9.62.1
एते अस्र्ग्रमिन्दवस्तिरः पवित्रमाशवः |
ete asṛghramindavastiraḥ pavitramāśavaḥ |
1. THESE rapid Soma-drops have been poured through the purifying sieve
9.62.2
विश्वान्यभिसौभगा ||
viśvānyabhisaubhaghā ||
To bring us all felicities.
9.62.3
विघ्नन्तो दुरिता पुरु सुगा तोकाय वाजिनः |
vighnanto duritā puru sughā tokāya vājinaḥ |
2 Dispelling manifold mishap, giving the courser's progeny,
9.62.4
तना कर्ण्वन्तो अर्वते ||
tanā kṛṇvanto arvate ||
Yea, and the warrior steed, success.
9.62.5
कर्ण्वन्तो वरिवो गवे.अभ्यर्षन्ति सुष्टुतिम |
kṛṇvanto varivo ghave.abhyarṣanti suṣṭutim |
3 Bringing prosperity to kine, they make perpetual Iḷā flow
9.62.6
इळामस्मभ्यं संयतम ||
iḷāmasmabhyaṃ saṃyatam ||
To us for noble eulogy.
9.62.7
असाव्यंशुर्मदायाप्सु दक्षो गिरिष्ठाः |
asāvyaṃśurmadāyāpsu dakṣo ghiriṣṭhāḥ |
4 Strong, mountain-born, the stalk hath been
9.62.8
शयेनो न योनिमासदत ||
śyeno na yonimāsadat ||
pressed in the streams for rapturous joy:
9.62.9
शुभ्रमन्धो देववातमप्सु धूतो नर्भिः सुतः |
śubhramandho devavātamapsu dhūto nṛbhiḥ sutaḥ |
Hawk-like he settles in his home.
9.62.10
सवदन्ति गावः पयोभिः ||
svadanti ghāvaḥ payobhiḥ ||
5 Fair is the God-loved juice; the plant is washed in waters, pressed by men
9.62.11
आदीमश्वं न हेतारो.अशूशुभन्नम्र्ताय |
ādīmaśvaṃ na hetāro.aśūśubhannamṛtāya |
The milch-kine sweeten it with milk.
9.62.12
मध्वो रसं सधमादे ||
madhvo rasaṃ sadhamāde ||
6 As drivers deck a courser, so have they adorned the meath's juice for
9.62.13
यास्ते धारा मधुश्चुतो.अस्र्ग्रमिन्द ऊतये |
yāste dhārā madhuścuto.asṛghraminda ūtaye |
Ambrosia, for the festival.
9.62.14
ताभिः पवित्रमासदः ||
tābhiḥ pavitramāsadaḥ ||
7 Thou, Indu, with thy streams that drop sweet juices, which were poured for
9.62.15
सो अर्षेन्द्राय पीतये तिरो रोमाण्यव्यया |
so arṣendrāya pītaye tiro romāṇyavyayā |
help,
9.62.16
सीदन योना वनेष्वा ||
sīdan yonā vaneṣvā ||
Hast settled in the cleansing sieve.
9.62.17
तवमिन्दो परि सरव सवादिष्ठो अङगिरोभ्यः |
tvamindo pari srava svādiṣṭho aṅghirobhyaḥ |
8 So flow thou onward through the fleece, for Indra flow, to be his drink,
9.62.18
वरिवोविद घर्तं पयः ||
varivovid ghṛtaṃ payaḥ ||
Finding thine home in vats of wood.
9.62.19
अयं विचर्षणिर्हितः पवमानः स चेतति |
ayaṃ vicarṣaṇirhitaḥ pavamānaḥ sa cetati |
9 As giving room and freedom, as most sweet, pour butter forth and milk,
9.62.20
हिन्वान आप्यं बर्हत ||
hinvāna āpyaṃ bṛhat ||
O Indu, for the Aṅgirases.
9.62.21
एष वर्षा वर्षव्रतः पवमानो अशस्तिहा |
eṣa vṛṣā vṛṣavrataḥ pavamāno aśastihā |
10 Most active and benevolent, this Pavamana, sent to us
9.62.22
करद वसूनि दाशुषे ||
karad vasūni dāśuṣe ||
For lofty friendship, meditates.
9.62.23
आ पवस्व सहस्रिणं रयिं गोमन्तमश्विनम |
ā pavasva sahasriṇaṃ rayiṃ ghomantamaśvinam |
11 Queller of curses, mighty, with strong sway, this Pavamana shall
9.62.24
पुरुश्चन्द्रम्पुरुस्प्र्हम ||
puruścandrampuruspṛham ||
Bring treasures to the worshipper.
9.62.25
एष सय परि षिच्यते मर्म्र्ज्यमान आयुभिः |
eṣa sya pari ṣicyate marmṛjyamāna āyubhiḥ |
12 Pour thou upon us thousandfold possessions, both of kine and steeds,
9.62.26
उरुगायः कविक्रतुः ||
urughāyaḥ kavikratuḥ ||
Exceeding glorious, much-desired.
9.62.27
सहस्रोतिः शतामघो विमानो रजसः कविः |
sahasrotiḥ śatāmagho vimāno rajasaḥ kaviḥ |
13 Wandering far, with wise designs, the juice here present is effused,
9.62.28
इन्द्राय पवते मदः ||
indrāya pavate madaḥ ||
Made beautiful by living men.
9.62.29
गिरा जात इह सतुत इन्दुरिन्द्राय धीयते |
ghirā jāta iha stuta indurindrāya dhīyate |
14 For Indra flows the gladdening drink, the measurer of the region, Sage,

विर्योना वसताविव ||
viryonā vasatāviva ||
With countless wealth and endless help.
