9.64.1
वर्षा सोम दयुमानसि वर्षा देव वर्षव्रतः |
vṛṣā soma dyumānasi vṛṣā deva vṛṣavrataḥ |
1. Soma, thou art a splendid Steer, a Steer, O God, with steerlike sway:
9.64.2
वर्षा धर्माणि दधिषे ||
vṛṣā dharmāṇi dadhiṣe ||
Thou as a Steer ordainest laws.
9.64.3
वर्ष्णस्ते वर्ष्ण्यं शवो वर्षा वनं वर्षा मदः |
vṛṣṇaste vṛṣṇyaṃ śavo vṛṣā vanaṃ vṛṣā madaḥ |
2 Steer-strong thy might is as a steer's, steerstrong thywood, steer-like thy drink
9.64.4
सत्यं वर्षन वर्षेदसि ||
satyaṃ vṛṣan vṛṣedasi ||
A Steer indeed, O Steer, art thou.
9.64.5
अश्वो न चक्रदो वर्षा सं गा इन्दो समर्वतः |
aśvo na cakrado vṛṣā saṃ ghā indo samarvataḥ |
3 Thou, Indu, as a vigorous horse, hast neighed together steeds and kine:
9.64.6
वि नो राये दुरो वर्धि ||
vi no rāye duro vṛdhi ||
Unbar for us the doors to wealth.
9.64.7
अस्र्क्षत पर वाजिनो गव्या सोमासो अश्वया |
asṛkṣata pra vājino ghavyā somāso aśvayā |
4 Out of desire of cows and steeds and horses. potent Soma-drops,
9.64.8
शुक्रासो वीरयाशवः ||
śukrāso vīrayāśavaḥ ||
Brilliant and swift, have been effused.
9.64.9
शुम्भमाना रतायुभिर्म्र्ज्यमाना गभस्त्योः |
śumbhamānā ṛtāyubhirmṛjyamānā ghabhastyoḥ |
5 They purified in both the hands, made beautiful by holy men,
9.64.10
पवन्ते वारेव्यये ||
pavante vāreavyaye ||
Flow onward to the fleecy cloth.
9.64.11
ते विश्वा दाशुषे वसु सोमा दिव्यानि पार्थिवा |
te viśvā dāśuṣe vasu somā divyāni pārthivā |
6 These Soma juices shall pour forth all treasures for the worshipper
9.64.12
पवन्तामान्तरिक्ष्या ||
pavantāmāntarikṣyā ||
From heaven and earth and firmament.
9.64.13
पवमानस्य विश्ववित पर ते सर्गा अस्र्क्षत |
pavamānasya viśvavit pra te sarghā asṛkṣata |
7 The streams of Pavamana, thine, Finder of all, have been effused,
9.64.14
सूर्यस्येव न रश्मयः ||
sūryasyeva na raśmayaḥ ||
Even as Sūrya's rays of light.
9.64.15
केतुं कर्ण्वन दिवस परि विश्वा रूपाभ्यर्षसि |
ketuṃ kṛṇvan divas pari viśvā rūpābhyarṣasi |
8 Making the light that shines from heaven thou flowest on to every form
9.64.16
समुद्रः सोम पिन्वसे ||
samudraḥ soma pinvase ||
Soma, thou swellest like a sea.
9.64.17
हिन्वानो वाचमिष्यसि पवमान विधर्मणि |
hinvāno vācamiṣyasi pavamāna vidharmaṇi |
9 Urged on thou sendest out thy voice, O Pavamana; thou hast moved,
9.64.18
अक्रान देवो नसूर्यः ||
akrān devo nasūryaḥ ||
Like the God Sūrya, to the sieve.
9.64.19
इन्दुः पविष्ट चेतनः परियः कवीनां मती |
induḥ paviṣṭa cetanaḥ priyaḥ kavīnāṃ matī |
10 Indu, Enlightener, Friend, hath been purified by the sages' hymns:
9.64.20
सर्जदश्वं रथीरिव ||
sṛjadaśvaṃ rathīriva ||
So starts the charioteer his steed-
9.64.21
ऊर्मिर्यस्ते पवित्र आ देवावीः पर्यक्षरत |
ūrmiryaste pavitra ā devāvīḥ paryakṣarat |
11 Thy God-delighting wave which hath flowed to purifying seive,
9.64.22
सीदन्न्र्तस्य योनिमा ||
sīdannṛtasya yonimā ||
Alighting in the home of Law.
9.64.23
स नो अर्ष पवित्र आ मदो यो देववीतमः |
sa no arṣa pavitra ā mado yo devavītamaḥ |
12 Flow to our sieve, a gladdening draught that hath most intercourse with Gods,
9.64.24
इन्दविन्द्रायपीतये ||
indavindrāyapītaye ||
Indu, to Indra for his drink.
9.64.25
इषे पवस्व धारया मर्ज्यमानो मनीषिभिः |
iṣe pavasva dhārayā mṛjyamāno manīṣibhiḥ |
13 Flow onward with a stream for food, made beautiful by sapient men:
9.64.26
इन्दो रुचाभिगा इहि ||
indo rucābhighā ihi ||
Indu with sheen approach the milk.
9.64.27
पुनानो वरिवस कर्ध्यूर्जं जनाय गिर्वणः |
punāno varivas kṛdhyūrjaṃ janāya ghirvaṇaḥ |
14 While thou art cleansed, Song-Lover, bring comfort and vigour to the folk,
9.64.28
हरे सर्जानाशिरम ||
hare sṛjānaāśiram ||
Poured, Tawny One! on milk and curds.
