9.65.1
हिन्वन्ति सूरमुस्रयः सवसारो जामयस पतिम |
hinvanti sūramusrayaḥ svasāro jāmayas patim |
1. THE, glittering maids send Sūra forth, the glorious sisters, close-allied,
9.65.2
महामिन्दुं महीयुवः ||
mahāminduṃ mahīyuvaḥ ||
Send Indu forth, their mighty Lord.
9.65.3
पवमान रुचा-रुचा देवो देवेभ्यस परि |
pavamāna rucā-rucā devo devebhyas pari |
2 Pervade, O Pavamana, all our treasures with repeated light,
9.65.4
विश्वा वसून्याविश ||
viśvā vasūnyāviśa ||
God, coming hither from the Gods.
9.65.5
आ पवमान सुष्टुतिं वर्ष्टिं देवेभ्यो दुवः |
ā pavamāna suṣṭutiṃ vṛṣṭiṃ devebhyo duvaḥ |
3 Pour on us, Pavamana, rain, as service and rain praise for Gods:
9.65.6
इषे पवस्व संयतम ||
iṣe pavasva saṃyatam ||
Pour all to be our nourishment.
9.65.7
वर्षा हयसि भानुना दयुमन्तं तवा हवामहे |
vṛṣā hyasi bhānunā dyumantaṃ tvā havāmahe |
4 Thou art a Steer by lustre: we, O Pavamana, faithfully
9.65.8
पवमान सवाध्यः ||
pavamāna svādhyaḥ ||
Call upon thee the Splendid One.
9.65.9
आ पवस्व सुवीर्यं मन्दमानः सवायुध |
ā pavasva suvīryaṃ mandamānaḥ svāyudha |
5 Do thou, rejoicing, nobly-armed! pour upon us heroic strength:
9.65.10
इहो षविन्दवा गहि ||
iho ṣvindavā ghahi ||
O Indu, come thou bitherward.
9.65.11
यदद्भिः परिषिच्यसे मर्ज्यमानो गभस्त्योः |
yadadbhiḥ pariṣicyase mṛjyamāno ghabhastyoḥ |
6 When thou art cleansed with both the hands and dipped in waters, with the wood.
9.65.12
दरुणा सधस्थमश्नुषे ||
druṇā sadhasthamaśnuṣe ||
Thou comest to the gathering-place.
9.65.13
पर सोमाय वयश्ववत पवमानाय गायत |
pra somāya vyaśvavat pavamānāya ghāyata |
7 Sing forth your songs, as Vyaśva sang, to Soma Pavamana, to,

महे सहस्रचक्षसे ||
mahe sahasracakṣase ||
The Mighty One with thousand eyes;
9.65.15
यस्य वर्णं मधुश्चुतं हरिं हिन्वन्त्यद्रिभिः |
yasya varṇaṃ madhuścutaṃ hariṃ hinvantyadribhiḥ |
8 Whose coloured sap they drive with stones, the yellow meath-distilling juice,
9.65.16
इन्दुमिन्द्राय पीतये ||
indumindrāya pītaye ||
Indu for Indra, for his drink.
9.65.17
तस्य ते वाजिनो वयं विश्वा धनानि जिग्युषः |
tasya te vājino vayaṃ viśvā dhanāni jighyuṣaḥ |
9 We seek to gain the friendly love of thee that Strong and Mighty One,
9.65.18
सखित्वमा वर्णीमहे ||
sakhitvamā vṛṇīmahe ||
Of thee the winner of all wealth.
9.65.19
वर्षा पवस्व धारया मरुत्वते च मत्सरः |
vṛṣā pavasva dhārayā marutvate ca matsaraḥ |
10 Flow onward with thy stream, a Steer, inspiriting the Maruts’ Lord,
9.65.20
विश्वा दधान ओजसा ||
viśvā dadhāna ojasā ||
Winning all riches by thy might.
9.65.21
तं तवा धर्तारमोण्योः पवमान सवर्द्र्शम |
taṃ tvā dhartāramoṇyoḥ pavamāna svardṛśam |
11 I send thee forth to battle from the press, O Pavamana, Strong,
9.65.22
हिन्वे वाजेषु वाजिनम ||
hinve vājeṣu vājinam ||
Sustainer, looker on the light.
9.65.23
अया चित्तो विपानया हरिः पवस्व धारया |
ayā citto vipānayā hariḥ pavasva dhārayā |
12 Acknowledged by this song of mine, flow, tawny-coloured, with thy stream
9.65.24
युजं वाजेषु चोदय ||
yujaṃ vājeṣu codaya ||
Incite to battle thine ally.
9.65.25
आ न इन्दो महीमिषं पवस्व विश्वदर्शतः |
ā na indo mahīmiṣaṃ pavasva viśvadarśataḥ |
13 O Indu, visible to all pour out for us abundant food:
9.65.26
अस्मभ्यं सोम गातुवित ||
asmabhyaṃ soma ghātuvit ||
Soma, be thou our prosperer.
9.65.27
आ कलशा अनूषतेन्दो धाराभिरोजसा |
ā kalaśā anūṣatendo dhārābhirojasā |
14 The pitchers, Indu, with thy streams have sung aloud in vigorous might
9.65.28
एन्द्रस्य पीतयेविश ||
endrasya pītayeviśa ||
Enter them, and let Indra drink.
9.65.29
यस्य ते मद्यं रसं तीव्रं दुहन्त्यद्रिभिः |
yasya te madyaṃ rasaṃ tīvraṃ duhantyadribhiḥ |
15 O thou whose potent gladdening juice they milk out with the stones, flow on,
9.65.30
स पवस्वाभिमातिहा ||
sa pavasvābhimātihā ||
Destroyer of our enemies.