9.62.31
पवमानः सुतो नर्भिः सोमो वाजमिवासरत |
pavamānaḥ suto nṛbhiḥ somo vājamivāsarat |
15 Born on the inountain, lauded here, Indu for Indra is set down,
9.62.32
चमूषु शक्मनासदम ||
camūṣu śakmanāsadam ||
As in her sheltering nest a bird.
9.62.33
तं तरिप्र्ष्ठे तरिवन्धुरे रथे युञ्जन्ति यातवे |
taṃ tripṛṣṭhe trivandhure rathe yuñjanti yātave |
16 Pressed by the men, as ’twere to war hath Soma Pavamana sped,
9.62.34
रषीणां सप्त धीतिभिः ||
ṛṣīṇāṃ sapta dhītibhiḥ ||
To test with might within the vats.
9.62.35
तं सोतारो धनस्प्र्तमाशुं वाजाय यातवे |
taṃ sotāro dhanaspṛtamāśuṃ vājāya yātave |
17 That he may move, they yoke him to the three-backed triple-seated car
9.62.36
हरिं हिनोत वाजिनम ||
hariṃ hinota vājinam ||
By the Seven Ṛṣis’ holy songs.
9.62.37
आविशन कलशं सुतो विश्वा अर्षन्नभि शरियः |
āviśan kalaśaṃ suto viśvā arṣannabhi śriyaḥ |
18 Drive ye that Tawny Courser, O ye pressers, on his way to war,
9.62.38
शूरोन गोषु तिष्ठति ||
śūrona ghoṣu tiṣṭhati ||
Swift Steed who carries off the spoil.
9.62.39
आ त इन्दो मदाय कं पयो दुहन्त्यायवः |
ā ta indo madāya kaṃ payo duhantyāyavaḥ |
19 Pouring all glories hither, he, effused and entering the jar,
9.62.40
देवा देवेभ्यो मधु ||
devā devebhyo madhu ||
Stands like a hero mid the kine.
9.62.41
आ नः सोमं पवित्र आ सर्जता मधुमत्तमम |
ā naḥ somaṃ pavitra ā sṛjatā madhumattamam |
20 Indu, the living men milk out the juice to make the rapturous draught:
9.62.42
देवेभ्यो देवश्रुत्तमम ||
devebhyo devaśruttamam ||
Gods for the Gods milk out the meath.
9.62.43
एते सोमा अस्र्क्षत गर्णानाः शरवसे महे |
ete somā asṛkṣata ghṛṇānāḥ śravase mahe |
21 Pour for the Gods into the sieve our Soma very rich in sweets,
9.62.44
मदिन्तमस्य धारया ||
madintamasya dhārayā ||
Him whom the Gods most gladly hear.
9.62.45
अभि गव्यानि वीतये नर्म्णा पुनानो अर्षसि |
abhi ghavyāni vītaye nṛmṇā punāno arṣasi |
22 Into his stream who gladdens best these Soma juices have been poured,
9.62.46
सनद्वाजः परि सरव ||
sanadvājaḥ pari srava ||
Lauded with songs for lofty fame.
9.62.47
उत नो गोमतीरिषो विश्वा अर्ष परिष्टुभः |
uta no ghomatīriṣo viśvā arṣa pariṣṭubhaḥ |
23 Thou flowest to enjoy the milk, and bringest valour, being cleansed:
9.62.48
गर्णानो जमदग्निना ||
ghṛṇāno jamadaghninā ||
Winning the spoil flow hitherward.
9.62.49
पवस्व वाचो अग्रियः सोम चित्राभिरूतिभिः |
pavasva vāco aghriyaḥ soma citrābhirūtibhiḥ |
24 And, hymned by Jamadagnis, let all nourishment that kine supply,
9.62.50
अभि विश्वानि काव्या ||
abhi viśvāni kāvyā ||
And general praises, flow to us.
9.62.51
तवं समुद्रिया अपो.अग्रियो वाच ईरयन |
tvaṃ samudriyā apo.aghriyo vāca īrayan |
25 Soma, as leader of the song flow onward with thy wondrous aids,
9.62.52
पवस्व विश्वमेजय ||
pavasva viśvamejaya ||
For holy lore of every kind.
9.62.53
तुभ्येमा भुवना कवे महिम्ने सोम तस्थिरे |
tubhyemā bhuvanā kave mahimne soma tasthire |
26 Do thou as leader of the song, stirring the waters of the sea,
9.62.54
तुभ्यमर्षन्तिसिन्धवः ||
tubhyamarṣantisindhavaḥ ||
Flow onward, thou who movest all.
9.62.55
पर ते दिवो न वर्ष्टयो धारा यन्त्यसश्चतः |
pra te divo na vṛṣṭayo dhārā yantyasaścataḥ |
27 O Soma, O thou Sage, these worlds stand ready to attest thy might:
9.62.56
अभि शुक्रामुपस्तिरम ||
abhi śukrāmupastiram ||
For thy behoof the rivers flow.
9.62.57
इन्द्रायेन्दुं पुनीतनोग्रं दक्षाय साधनम |
indrāyenduṃ punītanoghraṃ dakṣāya sādhanam |
28 Like showers of rain that fall from heaven thy streams perpetually flow
9.62.58
ईशानं वीतिराधसम ||
īśānaṃ vītirādhasam ||
To the bright fleece spread under them.
9.62.59
पवमान रतः कविः सोमः पवित्रमासदत |
pavamāna ṛtaḥ kaviḥ somaḥ pavitramāsadat |
29 For potent Indra purify Indu effectual and strong,
9.62.60
दधत सतोत्रेसुवीर्यम ||
dadhat stotresuvīryam ||
Enjoyment-giver, Mighty Lord.