9.64.29
पुनानो देववीतय इन्द्रस्य याहि निष्क्र्तम |
punāno devavītaya indrasya yāhi niṣkṛtam |
15 Purified for the feast of Gods, go thou to Indra's special place,
9.64.30
दयुतानो वाजिभिर्यतः ||
dyutāno vājibhiryataḥ ||
Resplendent, guided by the strong.
9.64.31
पर हिन्वानास इन्दवो.अछा समुद्रमाशवः |
pra hinvānāsa indavo.achā samudramāśavaḥ |
16 Accelerated by the hymn, the rapid drops of Soma juice
9.64.32
धिया जूता अस्र्क्षत ||
dhiyā jūtā asṛkṣata ||
Have flowed, urged onward, to the lake.
9.64.33
मर्म्र्जानास आयवो वर्था समुद्रमिन्दवः |
marmṛjānāsa āyavo vṛthā samudramindavaḥ |
17 Easily have the living drops, made beautiful, approached the lake,
9.64.34
अग्मन्न्र्तस्य योनिमा ||
aghmannṛtasya yonimā ||
Yea, to the place of sacrifice.
9.64.35
परि णो याह्यस्मयुर्विश्वा वसून्योजसा |
pari ṇo yāhyasmayurviśvā vasūnyojasā |
18 Compass about, our faithful Friend, all our possessions with thy might:
9.64.36
पाहि नः शर्म वीरवत ||
pāhi naḥ śarma vīravat ||
Guard, hero like, our sheltering home.
9.64.37
मिमाति वह्निरेतशः पदं युजान रक्वभिः |
mimāti vahniretaśaḥ padaṃ yujāna ṛkvabhiḥ |
19 Loud neighs the Courser Etaśa, with singers, harnessed for the place,
9.64.38
पर यत समुद्र आहितः ||
pra yat samudra āhitaḥ ||
Guided for travel to the lake.
9.64.39
आ यद योनिं हिरण्ययमाशुरतस्य सीदति |
ā yad yoniṃ hiraṇyayamāśurtasya sīdati |
20 What time the Swift One resteth in the golden place of sacrifice,
9.64.40
जहात्यप्रचेतसः ||
jahātyapracetasaḥ ||
He leaves the foolish far away.
9.64.41
अभि वेना अनूषतेयक्षन्ति परचेतसः |
abhi venā anūṣateyakṣanti pracetasaḥ |
21 The friends have sung in unison, the prudent wish to sacrifice:
9.64.42
मज्जन्त्यविचेतसः ||
majjantyavicetasaḥ ||
Down sink the unintelligent.
9.64.43
इन्द्रायेन्दो मरुत्वते पवस्व मधुमत्तमः |
indrāyendo marutvate pavasva madhumattamaḥ |
22 For Indra girt by Maruts, flow, thou Indu, very rich in sweets,
9.64.44
रतस्य योनिमासदम ||
ṛtasya yonimāsadam ||
To sit in place of sacrifice.
9.64.45
तं तवा विप्रा वचोविदः परिष कर्ण्वन्ति वेधसः |
taṃ tvā viprā vacovidaḥ pariṣ kṛṇvanti vedhasaḥ |
23 Controlling priests and sages skilled in holy song adorn thee well:
9.64.46
सं तवा मर्जन्त्यायवः ||
saṃ tvā mṛjantyāyavaḥ ||
The living make thee beautiful.
9.64.47
रसं ते मित्रो अर्यमा पिबन्ति वरुनः कवे |
rasaṃ te mitro aryamā pibanti varunaḥ kave |
24 Aryaman, Mitra, Varuṇa drink Pavamana's juice, yea, thine:
9.64.48
पवमानस्य मरुतः ||
pavamānasya marutaḥ ||
O Sage, the Maruts drink thereof.
9.64.49
तवं सोम विपश्चितं पुनानो वाचमिष्यसि |
tvaṃ soma vipaścitaṃ punāno vācamiṣyasi |
25 O Soma, Indu, thou while thou art purified urgest onward speech.
9.64.50
इन्दो सहस्रभर्णसम ||
indo sahasrabharṇasam ||
Thousandfold, with the lore of hymns.
9.64.51
उतो सहस्रभर्णसं वाचं सोम मखस्युवम |
uto sahasrabharṇasaṃ vācaṃ soma makhasyuvam |
26 Yea, Soma, Indu, while thou art purified do thou bring to us
9.64.52
पुनान इन्दवा भर ||
punāna indavā bhara ||
Speech thousandfold that longs for war.
9.64.53
पुनान इन्दवेषां पुरुहूत जनानाम |
punāna indaveṣāṃ puruhūta janānām |
27 O Indu, Much-invoked, while thou art purifying, as the Friend.
9.64.54
परियः समुद्रमा विश ||
priyaḥ samudramā viśa ||
Of these men enter thou the lake.
9.64.55
दविद्युतत्या रुचा परिष्टोभन्त्या कर्पा |
davidyutatyā rucā pariṣṭobhantyā kṛpā |
28 Bright are these Somas blent with milk, with light that flashes brilliantly. And form that utters loud acclaim.
9.64.56
सोमाः शुक्रा गवाशिरः ||
somāḥ śukrā ghavāśiraḥ ||
29 Led by his drivers, and sent forth, the Strong Steed hath come nigh for spoil,
9.64.57
हिन्वानो हेत्र्भिर्यत आ वाजं वाज्यक्रमीत |
hinvāno hetṛbhiryata ā vājaṃ vājyakramīt |
Like warriors when they stand arrayed.
9.64.58
सीदन्तो वनुषो यथा ||
sīdanto vanuṣo yathā ||
30 Specially, Soma, coming as a Sage from heaven to prosper us,
9.64.59
रधक सोम सवस्तये संजग्मानो दिवः कविः |
ṛdhak soma svastaye saṃjaghmāno divaḥ kaviḥ |
Flow like the Sun for us to see.
