9.69.1
इषुर्न धन्वन परति धीयते मतिर्वत्सो न मातुरुप सर्ज्यूधनि |
iṣurna dhanvan prati dhīyate matirvatso na māturupa sarjyūdhani |
1. LAID like an arrow on the bow the hymn hath been loosed like a young calf to the udder of its dam.
9.69.2
उरुधारेव दुहे अग्र आयत्यस्य वरतेष्वपि सोम इष्यते ||
urudhāreva duhe aghra āyatyasya vrateṣvapi soma iṣyate ||
As one who cometh first with full stream she is milked the Soma is impelled to this man's holy rites.
9.69.3
उपो मतिः पर्च्यते सिच्यते मधु मन्द्राजनी चोदते अन्तरासनि |
upo matiḥ pṛcyate sicyate madhu mandrājanī codate antarāsani |
2 The thought is deeply fixed; the savoury juice is shed; the tongue with joyous sound is stirring in the mouth;
9.69.4
पवमानः सन्तनिः परघ्नतामिव मधुमान दरप्सः परि वारमर्षति ||
pavamānaḥ santaniḥ praghnatāmiva madhumān drapsaḥ pari vāramarṣati ||
And Pavamana, like the shout of combatants, the drop rising in sweet juice, is flowing through the fleece.
9.69.5
अव्ये वधूयुः पवते परि तवचि शरथ्नीते नप्तीरदितेरतं यते |
avye vadhūyuḥ pavate pari tvaci śrathnīte naptīraditertaṃ yate |
3 He flows about the sheep-skin, longing for a bride: he looses Aditi's Daughters for the worshipper.
9.69.6
हरिरक्रान यजतः संयतो मदो नर्म्णा शिशानो महिषो न शोभते ||
harirakrān yajataḥ saṃyato mado nṛmṇā śiśāno mahiṣo na śobhate ||
The sacred drink hath come, gold-tinted, well-restrained: like a strong Bull he shines, whetting his manly might.
9.69.7
उक्षा मिमाति परति यन्ति धेनवो देवस्य देवीरुप यन्ति निष्क्र्तम |
ukṣā mimāti prati yanti dhenavo devasya devīrupa yanti niṣkṛtam |
4 The Bull is bellowing; the Cows are coming nigh: the Goddesses approach the God's own resting-place.
9.69.8
अत्यक्रमीदर्जुनं वारमव्ययमत्कं न निक्तम्परि सोमो अव्यत ||
atyakramīdarjunaṃ vāramavyayamatkaṃ na niktampari somo avyata ||
Onward hath Soma passed through the sheep's fair bright fleece, and hath, as ’twere, endued a garment newly washed.
9.69.9
अम्र्क्तेन रुशता वाससा हरिरमर्त्यो निर्णिजानः परि वयत |
amṛktena ruśatā vāsasā hariramartyo nirṇijānaḥ pari vyata |
5 The golden-hued, Immortal, newly bathed, puts on a brightly shining vesture that is never harmed.
9.69.10
दिवस पर्ष्ठं बर्हणा निर्णिजे कर्तोपस्तरणं चम्वोर्नभस्मयम ||
divas pṛṣṭhaṃ barhaṇā nirṇije kṛtopastaraṇaṃ camvornabhasmayam ||
He made the ridge of heaven to be his radiant robe, by sprinkling of the bowls from moisture of the sky.
9.69.11
सूर्यस्येव रश्मयो दरावयित्नवो मत्सरासः परसुपः साकमीरते |
sūryasyeva raśmayo drāvayitnavo matsarāsaḥ prasupaḥ sākamīrate |
6 Even as the beams of Sūrya, urging men to speed, that cheer and send to sleep, together rush they forth,
9.69.12
तन्तुं ततं परि सर्गास आशवो नेन्द्राद रते पवते धाम किं चन ||
tantuṃ tataṃ pari sarghāsa āśavo nendrād ṛte pavate dhāma kiṃ cana ||
These swift outpourings in long course of holy rites: no form save only Indra shows itself so pure.
9.69.13
सिन्धोरिव परवणे निम्न आशवो वर्षच्युता मदासो गातुमाशत |
sindhoriva pravaṇe nimna āśavo vṛṣacyutā madāso ghātumāśata |
7 As down the steep slope of a river to the vale, drawn from the Steer the swift strong draughts have found a way.
9.69.14
शं नो निवेशे दविपदे चतुष्पदे.अस्मे वाजः सोम तिष्ठन्तु कर्ष्टयः ||
śaṃ no niveśe dvipade catuṣpade.asme vājaḥ soma tiṣṭhantu kṛṣṭayaḥ ||
Well be it with the men and cattle in our home. May powers, O Soma, may the people stay with us.
9.69.15
आ नः पवस्व वसुमद धिरण्यवदश्वावद गोमद यवमत सुवीर्यम |
ā naḥ pavasva vasumad dhiraṇyavadaśvāvad ghomad yavamat suvīryam |
8 Pour out upon us wealth in goods, in gold, in steeds, in cattle and in corn, and great heroic strength.
9.69.16
यूयं हि सोम पितरो मम सथन दिवो मूर्धानःप्रस्थिता वयस्क्र्तः ||
yūyaṃ hi soma pitaro mama sthana divo mūrdhānaḥprasthitā vayaskṛtaḥ ||
Ye, Soma, are my Fathers, lifted up on high as heads of heaven and makers of the strength of life.
9.69.17
एते सोमाः पवमानास इन्द्रं रथा इव पर ययुः सातिमछ |
ete somāḥ pavamānāsa indraṃ rathā iva pra yayuḥ sātimacha |
9 These Pavamanas here, these drops of Soma, to Indra have sped forth like cars to booty.
9.69.18
सुताः पवित्रमति यन्त्यव्यं हित्वी वव्रिं हरितोव्र्ष्तिमछ ||
sutāḥ pavitramati yantyavyaṃ hitvī vavriṃ haritovṛṣtimacha ||
Effused, they pass the cleansing fleece, while, gold-hued, they cast their covering off to pour the rain down.
9.69.19
इन्दविन्द्राय बर्हते पवस्व सुम्र्ळीको अनवद्यो रिशादाः |
indavindrāya bṛhate pavasva sumṛḷīko anavadyo riśādāḥ |
10 O Indu, flow thou on for lofty Indra, flow blameless, very gracious, foe-destroyer.
9.69.20
भरा चन्द्राणि गर्णते वसूनि देवैर्द्यावाप्र्थिवी परावतं नः ||
bharā candrāṇi ghṛṇate vasūni devairdyāvāpṛthivī prāvataṃ naḥ ||
Bring splendid treasures to the man who lauds thee. O Heaven and Earth, with all the Gods protect. us.
