं रतस्य रथ्यः ||
yadohate varuṇo mitro aryamā yūyaṃ ṛtasya rathyaḥ ||
Even as Varuṇa, Mitra, Aryaman deserve: ye are the charioteers of Law.
7.66.25
रतावान रतजाता रताव्र्धो घोरासो अन्र्तद्विषः |
ṛtāvāna ṛtajātā ṛtāvṛdho ghorāso anṛtadviṣaḥ |
13 True to Law, born in Law the strengtheners of Law, terrible, haters of the false,
7.66.26
तेषांवः सुम्ने सुछर्दिष्टमे नरः सयाम ये च सूरयः ||
teṣāṃvaḥ sumne suchardiṣṭame naraḥ syāma ye ca sūrayaḥ ||
In their felicity which gives the best defence may we men and our princes dwell.
7.66.27
उदु तयद दर्शतं वपुर्दिव एति परतिह्वरे |
udu tyad darśataṃ vapurdiva eti pratihvare |
14 Uprises, on the slope of heaven, that marvel that attracts die sight
7.66.28
यदीमाशुर्वहति देव एतशो विश्वस्मै चक्षसे अरम ||
yadīmāśurvahati deva etaśo viśvasmai cakṣase aram ||
As swift celestial Etaśa bears it away, prepared for every eye to see.
7.66.29
शीर्ष्णः-शीर्ष्णो जगतस्तस्थुषस पतिं समया विश्वमा रजः |
śīrṣṇaḥ-śīrṣṇo jaghatastasthuṣas patiṃ samayā viśvamā rajaḥ |
15 Lord of each single head, of fixt and moving things, equally through the whole expanse,
7.66.30
सप्त सवसारः सुविताय सूर्यं वहन्ति हरितो रथे ||
sapta svasāraḥ suvitāya sūryaṃ vahanti harito rathe ||
The Seven sister Bays bear Sūrya on his car, to bring us wealth and happiness.
7.66.31
तच्चक्षुर्देवहितं शुक्रमुच्चरत |
taccakṣurdevahitaṃ śukramuccarat |
16 A hundred autumns may we see that bright Eye, God-ordained, arise
7.66.32
पश्येम शरदः शतं जीवेम शरदः शतम ||
paśyema śaradaḥ śataṃ jīvema śaradaḥ śatam ||
A hundred autumns may we live.
7.66.33
काव्येभिरदाभ्या यातं वरुण दयुमत |
kāvyebhiradābhyā yātaṃ varuṇa dyumat |
17 Infallible through your wisdom, come hither, resplendent Varuṇa,
7.66.34
मित्रश्च सोमपीतये ||
mitraśca somapītaye ||
And Mitra, to the Soma draught.
7.66.35
दिवो धामभिर्वरुण मित्रश्चा यातमद्रुहा |
divo dhāmabhirvaruṇa mitraścā yātamadruhā |
18 Come as the laws of Heaven ordain, Varuṇa, Mitra, void of guile:
7.66.36
पिबतं सोममातुजी ||
pibataṃ somamātujī ||
Press near and drink the Soma juice.
7.66.37
आ यातं मित्रावरुणा जुषाणावाहुतिं नरा |
ā yātaṃ mitrāvaruṇā juṣāṇāvāhutiṃ narā |
19 Come, Mitra, Varuṇa, accept, Heroes, our sacrificial gift:
7.66.38
पातं सोमं रताव्र्धा ||
pātaṃ somaṃ ṛtāvṛdhā ||
Drink Soma, ye who strengthen Law.
