9.61.1
अया वीती परि सरव यस्त इन्दो मदेष्वा |
ayā vītī pari srava yasta indo madeṣvā |
1. FLOW onward, Indu, with this food for him who in thy wild delight
9.61.2
अवाहन नवतीर्नव ||
avāhan navatīrnava ||
Battered the nine-and-ninety down,
9.61.3
पुरः सद्य इत्थाधिये दिवोदासाय शम्बरम |
puraḥ sadya itthādhiye divodāsāya śambaram |
2 Smote swiftly forts, and gambara, then Yadu and that Turvaga,
9.61.4
अध तयं तुर्वशं यदुम ||
adha tyaṃ turvaśaṃ yadum ||
For pious Divodāsa's sake.
9.61.5
परि णो अश्वमश्वविद गोमदिन्दो हिरण्यवत |
pari ṇo aśvamaśvavid ghomadindo hiraṇyavat |
3 Finder of horses, pour on us horses and
9.61.6
कषरा सहस्रिणीरिषः ||
kṣarā sahasriṇīriṣaḥ ||
wealth in kine and gold,
9.61.7
पवमानस्य ते वयं पवित्रमभ्युन्दतः |
pavamānasya te vayaṃ pavitramabhyundataḥ |
And, Indu, food in boundless store.
9.61.8
सखित्वमा वर्णीमहे ||
sakhitvamā vṛṇīmahe ||
4 We seek to win thy friendly love, even Pavamana's flowing o’er
9.61.9
ये ते पवित्रमूर्मयो.अभिक्षरन्ति धारया |
ye te pavitramūrmayo.abhikṣaranti dhārayā |
The limit of the cleansing sieve.
9.61.10
तेभिर्नः सोम मर्ळय ||
tebhirnaḥ soma mṛḷaya ||
5 With those same waves which in their stream oyerflow the purifying sieve,
9.61.11
स नः पुनान आ भर रयिं वीरवतीमिषम |
sa naḥ punāna ā bhara rayiṃ vīravatīmiṣam |
Soma; be gracious unto us.
9.61.12
ईशानःसोम विश्वतः ||
īśānaḥsoma viśvataḥ ||
6 O Soma, being purified, bring us from all sides,—for thou canst,—
9.61.13
एतमु तयं दश कषिपो मर्जन्ति सिन्धुमातरम |
etamu tyaṃ daśa kṣipo mṛjanti sindhumātaram |
Riches and food with hero sons.
9.61.14
समादित्येभिरख्यत ||
samādityebhirakhyata ||
7 Him here, the Child whom streams have borne, the ten swift fingers beautify
9.61.15
समिन्द्रेणोत वायुना सुत एति पवित्र आ |
samindreṇota vāyunā suta eti pavitra ā |
With the Ādityas is he seen.
9.61.16
सं सूर्यस्यरश्मिभिः ||
saṃ sūryasyaraśmibhiḥ ||
8 With Indra and with Vāyu he, effused, flows onward with,the beams
9.61.17
स नो भगाय वायवे पूष्णे पवस्व मधुमान |
sa no bhaghāya vāyave pūṣṇe pavasva madhumān |
Of Sūrya to the cleansing sieve.
9.61.18
चारुर्मित्रे वरुणे च ||
cārurmitre varuṇe ca ||
9 Flow rich in sweets and lovely for our Bhaga, Vāyu, Pūṣan flow
9.61.19
उच्चा ते जातमन्धसो दिवि षद भूम्या ददे |
uccā te jātamandhaso divi ṣad bhūmyā dade |
For Mitra and for Varuṇa.
9.61.20
उग्रं शर्म महि शरवः ||
ughraṃ śarma mahi śravaḥ ||
10 High is thy juice's birth: though set in heaven, on earth it hath obtained
9.61.21
एना विश्वान्यर्य आ दयुम्नानि मानुषाणाम |
enā viśvānyarya ā dyumnāni mānuṣāṇām |
Strong sheltering power and great renown.
9.61.22
सिषासन्तो वनामहे ||
siṣāsanto vanāmahe ||
11 Striving to win, with him we gain all wealth from the ungodly man,
9.61.23
स न इन्द्राय यज्यवे वरुणाय मरुद्भ्यः |
sa na indrāya yajyave varuṇāya marudbhyaḥ |
Yea, all the glories of mankind.
9.61.24
वरिवोवित परिस्रव ||
varivovit parisrava ||
12 Finder of room and freedom, flow for Indra whom we must adore,
9.61.25
उपो षु जातमप्तुरं गोभिर्भङगं परिष्क्र्तम |
upo ṣu jātamapturaṃ ghobhirbhaṅghaṃ pariṣkṛtam |
For Varuṇa and the Marut host.
9.61.26
इन्दुं देवा अयासिषुः ||
induṃ devā ayāsiṣuḥ ||
13 The Gods have come to Indu well-descended, beautified with milk,
9.61.27
तमिद वर्धन्तु नो गिरो वत्सं संशिश्वरीरिव |
tamid vardhantu no ghiro vatsaṃ saṃśiśvarīriva |
The active crusher of the foe.
9.61.28
य इन्द्रस्य हर्दंसनिः ||
ya indrasya hṛdaṃsaniḥ ||
14 Even as mother cows their calf, so let our praise-songs strengthen him,
9.61.29
अर्षा णः सोम शं गवे धुक्षस्व पिप्युषीमिषम |
arṣā ṇaḥ soma śaṃ ghave dhukṣasva pipyuṣīmiṣam |
Yea, him who winneth Indra's heart.
