9.98.1
अभि नो वाजसातमं रयिमर्ष पुरुस्प्र्हम |
abhi no vājasātamaṃ rayimarṣa puruspṛham |
1. STREAM on us riches that are sought by many, best at winning strength
9.98.2
इन्दो सहस्रभर्णसं तुविद्युम्नं विभ्वासहम ||
indo sahasrabharṇasaṃ tuvidyumnaṃ vibhvāsaham ||
Riches, O Indu, thousandfold, glorious, conquering the great.
9.98.3
परि षय सुवानो अव्ययं रथे न वर्माव्यत |
pari ṣya suvāno avyayaṃ rathe na varmāvyata |
2 Effused, he hath, as on a car, invested him in fleecy mail:
9.98.4
इन्दुरभिद्रुणा हितो हियानो धाराभिरक्षाः ||
indurabhidruṇā hito hiyāno dhārābhirakṣāḥ ||
Onward hath Indu flowed in streams, impelled, surrounded by the wood.
9.98.5
परि षय सुवानो अक्षा इन्दुरव्ये मदच्युतः |
pari ṣya suvāno akṣā induravye madacyutaḥ |
3 Effused, this Indu hath flowed on, distilling rapture, to the fleece:
9.98.6
धारा य ऊर्ध्वो अध्वरे भराजा नैति गव्ययुः ||
dhārā ya ūrdhvo adhvare bhrājā naiti ghavyayuḥ ||
He goes erect, as seeking kine in stream, with light, to sacrifice.
9.98.7
स हि तवं देव शश्वते वसु मर्ताय दाशुषे |
sa hi tvaṃ deva śaśvate vasu martāya dāśuṣe |
4 For thou thyself, O Indu, God, to every mortal worshipper
9.98.8
इन्दो सहस्रिणं रयिं शतात्मानं विवाससि ||
indo sahasriṇaṃ rayiṃ śatātmānaṃ vivāsasi ||
Attractest riches thousandfold, made manifest in hundred forms.
9.98.9
वयं ते अस्य वर्त्रहन वसो वस्वः पुरुस्प्र्हः |
vayaṃ te asya vṛtrahan vaso vasvaḥ puruspṛhaḥ |
5 Good Vṛtra-slayer, may we be still nearest to this wealth of thine
9.98.10
नि नेदिष्ठतमा इषः सयाम सुम्नस्याध्रिगो ||
ni nediṣṭhatamā iṣaḥ syāma sumnasyādhrigho ||
Which many crave, nearest to food and happiness, Resistless One!
9.98.11
दविर्यं पञ्च सवयशसं सवसारो अद्रिसंहतम |
dviryaṃ pañca svayaśasaṃ svasāro adrisaṃhatam |
6 Whom, bright with native splendour, crushed between the pair of pressingstones-
9.98.12
परियमिन्द्रस्य काम्यं परस्नापयन्त्यूर्मिणम ||
priyamindrasya kāmyaṃ prasnāpayantyūrmiṇam ||
The wavy Friend whom Indra loves-the twice-five sisters dip and bathe,
9.98.13
परि तयं हर्यतं हरिं बभ्रुं पुनन्ति वारेण |
pari tyaṃ haryataṃ hariṃ babhruṃ punanti vāreṇa |
7 Him with the fleece they purify, brown, golden-hued, beloved of all,
9.98.14
यो देवान विश्वानित परि मदेन सह गछति ||
yo devān viśvānit pari madena saha ghachati ||
Who with exhilarating juice goes forth to all the Deities.
9.98.15
अस्य वो हयवसा पान्तो दक्षसाधनम |
asya vo hyavasā pānto dakṣasādhanam |
8 Through longing for this sap of yours ye drink what brings ability,
9.98.16
यः सूरिषु शरवोब्र्हद दधे सवर्ण हर्यतः ||
yaḥ sūriṣu śravobṛhad dadhe svarṇa haryataḥ ||
Even him who, dear as heaven's own light, gives to our princes high renown.
9.98.17
स वां यज्ञेषु मानवी इन्दुर्जनिष्ट रोदसी |
sa vāṃ yajñeṣu mānavī indurjaniṣṭa rodasī |
9 Indu at holy rites produced you, Heaven and Earth, the Friends of men,
9.98.18
देवो देवी गिरिष्ठा अस्रेधन तं तुविष्वणि ||
devo devī ghiriṣṭhā asredhan taṃ tuviṣvaṇi ||
Hill-haunting God the Goddesses. They bruised him where the roar was loud.
9.98.19
इन्द्राय सोम पातवे वर्त्रघ्ने परि षिच्यसे |
indrāya soma pātave vṛtraghne pari ṣicyase |
10 For Vṛtra-slaying Indra, thou, Soma, art poured that he may drink,
9.98.20
नरे च दक्षिणावते देवाय सदनासदे ||
nare ca dakṣiṇāvate devāya sadanāsade ||
Poured for the guerdon-giving man, poured for the God who sitteth there.
9.98.21
ते परत्नासो वयुष्टिषु सोमाः पवित्रे अक्षरन |
te pratnāso vyuṣṭiṣu somāḥ pavitre akṣaran |
11 These ancient Somas, at the break of day, have flowed into the sieve,
9.98.22
अपप्रोथन्तः सनुतर्हुरश्चितः परातस्तानप्रचेतसः ||
apaprothantaḥ sanutarhuraścitaḥ prātastānapracetasaḥ ||
Snorting away at early morn these foolish evil-hearted ones.
9.98.23
तं सखायः पुरोरुचं यूयं वयं च सूरयः |
taṃ sakhāyaḥ purorucaṃ yūyaṃ vayaṃ ca sūrayaḥ |
12 Friends, may the princes, ye and we, obtain this Most Resplendent One.
9.98.24
अश्याम वाजगन्ध्यं सनेम वाजपस्त्यम ||
aśyāma vājaghandhyaṃ sanema vājapastyam ||
Gain him who hath the smell of strength, win him whose home is very strength.