9.65.31
राजा मेधाभिरीयते पवमानो मनावधि |
rājā medhābhirīyate pavamāno manāvadhi |
16 King Pavamana is implored with holy songs, on man's behalf,
9.65.32
अन्तरिक्षेण यातवे ||
antarikṣeṇa yātave ||
To travel through the firmament.
9.65.33
आ न इन्दो शतग्विनं गवां पोषं सवश्व्यम |
ā na indo śataghvinaṃ ghavāṃ poṣaṃ svaśvyam |
17 Bring us, O Indu, hundredfold increase of kine, and noble steeds,
9.65.34
वहा भगत्तिमूतये ||
vahā bhaghattimūtaye ||
The gift of fortune for our help.
9.65.35
आ नः सोम सहो जुवो रूपं न वर्चसे भर |
ā naḥ soma saho juvo rūpaṃ na varcase bhara |
18 Pressed for the banquet of the Gods, O Soma, bring us might, and speed,
9.65.36
सुष्वाणो देववीतये ||
suṣvāṇo devavītaye ||
Like beauty for a brilliant show.
9.65.37
अर्षा सोम दयुमत्तमो.अभि दरोणानि रोरुवत |
arṣā soma dyumattamo.abhi droṇāni roruvat |
19 Soma, flow on exceeding bright with loud roar to the wooden vats,
9.65.38
सीदञ्छ्येनोन योनिमा ||
sīdañchyenona yonimā ||
Falcon-like resting in thine home.
9.65.39
अप्सा इन्द्राय वायवे वरुणाय मरुद्भ्यः |
apsā indrāya vāyave varuṇāya marudbhyaḥ |
20 Soma, the Water-winner flows to Indra, Vāyu, Varuṇa,
9.65.40
सोमो अर्षति विष्णवे ||
somo arṣati viṣṇave ||
To Viṣṇu and the Marut host.
9.65.41
इषं तोकाय नो दधदस्मभ्यं सोम विश्वतः |
iṣaṃ tokāya no dadhadasmabhyaṃ soma viśvataḥ |
21 Soma , bestowing food upon our progeny, from every sides,
9.65.42
आ पवस्वसहस्रिणम ||
ā pavasvasahasriṇam ||
Pour on us riches thousandfold
9.65.43
ये सोमासः परावति ये अर्वावति सुन्विरे |
ye somāsaḥ parāvati ye arvāvati sunvire |
22 The Soma juices which have been expressed afar or near at hand,
9.65.44
ये वादः शर्यणावति ||
ye vādaḥ śaryaṇāvati ||
Or there on Śaryaṇāvān's bank,
9.65.45
य आर्जीकेषु कर्त्वसु ये मध्ये पस्त्यानाम |
ya ārjīkeṣu kṛtvasu ye madhye pastyānām |
23 Those pressed among Arjikas, pressed among the active, in men's homes,
9.65.46
ये वा जनेषुपञ्चसु ||
ye vā janeṣupañcasu ||
Or pressed among the Races Five-
9.65.47
ते नो वर्ष्टिं दिवस परि पवन्तामा सुवीर्यम |
te no vṛṣṭiṃ divas pari pavantāmā suvīryam |
24 May these celestial drops, expressed, pour forth upon us, as they flow,
9.65.48
सुवाना देवास इन्दवः ||
suvānā devāsa indavaḥ ||
Rain from the heavens apd hero strength.
9.65.49
पवते हर्यतो हरिर्ग्र्णानो जमदग्निना |
pavate haryato harirghṛṇāno jamadaghninā |
25 Urged forward o’er the ox-hide flows the Lovely One of tawny hue,
9.65.50
हिन्वानो गोरधित्वचि ||
hinvāno ghoradhitvaci ||
Lauded by Jamadagni's song.
9.65.51
पर शुक्रासो वयोजुवो हिन्वानासो न सप्तयः |
pra śukrāso vayojuvo hinvānāso na saptayaḥ |
26 Like horses urged to speed, the drops, bright, stirring vital power, when blent
9.65.52
शरीणानाप्सु मर्ञ्जत ||
śrīṇānāapsu mṛñjata ||
With milk, are beautified in streams.
9.65.53
तं तवा सुतेष्वाभुवो हिन्विरे देवतातये |
taṃ tvā suteṣvābhuvo hinvire devatātaye |
27 So they who toil with juices send thee forward for the Gods’ repast:
9.65.54
स पवस्वानया रुचा ||
sa pavasvānayā rucā ||
So with this splendour flow thou on.
9.65.55
आ ते दक्षं मयोभुवं वह्निमद्या वर्णीमहे |
ā te dakṣaṃ mayobhuvaṃ vahnimadyā vṛṇīmahe |
28 We choose to-day that chariot-steed of thine, the Strong, that brings us bliss,
9.65.56
पान्तमापुरुस्प्र्हम ||
pāntamāpuruspṛham ||
The Guardian, the desire of all,
9.65.57
आ मन्द्रमा वरेण्यमा विप्रमा मनीषिणम |
ā mandramā vareṇyamā vipramā manīṣiṇam |
29 The Excellent, the Gladdener, the Sage with heart that understands,
9.65.58
पान्तमा पुरुस्प्र्हम ||
pāntamā puruspṛham ||
The Guardian, the desire of all;
9.65.59
आ रयिमा सुचेतुनमा सुक्रतो तनूष्वा |
ā rayimā sucetunamā sukrato tanūṣvā |
30 Who for ourselves, O thou Most Wise, is wealth and fair intelligence,
9.65.60
पान्तमा पुरुस्प्र्हम ||
pāntamā puruspṛham ||