9.61.30
वर्धा समुद्रमुक्थ्यम ||
vardhā samudramukthyam ||
15 Soma, pour blessings on our kine, pour forth the food that streams with milk
9.61.31
पवमानो अजीजनद दिवश्चित्रं न तन्यतुम |
pavamāno ajījanad divaścitraṃ na tanyatum |
Increase the sea that merits laud.
9.61.32
जयोतिर्वैश्वानरं बर्हत ||
jyotirvaiśvānaraṃ bṛhat ||
16 From heaven hath Pavamana made, as ’twere, the marvellous thunder, and
9.61.33
पवमानस्य ते रसो मदो राजन्नदुछुनः |
pavamānasya te raso mado rājannaduchunaḥ |
The lofty light of all mankind.
9.61.34
वि वारमव्यमर्षति ||
vi vāramavyamarṣati ||
17 The gladdening and auspicious juice of thee, of Pavamana, King!
9.61.35
पवमान रसस्तव दक्षो वि राजति दयुमान |
pavamāna rasastava dakṣo vi rājati dyumān |
Flows o’er the woollen straining-cloth.
9.61.36
जयोतिर्विश्वं सवर्द्र्शे ||
jyotirviśvaṃ svardṛśe ||
18 Thy juice, O Pavamana, sends its rays abroad like splendid skill,
9.61.37
यस्ते मदो वरेण्यस्तेना पवस्वान्धसा |
yaste mado vareṇyastenā pavasvāndhasā |
Like lustre, all heaven's light, to see.
9.61.38
देवावीरघशंसहा ||
devāvīraghaśaṃsahā ||
19 Flow onward with that juice of thine most excellent, that brings delight,
9.61.39
जघ्निर्व्र्त्रममित्रियं सस्निर्वाजं दिवे-दिवे |
jaghnirvṛtramamitriyaṃ sasnirvājaṃ dive-dive |
Slaying the wicked, dear to Gods.
9.61.40
गोषा उ अश्वसा असि ||
ghoṣā u aśvasā asi ||
20 Killing the foeman and his hate, and winning booty every day,
9.61.41
सम्मिश्लो अरुषो भव सूपस्थाभिर्न धेनुभिः |
sammiślo aruṣo bhava sūpasthābhirna dhenubhiḥ |
Gainer art thou of steeds and kine.
9.61.42
सीदञ्छ्येनो न योनिमा ||
sīdañchyeno na yonimā ||
21 Red-hued, be blended with the milk that seems to yield its lovely breast,
9.61.43
स पवस्व य आविथेन्द्रं वर्त्राय हन्तवे |
sa pavasva ya āvithendraṃ vṛtrāya hantave |
Falcon-like resting in thine home.
9.61.44
वव्रिवांसं महीरपः ||
vavrivāṃsaṃ mahīrapaḥ ||
22 Flow onward thou who strengthenedst Indra to slaughter Vṛtra who
9.61.45
सुवीरासो वयं धना जयेम सोम मीढ्वः |
suvīrāso vayaṃ dhanā jayema soma mīḍhvaḥ |
Compassed and stayed the mighty floods.
9.61.46
पुनानो वर्धनो गिरः ||
punāno vardhano ghiraḥ ||
23 Soma who rainest gifts, may we win riches with our hero sons:
9.61.47
तवोतासस्तवावसा सयाम वन्वन्त आमुरः |
tvotāsastavāvasā syāma vanvanta āmuraḥ |
Strengthen, as thou art cleansed, our hymns.
9.61.48
सोम वरतेषुजाग्र्हि ||
soma vrateṣujāghṛhi ||
24 Aided by thee, and through thy grace, may we be slayers when we war:
9.61.49
अपघ्नन पवते मर्धो.अप सोमो अराव्णः |
apaghnan pavate mṛdho.apa somo arāvṇaḥ |
Watch, Soma, at our solemn rites.
9.61.50
गछन्निन्द्रस्य निष्क्र्तम ||
ghachannindrasya niṣkṛtam ||
25 Chasing our foemen, driving off the godless, Soma flowcth on,
9.61.51
महो नो राय आ भर पवमान जही मर्धः |
maho no rāya ā bhara pavamāna jahī mṛdhaḥ |
Going to Indra's special place.
9.61.52
रास्वेन्दो वीरवद यशः ||
rāsvendo vīravad yaśaḥ ||
26 O Pavamana, hither bring great riches, and destroy our foes:
9.61.53
न तवा शतं चन हरुतो राधो दित्सन्तमा मिनन |
na tvā śataṃ cana hruto rādho ditsantamā minan |
O Indu, grant heroic fame.
9.61.54
यत पुनानो मखस्यसे ||
yat punāno makhasyase ||
27 A hundred obstacles have ne’er checked
9.61.55
पवस्वेन्दो वर्षा सुतः कर्धी नो यशसो जने |
pavasvendo vṛṣā sutaḥ kṛdhī no yaśaso jane |
thee when fain to give thy boons,
9.61.56
विश्वा अपद्विषो जहि ||
viśvā apadviṣo jahi ||
When, being cleansed, thou combatest.
9.61.57
अस्य ते सख्ये वयं तवेन्दो दयुम्न उत्तमे |
asya te sakhye vayaṃ tavendo dyumna uttame |
28 Indu, flow on, a mighty juice; glorify us among the folk:
9.61.58
सासह्याम पर्तन्यतः ||
sāsahyāma pṛtanyataḥ ||
Drive all our enemies away.
9.61.59
या ते भीमान्यायुधा तिग्मानि सन्ति धूर्वणे |
yā te bhīmānyāyudhā tighmāni santi dhūrvaṇe |
29 Indu, in this thy friendship most lofty and glorious may we
9.61.60
रक्षा समस्य नो निदः ||
rakṣā samasya no nidaḥ ||
Subdue all those who war with us.
